I miss this so much

I miss this so much

IKTFB. Going to Blockbuster with my family to rent a movie or a game for the weekend is one of my favorite childhood memories.

...

bruh

god damnit i just got a feeling in my gut that was like a sharp pain mixed with warmth

what do you call those nostalgic cramping feelings anyway?

I used to work there. I don't miss it.

why were you such an asshole when i called and asked you to hold onto a copy of zoolander for me??

Blockbuster always felt cold and pleb

luckily I had a comfy local place that didn't feel like a pharmacy

grow up

yeah same i miss hard copies of everything in general. it's so much easier to just go all digital but i liked actually having something.

I saw one of these machines on ebay awhile back. It was going for like $1200 I think. Came with a roll of the stickers and a bunch of activation cards or something. The N64 cart inside, the Not For Resale Pokemon Snap is one of the rarest N64 games.

says the 14 year old

nigger im 37

I kind of do if only to get me to go outside again. I work from home and literally only leave my place to go for the occasional night run or take out the trash. Everything I need I order online. Been like this since 2011.

RIP in pieces ; _ ;

>telling people old enough to remember video rental stores to grow up

Don't you have school in the morning kid?

they closed around 5 years ago. you're not some old veteran who lived through a once on lifetime thing. grow up

you talk tough with the keyboard, i know itd be a different story belly to belly

go fuck

what kinda work

IKNTF.

>Blockbuster

Blockbuster is complete shit and them going out of business was one of the greatest moments in film history. They helped destroy Genre Kino.

That said - I'm so desperate I'd even settle for comfy Saturday night renting at Blockbuster at this point.

Like other anons always say in these threads - Friday night after sports training, or Saturday afternoon after sports, going with one or two of your friends and your dad to the local strip mall video store, browsing for like an hour, especially in the sections you can't really rent anything from, getting some 3 video deal (ONE OVERNIGHT AND TWO WEEKLY RELEASES!), getting some pizza or whatever on the way home, and then spending the whole night watching shitty 80's horror, sci-fi and action with breaks for arguing and talking about dumb shit and playing Mortal Kombat or Aladdin on the Sega was pretty much prime comfy.

we will never ever relive those days

EVER

Also going to actual dedicated arcades packed with everyone from your school and other schools.

I think they're still around, I've seen small ones at malls, but they seem kind of like bigger versions of what you used to find at cinemas bowling alleys, rather than the dirty basement places where kids would smoke and drink cask wine out the back.

Sehnsucht

You miss only having the most normie movies available for rent and then after 45 mins of browsing, the only movie in the store that you want to watch is already rented? And you also miss the movie theater prices on their snacks, drinks and candy?

recently bought one of these

i get drunk alot too

I would HEEM you kiddo

>i get drunk alot too

i laughed so hard at that, not sure why

It's because Blockbuster was to the movie business as McDonald's is to dining.

It fucking sucked. But for a lot of kids in the mid to late 90's it had become so dominant that they knew no other option.

The old mom and pop stores were god tier, and were what helped drive the explosion of of horror and action in the 80's that Blockbuster helped neuter.

>kiddo

you gonna teleport behind me with your katana too?

rating websites

>i get drunk alot too

:(

which company do you do this for? what kinda weekly earning do you get?

>i get drunk alot too

actual lol'd

Anyway, pic related, one thing that hasn't changed - They still seem to be 90% Asian.

>when your dad leaves in the games section and sneaks off to porn section

>Buying snacks, drinks, and candy at the video store

Nigga that's just plain stupid.

Then
>8:00pm fri night
>standing in line with 1 game and 1 movie
>get excited that dad let me pick out 1 of each
>maybe he will let me get snacks too

Now
>8:00 pm fri night
>stare at phone in pitch black room
>pictures of black dicks and little girls along with "what did they mean by this" and other gibberish litters the screen

Fuck..

Pic related was best because they always had DS and PSP games

It looks like an urban outfitters ad.

You could post this on tumblr and get mad likes yo

lionbridge
$18.54/hr

>tfw no more strip mall arcades and video stores

>tfw no more strip malls period

I welcome our new Delivery Drone Overlords and all, but it's still sad.

second sounds funner

damn ok, thanks so much for letting me know.

is the hiring process difficult? how soon could one work?

>what do you call those nostalgic cramping feelings anyway?

Lost youth

it was too expensive and the late fees were ridiculous you reddditors and your nostalgia

>i just got a feeling in my gut that was like a sharp pain mixed with warmth
Menstrual cramps

>go to Blockbuster
>mom lets you get one game and one snack
>only allowed to pick a snack from the fruit stand
why

There's probably someone posting on Sup Forums whose dad is in that photo.

it's still the same guys. just more convenient!

looking at the careers section now

whats the job title?

