Get /comfy/ folks, nostalgia thread is a go.

>that ONE movie/game you wanted to rent so bad but was always checked out
What was her name?
>that ONE movie/game they had like 20 copies of but no one ever rented
What was her name?
>that ONE movie game you rented so many times you might has well have actually have gone out and bought
What was her name?

>he didn't have a membership card

Hardly went to Blockbuster but ironically the spot back then that was a small time movie/game rental place that we did go to today is a small time retro/modern gaming store with some other geek stuff like comics and shit so basically a better version of gamestop. Life has a way of coming full circle.

>tfw being a little kid and getting scared when walking through the scary movie section because of all the scary faces on the cover
Who /pussy/ here

They had a lifesize standee of the Mask and i shat my little pantaloons

>be a gangsta
>never rewind my DVDs

mein nigger

That one holographic one on Jack Frost or whatever it was called.

Spooped.

Oh fuck, that Jack Frost cover terrified me as a kid. I thought I was the only one. It look so cheap but it still scared me shitless.

>tfw scarred for years from seeing the Japanese horror covers

my hollywood video had a wall covering poster of this
very creepy smile

Amazing soundtrack

-hey user, what do you want to rent tonight?

>VHS

Kids please

The cover is actually scarier than the movie.

This

Barely rented games but I remember this one time trying to rent Lego Star Wars on ps2 but couldn't because we were trying to use a coke bottlecap but they didn't accept it for some retarded reason. Kinda turned us off of renting games. Did get a copy of Ratchet and Clank 2 free as a first rental because I moved in with my aunt as a kid.

Grocery store was literally right behind it so no snacks and they were a ripoff.

Last time I went in a blockbuster I picked up Kotor 2 on Xbox as it was closing down.

Still have yet to play it all the way through.

...

Gen X should kill themselves. You fuckers think Wayne's World is fun. You need to stop existing.

Get a look at this guy cam

Good times

>tfw you're 7 and you see the cover to The Grudge
>not shitting your pants every time

>dying days of blockbuster
>rent MGS4, persona 4, god of war 3 and final fantasy 13
>never return them because they shut down weeks later

lmao

>>rent MGS4,

So you rented a film and a couple of video games

nice

>Had Fright Night on video in the house somewhere
>Was terrified by the thought of some ominous vampire figure stretching across the sky
>Still remember the recurring nightmares like it was 'Nam

Fuck I can relate

>that ONE movie/game you wanted to rent so bad but was always checked out

Dam simpsons game on megadrive, being a kid plus a new simpsons game who wouldn't want to play it? Turns out the game was complete shit but anyway.

Megadrive and SNES renting where the golden years.

Not many people I know rented PS1 games since they could be copied for the same price as renting, including those pirate lists that got handed around your parents work to buy games for $5 a pop off.

By the time xbox and PS2 rolled around I could afford my own games with weekend work and researched titles a little more with the internet being a thing now.

I just watched original Grudge and that was some jap kino nigga. Not particularly horrifying but the atmosphere was on point and that cinematography was comfy as fuck.

Reminded me of Resident Evil games with those angles at times.

>Those early godawful huge PS1 & Sega Saturn cases

Jesus

For some reason I opened up all the DVD cases looking for a movie and thought if there was no CD in them they were out of stock. I spent like 30 minutes trying to find a movie lol

"please be kind rewind" ~luke 2:14

*rented a film, a visual novel, a series of QTEs, and a hallway simulator

FTFY

Just rewind the fucking tape, jerkoff.

Fuck off waynes world is great. I haven't watched it since the 90's but it's still hilarious.

>That unmistakable Blockbuster smell of moth balls and stale popcorn on a late night
>The rows upon rows of '90s and '00s era DVD's
>The small, comfy and carpeted interior
>Always ice cold, even on a hot day
>The QT behind the counter in the yellow/blue uniform with the flipped bob haircut

I want to go back.

WATCH IT

Prices were ripoffs in hindsight but god damn that atmosphere was the shit. Isn't there one or two left out there? I'd fucking bust a nut soon as I walked in for damn sure.

There are plenty of Blockbusters still open. My old one is still open and it's still pretty busy, but it doesn't have the same feel it did when I was a kid. It's super cheap, though. Blu-rays are only 1 dollar and something for 5 nights.

Dude I have to stop and say that Ive been thinking of this movie my entire life. I was a young child sneaking around the living room while my parents watched that and the scene where the castle freak bites a womens tit off because he's emulating what he saw other people doing but doesn't understand; that scene started thoughts and feelings in me for years to come. For my entire life I've remembered and thought about this occasionally but had no idea what it was or how to even begin looking for it. I can literally see the scene on the box seconds before it happens.
Thank you user.

