It wasn't going to be him regardless, his party only has the one seat. He can do more by being a thorn in the EU parliament anyway.

And who's going to take care of the UK now?
Idk Brazil. But Nigel has already given them more than they could ask for. 20+ years of his life relentlessly campaigning in a den of hostile snakes. He deserves his rest; one man cannot shoulder the whole burden of FREEDOM alone.

Farage is not in Parliament.

Why does every country outside Britain treat Farage as a member of Parliament and that UKIP somehow has enough seats in Parliament to affect anything at all when UKIP only has one seat?

Maybe if Britain had enacted proportional voting system a few years ago, UKIP might have had 60 seats in Parliament.

Instead, Britain's weird ass voting only resulted in UKIP getting one seat and that seat doesn't even belong to Farage.

Why
Who wants to stay on the sinking ship that is British politics?

Gabriel Kelly
Gabriel Kelly

The left has been moaning about him leaving when the country is a best and I don't really understand why.

Farage has never been a career politician. He lead UKIP to get the UK out of the EU, not to lead what happens next. He believes that decision is up to the British people.

He wasn't even part of the official leave campaign. The conservatives put their own people as the official campaign because they were already bitter enough having to admit it was because of UKIP that we had the referendum in the first place.

And yeah, UKIP isn't even in government, except for their one MP, which happens to be on terrible terms with Farage and is probably gunning for the leadership to make his defection worthwhile.

So even if Farage stayed, he has no political position except for MEP, a position whose days are numbered.

Seriously what did they expect him to do? Stand around waving the Union Jack?

He's done his bit, and now after years of struggle, he's passing the torch. He's well within his rights to do that, and it's consistent with his character.

Matthew Stewart
Matthew Stewart

...because he put your country in a hugely compromising position and now doesn't want to help clean up the fucking mess he made. Same as David Cameron.

Seriously. I live in Canada, and it's like if we just immediately killed NAFTA without any plans on what to replace it with. Our economy would be in shambles, and our country would collapse. Kind of like what is going to happen to you guys.

Good luck morons.

He didnt get into politics in the pursuit of power, he never wanted to be prime minister. He got into politics to get britain out of the EU. Mission accomplished.... Farage never had the authority, and never wanted the authority to actually do anything post brexit, his goal was to get us out and he did it. Its down to the next government to see that through and get us the best possible arrangements with the rest of the world.

Maybe if Britain had enacted proportional voting system a few years ago, UKIP might have had 60 seats in Parliament.

Britain never had a vote on this. It was a vote on the system Australia has.

Are you serious? First past the post is what we both have in the UK and US. Proportional representation is exactly what is describes: the government is made up of the proportions the country voted for. If the UK had this, those 4 million votes for UKIP wouldn't have been wasted.

Caleb Lewis

You don't understand how the UK works. You don't just "become PM" by popular vote. Britain doesn't even vote for their Prime Minister directly.

Chase Young

Why can't they change it?
Because the ruling parties benefit greatly from the FPTP system. It's a winner take all competition where if you get around 35% of the popular vote you can totally own the government. This is what the Conservatives did in the last election.
It works great for only 2 parties but fucks over all other smaller ones.

The advantage, however, is total control for the outright winners.

I wouldnt call them lazy, i think its more a case of them reeling from an unexpected result and there being a lot of upheaval and chaos in gov right now. I think theres a very slim possibility of us not actually following through, it depends on who gets the leadership, its why we need to meme leadsom into the position. Should the government decide not to invoke article 50 I have a feeling that people willl be taking guy fawkes as inspiration.
I think its a regional thing, eg, every region votes on a party, and the party that wins in that region gets the seat in government, it maybe skews how the people are represented overall but its also fair in that a majority labour area will be represented by labour and so on. correct me if im wrong...or dont, im off to play stellaris for a bit.

I always wondered about this, if the crown decided they really werent happy with the way the gov was running things would the military be loyal to the crown or to the government.

I think its a regional thing, eg, every region votes on a party, and the party that wins in that region gets the seat in government
That is how it works for your MP, yes. The problem with the entire system is that it's First Past the Post so the winner can get only around 40% and then the other 60% have no representation at all.

This is what happened to UKIP. 4 million people voted for them, sure, but they were spread out around the country and only won outright in a single constituency.

im off to play stellaris for a bit.
Nice. I'm using mods to get the British Empire on that.