>in 10 years, there will be autists nostalgic for fucking redbox

application process is easy, hiring is difficult. you have to study a giant pdf form on how to do the work and then take several qualifying tests. work within a couple weeks if you pass everything. that was 6 years ago though so it could be different now. i literally haven't had to talk to someone except through email the entire time i've worked with them. /biz/ typically has threads on work from home opportunities, too.

Yea I went to blockbuster before finding the other place which was short lived before netflix killed it

Paying customers first asshole. Get your lazy ass off the phone and into the store.

look here
www.thesmartcrowd.com/about/workers/job-opportunities/

you are on your period user
shove a tampon up your dick

>tfw went to the video store as a kid with my dad
>accidentally walk into the adult video section

good memories

what did she mean by this?

then go to your local store

I work at a blockbuster in australia

we have a 3dollar discount on fridays boys, hit us up

>the old mom and pop stores were god tier

tfw I grew up across the street from a popular record and video store
tfw was a loner, so I would go there every night after school to get a movie
tfw they had an extensive collection of VHS, betamax and laserdisc
tfw they had an extensive collection of independent films
tfw I watched almost every important film by the time I was 15
tfw watched stuff like eraserhead, strangelove, breathless, tora tora tora, 2001, barry lyndon, french connection and countless indie films because of the 90s era CalArts student shop runners
tfw watching films like Akira and Ghost in the Shell in the mid to late 90s as a 12 year blowing my fucking mind before anyone knew about this shit
tfw they gave me a film education like none other because the guys knew I was enjoying what I watched and asked me what I thought every night after watching something
tfw I got a film degree because of them
tfw they went out of business a decade ago
tfw i miss them

Heh. Turn on some lights though, that's bad for your eyes

You forgot your Sup Forums arrows

>go there
>all the good movies already gone
>rent whatever shit you see

you didn't forget your digits.
nice.

>tfw no porn section

whats a 4chin arrow

Yes, nothing personal kid.

A backwards

HOW DO YOU BACKWARD

phenomenal gif I must say

So are there no more video rental stores in the states at all now? Or are they just very rare?

<

They still have Family Videos where I live, and I currently work at one. Planning to quit soon.

"Saudade"

>There's still a small Blockbuster near me
>Never see anyone in there
>Still in business though somehow

>box looks nice

>movie turns out shit everytime

it wasn't as good as nostalgia implies

>37
Holy shit I was born in late 98 lol
You've lived twice as long as me and you're shitposting on fucking Sup Forums

My favorite childhood movie is Avatar (2009), I loved it when I was 11

Gav

I've been pirating since early 2000s as a kid
Kinda defeated the purpose of going to Blockbuster pretty quickly

>those moments when you're driving somewhere not too familiar and you see an old derelict rental store that's still somehow operating

It's a weird feeling

>Sehnsucht

this

>he thinks he won't be here in 18 years
Yeah we all thought that. Get comfortable, it's a long ride

You meant Redditors

i'm 32

me and the older gent know the rules

There was one in my old neighborhood of San Fernando

Life is going to bitchslap you when you realize all those moments you were waiting for will never come.

As somebody who worked at Blockbuster this was the biggest cancer ever. Fuck you kids and your damn cartoons. Every fucking day some kid would have a meltdown and cause a scene because somebody else was using the damn thing.

muh nostalgia goggles

>she
Did you just assume it's gender?

>muh nothing that existed in the past can be better it is always nostalgia tricking youuuu!!!

You miss being a kid, there is LITERALLY no real benefit to doing this.

>derelict
>still operating

this

and the smell of the movies

>your mom will never take you to gamecrazy connected with hollywood video to get video games for your birthday ever again while also renting a movie to watch while eating your cake

>you will never rent porn DVDs and return them 45 minutes later after ripping them to 80 minute video CDs
>the cashier will never look at you like that again

I can see a Family Video from my window

I don't go

>you will never sneak up on the video drop off hole and scare the shit out of the cashier by slamming the VHS in the slot while he's on the wired telephone talking to his chick ever again

This. I had a cool local indie store that had a special section of staff recommendations that I discovered tons of cool movies from like Oldboy, Akira, Lost Highway. They had special sections for foreign flicks and anime and tons of sub-genres you don't find in a place like Blockbuster.

WHY DID/DO THEY MAKE SHELVES SO FUCKING LOW, WHAT ADULT CAN GET FROM THE BOTTOM SHELVES AT ALL

they store the casual flicks on the bottom

those customers are clearly plebs

Come to Italy, here in Florence we still have 2 open blockbuster