Lucky nigga, my Blockbuster is basically vacant space always being advertised now. It was once a furniture store then became vacant again and the cycle will probably continue so on etc, etc.

Even the Publix that was there literally as long as I've lived here died in like a week or two then became a Food Depot because they didn't want to pay 20 years rent or some shit. I can't go around that area because I nostalgia too hard and feel awkward walking around it.

Local video renting place shut down and was used as storage for the adjacent Tesco for about 15 years. Next month it's reopening as a curry house. Really hoping it's a good one so I can have one within walking distance.

Old Blockbuster is now a charity shop.
It's right next to a McDonald's and a Chinese restaurant. If my parents were better off and didn't say no so often I'd have been such a fat child.

>tfw renting secretary by saying my friend had told me it was a good movie to my mom

i mean how was so i stupid to not know she knew i wanted it so i could jerk off to it?

I was a fat kid but I hit hard times and dropped 70 pounds and everyone now thinks I should gain weight again. My family pressured me as a kid calling me fat and always watching my diet, now it's fine because I lost weight to put it back on?

Sorry for blog but that bit about being fat just brought things up because I was underweight as a toddler and as I got to adolescence got fat then now.

As a cliche white man I hate my family.

...

Based. Way better than Blockbuster.

My nigga

>Publix
Florida?

>be /devilish/
>fast forward the Blu ray without even watching it and then return it the next day

Bullshit. I worked for a video store for half a decade and we'd never even comment when folks didn't rewind their tapes. We had 4 of those rewinding machines behind the counter just for those occasions.

As soon as this opened across the street from Blockbuster it got all my business. Much more lenient on late fees.

>Still have yet to play it all the way through.
There's something very sad about KOTOR II. It's quite a bittersweet game to play, and the significantly more mature tone of it over the first game really hammers that in. Fantastic game, though I too can rarely finish a playthrough of it.

Close, little north.

holy shit how old are you?

I haven't played 1 yet and only got through 2's intro.

>ywn own a Pioneer Laseractive.
>ywn rent a couple of films on laserdisc, and then also get to play your rented genesis and PC Engine games on the exactly same machine after you've finished watching them.

Life is cruel.

>I haven't played 1 yet and only got through 2's intro.

Play 1 first. You'd like 2 without playing 1, but 2 is significantly more enjoyable when you've played 1 first.

Might as well just get them on Steam nowadays anyhow, there's full mod support for them on there, not to mention numerous patches for HD settings and what not.

>not realizing that blockbuster was a mormon company that would edit out all the sex scenes from the movies they rented

T H E W A V E

Would but my pc is dead and my old og xbox is still working so one day I'll play through it and shit post during loading screens.

I'm more of a Battlefront 1&2/ Republic Commando guy and I'm working through my modern games backlog because I'm poor and account share with a friend.

>that feel when

youtube.com/watch?v=Pc_yHON1oiQ

>I'm working through my modern games backlog
I know that feel, user. Being poor while doing it as well.

Might want to also try softmodding your xbox. It has great emulation capabilities, if you care about that kind of thing, and it's second only to a Wii as a good emulationbox.

>parents would always take you to rogers instead because it was a better deal overall, but missed out on blockbuster's a+ environment

HOLY FFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUCK

Since I worked as a cashier at Blockbuster in the late 90's, I can tell you that their problem was that you're a fucking idiot cocksucker motherfucker

I found one of these the other day that was buried in the dirt and washed up by the rain

>that small hole in the wall rental place that smelled weird and had pornos in the open and the early days of ufc tapes where there were basically no rules and they beat each other half to death

good times

My blockbuster turned into a Tim Hortons
>browsing rows and rows of movies checking out which ones to torrent later.

I thought I was the only one desu

I don't know anything about soft modding and I've already got a pretty decent collection of og xbox games.

I'm having to use batteries on my Xbone because the whole wireless controller shit. Once I run out of batteries I'm back on my old consoles.

I know everyone hates phone posters so fuck me right.

Off topic but this was some Telltale kino and only game from them I like.

>>that ONE movie/game you wanted to rent so bad but was always checked out
Smackdown Here comes the pain or Simpsons hit and run

>that ONE movie/game they had like 20 copies of but no one ever rented
Any Ace Combat

>that ONE movie game you rented so many times you might has well have actually have gone out and bought
Shrek 2

rented phantasy star iv like twice a month. there were always 3 saves on it and none of us fucked with each others shit, in hindsight i dunno how that happened.
