Finally the full meaning to this dialogue has been revealed and it isn't just horrible dialogue as was led to believe: >An interview with costume designer Lindy Hemming revealed that a lot of footage was deleted, including scenes of him (Bane) being harassed by prisoners and training with the League of Shadows. This sequence would have included a more detailed explanation as to the nature of his injuries and how the mask works to subdue the pain.
This also makes sense of why CIA asks Bane that if he takes off his mask, will he die because due to the injuries that Bane was given by the prisoners he needs the mask to numb the pain and him taking it off will make him be in extreme pain.
But it's fucking obvious and you'd have to be a literal retard to not figure it out
Cooper Evans
But CIA says "Why does he wear the mask?" so he obviously has no idea what it's for.
Jayden Kelly
He has intel and reports but he doesn't know for sure.
Thomas Wright
It would be extremely painful for you even though you're a big guy BRAVO NOLAN
Sebastian Fisher
dubs
Jace Stewart
So if it would actually be painful for Bane, that means the next two lines do belong together and he is a big guy for CIA.
Henry Martin
This I understood it the first time I watched it and I was 13 or something
Leo White
This. I really do like the baneposting meme in generql, but the fact that people found this dialogue confusing in any way just blows my mind. How can you be so fucking retarded as to not understand what he meant? Is it non native english speakers whonhad the problem? Was it people with autism or other social development disorders who didn't understand it?
Gabriel Barnes
didn't the doctor in the prison basically explain that?
Matthew Stewart

what did he mean by this?
Lincoln Carter
It's still such an odd, robotic Nolan-ism that he thinks it would make any sense whatsoever that because a man looks to be somewhat buff, he'd be better able to handle respiratory or related pain. Just because he has pecs and an ok back doesnt mean he's not privy to the same central nervous system as the rest of us. "FUck i broke my arm!" "It's cool man, you're pretty built."
Jace Miller
Bane, get down here and eat your breakfast before you miss the schoolbus!

1) Baneposting is eternal 2) Amazing how badly Snyder, Goyer and WB fucked up with their attempt at a shared universe, as evidenced by there STILL being conversations about Nolan's efforts while everyone is trying to forget MoS and BvS ever happened.
Nicholas Powell
>and it isn't just horrible dialogue as was led to believe: Only plebs that couldn't tease out the hidden layers of meaning themselves every thought it was bad dialogue.
Nolan Hill
Wrong. He is actually addressing the audience with this line. CIA is just a stand in for an authoritarian government itself ruled by a mass of üntermenschen through application of slave morality. Bane is the Übermensch, and thus a big guy (for you).
Wyatt Kelly
>Uh, you don't get to bring Syrians
Charles Martinez
This. There was no point in that flashback anyways
Juan Lee

I don't know if some of the guys here just trying to bait with the whole "i don't know why the line was that confusing" but tom hardy himself said that when he said "for you" he meant it as if he's a big guy for him and not a continuation of "it would be extremely painful", meaning the dialogue was confusing for the actor as well. You could say that tom hardy himself is an autist so it's not really an argument but that exchange of dialogue was really weird, it may have been looked good on paper but evidently it didn't fly so good on camera in combination with the editing.
Joshua Wilson
who is she anyway?
Lucas Collins
It doesn't matter who she is. What matters is her plan.
Brandon Foster
but now everyone cares when she put on the mask
Aiden Adams
>but the fact that people found this dialogue confusing in any way just blows my mind. user that's literally how it started. One guy came in a thread and asked "Hey did he mean he was a big guy compared to him, or that it would be painful for him" and the thread blew up with people calling him stupid. It all started there. t. Doctor of Memeology
Easton Collins
If i pull that off, will you die?
It would be extremely painful!
You're a big guy (CIA implies Bane can handle the pain because he is a big and strong guy)
For you (Bane turns it around, he will inflict pain upon CIA if he tries to take off his mask.)
It ain't hard lads
Elijah Gray
That's literally confirmed wrong though. That's why the meme took off
Colton Ramirez
Confirmed by whom?
Jonathan Martin
>Implying you'll ever get a reasonable answer to this very basic question
Kayden Wood
Hello fellow Bane connaisseurs,
Would you please explain to me where the "No! I am in charge here!" meme comes from? I have studied the scene, but am at a loss. Any help?
Connor Allen
It's from the novelisation of the film.
Bentley Phillips
Obviously even hardy said so
Besides at the end batman disables hus mask and he goes down like a bitch
Ian Watson
From the mouth (fingers) of Tom Hardy: "It was written meaning it would be painful for you, but I intoned it meaning "I'm a big guy for you."
Matthew Sullivan
It's from the novelization. That's what CIA is thinking as the plane is hijacked. That's also where the "feather in my cap" line comes from.
Chase Walker
>An armed man suddenly appeared outside a window, thousands of feet above the ground. Startled, one of the guards spun toward the window, but not quickly enough. Shots rang out from opposite directions as a pair of snipers fired through windows. Glass shattered and Wilson’s men dropped to the floor. Blood and chaos spilled throughout the cabin. Death amended the flight plan.
>'No!' Wilson thought. 'This can’t be happening! I’m in charge here!'
Luis Adams
>Death amended the flight plan. Who wrote this thrash?
Logan Taylor
>a pair of snipers
Holy shit
Jose Miller

