I haven't really been watching many films lately, if I'm honest. Wanted to get to 300 watched by the end of the year. It's going to be a tough task to get there.

letterboxd.com/robtarded/

Last year I set the goal of watching a movie per day in 2016, need 6 more now.
TFW it's the first time I've set a long-term goal for myself that I'll be able to reach but it's a pointless goal to begin with.

letterboxd.com/machill54/list/2017-cult-movie-challenge/

Reminder to make your 2017 cult movie challenge list so you can join in the new year

I wish i could join you in your bed

we could spoon under the gaze of one of my Italian posters

You can do it!

mega plebs

>p-p-plebs!!!
>*doesn't post profile*

>blu-ray of Black Belly of Tarantula online
>no English subs
>English subs from existing DVD releases don't sync

god damned it!!!!

Rules Don't Apply was the first movie I ever walked out of

letterboxd.com/dontpokethebear/

Thanks man!

why did you log and rate it then

letterboxd.com/Spiral_Mountain/

i rate movies i walk out of if i feel convinced about what it is

haven't seen, but in what world does Lily Collins (and her eyebrows- unchanged!) make sense as someone living pre-1980, she's in that Fitzgerald amazon show too
kinda want to see it, would definitely have already seen it if there was another actress as the lead

this looks like twin peaks not 1940s

Hadn't even realised Warren Beatty was directing again

ha yeah that's pretty spot on.

In the Shadow of Women was pretty meh, as was Jealousy (the only other Garrel I've seen). the b&w cinematography is the biggest strength, and now that Jarmusch seems to shoot entirely in color it's nice to see someone carrying the torch. I'll get to Regular Lovers eventually.
Sherlock Jr. was as great the second time. a pretty good print was shown, despite the fact that the last three or four minutes were missing.
Magic Mike started out great but kind of turned to shit in the last act. the DRAMA was very out of place, and highlighted how underwritten the apprentice was...
...which Magic Mike XXL corrected by wholeheartedly embracing the fun aspects of the original. and its portrayal of male friendship and female liberation was refreshing and really well done. I absolutely loved it.

I really ought to see Woman in the Dunes asap. and A Woman Under the Influence, too. saw most of Cassavetes filmography at a much to early age. there's a 35mm screening of Faces coming up in town, so I'm excited about that.

I really, really want to see Satantango. How is it?

Everything can be made as 'pointless'

as far as I'm concerned it's the best film I've seen (thus the position in my favorites tab). but it's definitely best seen in cinema if you get the chance: had the opportunity to catch a 35mm screening of it and was blown away. when the film started I was already in desperate need of a bathroom, but I leaving my seat never once crossed my mind once it had started. (though I did get a toilet break at the intermission 2.5 hours in.)

>don't watch film
>rate it
classic embryo's way

>saw most of Cassavetes filmography at a much too early age
What do you mean by this?

dif user, but I'd say a lot of his films are more rewarding as you get older then just at like 16 (see the other anons who hate on ozu)

that so much of Cassavetes work is about concepts a 15 year old boy who's never been in a relationship or anything of the sort won't be able to grasp. I think you have to be at least somewhat mature to appreciate what Cassavetes does. same thing with Amour or any Rohmer film, for instance.

so what you are trying to say is, you don't believe it is possible to truly appreciate and understand film without ever having experienced love????

Seconded. Also not that user, but my opinion on so many movies has changed as I've gotten older.

It works both ways. I loved Tarantino, now I'm a little disillusioned. Love Streams wouldn't have the same effect on me as a teenager.

True, but it's no guarantee. Mental development does the magic for just a small percentage of the population.
>inb4 fedora

>All pre-release material is banned for the indeterminate future. I understand that this will upset many of you who are looking forward to screener season.
this is effin bs

I'm not on any of those sites, but like...hasn't every oscar etc movie premiered (even Silence) except I think Fences?

Also: is there any word on whether The Salesman is getting a us theater release/when it's going to be available in general?

And is Personal Shopper going to be out anywhere until March? Don't the French get it ahead of time like usual??

not "film" in general, but certain films, absolutely.

of course, exceptions undoubtedly exist, but films explicitly dealing with subject matters of aging etc will most likely play better to audiences with first hand experience of it. any subtleties in Cassavetes work will be difficult to pick up if you're very young.
but yes, I think identification is super important. this is drawing it to its furthest point, but I expect Noah Baumbach's films would play very shittily with people unable to identify with the privileged big-city-kid perspective.

this review strikes me as more than a little condescending

>tfw already seen The Salesman
feels good to be living in the greatest country in the world desu

based tsar telling it like it is

>tfw no gf

Monaco? Congrats!!

>tsar
>based

lmaoing rn

I wonder when the already too hyped and probably overrated Toni Erdmann will be out...

Hey I'm back did anyone miss me?

it's not overrated. saw it twice, will gladly see it a third time asap.

what review is this in reference to?

christmas in the us and uk, I think in the next week or two in ny/la

Daily reminder the ultra pleb cut-off is 33% and you need to watch more movies.

Hello anti-art retard. I bet you actually rate art.

Perfect example of why you really ought to read more before you attempt to scold others on art. The word you're looking for is "philistine", philistine?

I wanted to write a review without rating it, and for some reason thought I couldn't do that.

same, it fucking sucks

getting my screeners from rutracker then it looks like

in the mean time now I dont have to deal with films being in the top ten only realize there's nothing but fucking cams

letterboxd.com/machill54/

Keep thinking about nocturnal animals it really got under my skin one of my movies of the year for sure
Nearly went to see Eyes of my mother at LFF but didn't because I'd have had to wake up early, it was good but not great imo, I like the thought of it being this atmospheric macabre dream like one of the reviews says, it does give across that vibe, but like an actual dream it's just a bit of nonsense really

The Zoltan G Spencer films are pretty wild, a heck of a lot of boobies in them, the satanist more interesting when considered as a timepiece of that era and in context of the late 60s where things are still pretty tame, but a very early example of the occult as a backdrop for trash film. Must have been a revelation for the sexploitation industry when colour film became widely and cheaply available to use

Machill! Machill!! Machill!!!

I know I'm late to the party but yeah Edge of Tomorrow is surprisingly great.

Has a poster ever been so dick-lickingly willing to spurt up rudimentary statistics from his ragged damaged mouthhole for nothing but the emotional reactions & ensuing default-mode appreciation of the welfare-slave mods & mal-educated Sup Forumstard hordes?

Ugly waste of life Barneyfag knows what he's doing, and it's textbook autism. A person's cartoon choice is not autism. People exercising their last vestiges of primordial knowledge & evolutionarily-ingrained tendencies toward their favorite TV series is not degeneracy. It's what the fuck drives them. It's how they managed to create more original content than Barneyfag ever will and have the passion to move onto much better things.
"No more of that for you, Barneyfag! Instead of giving young minds an incubatory dreamworld to fascinate themselves with, instead of being the cohesion of self-awareness that used to keep all fandoms in tact, they're all degenerate cancer!"

Cut to years later, Barneyfag is over a standing desk at some godforsaken afterhour, sporting a pair of virtue-signaling relaxed-fit denim jeans, planning a thirtieth-birthday suicide, loathing the last bleak reason for being that he supplanted his real dreams for; whining about MLP all day on a weeaboo discussion board.

That's how your fuckbackwards social justice is served, Barneyfag.

You've been banned, Barney boy. You've been banned a thousand times over. When you repeat your bullshit on your inglorious road-to-nowhere vendetta, I hope you feel a twinge. just a little pin-prick at your heart, to remind you of what a shamelessly autistic dolt you are.

Is Little Big Man good?

I enjoyed LittleBigPlanet on Playstation

Thank you for your input, my guy. Much appreciated.

It was the peak of Kerry Washington's career so if you care about her then watch it I guess. It's absurd though.

This is the only funny exchange of dialogue in any of the recent threads.

You're welcome.

What's with the autistic embryo(s) obsessed with hating Synt? If they spent half as much time watching film as they do throwing autistic fits they would actually have taste