Oliver Gomez
>Wilson was fascinated by the man’s elaborate headwear, which resembled a specialized gas mask. Was it there purely for effect, or did the breathing apparatus serve some vital function? He gestured at it.
>“If I pull this off, will you die?”
>“It would be extremely painful,” Bane answered.
>Good to know, Wilson thought. He had no sympathy for the ruthless mercenary. Bane was a bad guy who deserved to suffer. “You’re a big guy.”
>“For you,” Bane clarified.
The novalization is pure gold
Landon Lee
>If I pull that off will you die? >flashback begins
Wuold be kino
Jose Miller
I hate how the mask was only elaborated on in fucking Interviews
Christian Martinez
Deleted scenes, I read somewher there was a scene of Batman scrambling over police cars to get to bane during the battle for Gotham. There was footage for it during the promotional run. I'd like to see it if it exists, anyone know about it?
Luke Flores
>>Good to know, Wilson thought. He had no sympathy for the ruthless mercenary. Bane was a bad guy who deserved to suffer. “You’re a big guy.” This is fanfiction right?
Carson Mitchell
now, is he saying "big guy for you (he's big, compared to CIA)" or "extremely painful for you" or is he saying "big guy FOR YOU (as in he's a big guy FOR CIA)" I don't get it. I feel like the potential homoerotic tension between CIA and Bane would add a lot to Bane's character.
Mason Turner
Powerful.
Alexander Morris
No. Welcome to licensed novel. Now you know why the author of the Witcher series was so annoyed that they put images of the video game adaptation on the new book covers.
Aaron King
explain.
Juan Allen
CIA wasn't married (a man past a certain age without a wife and family...), and Bane's only known exposure to women was Talia. Bane took care of her, and there's a good chance they fucked. Perhaps Bane was mocking CIA's lack of wedding ring, intoning "big guy for you" to trip up CIA's insecurities. The novelization shows CIA's thoughts, he was obsessed with position of power and being in charge.
CIA may or may not been gay, but he was certainly afraid of Bane accusing him of such.
Angel Robinson
Popular European author sells rights to a videogame based on his work. Videogame is a surprise hit in the anglosphere, where his work was never released. The books (which predate the games by something like 15 years) are translated into English and to boost sales, the publisher puts video game promotional art on the cover. English readers end up thinking that they're licensed video game novels. Author gets hugely butthurt.
Joseph Allen
Hot heads have autism
Adam Phillips
I see, so it takes an ancient Roman approach to the idea of homoeroticism?
The "giving" partner is dominant and in this situation this obviously would've been Bane, as he is a fairly big guy compared to CIA.
Henry Martin
>CIA wasn't married (a man past a certain age without a wife and family...), Field agents never have family.
Cooper Reed
It's not like they're reading novelizations of the video game, they're actually reading his own work. (as far as i know the games weren't based off the books but in the same world with the same characters after the events of the books)
Wyatt Wood
Non-gamers thought they were video game novels and skipped them.
> (as far as i know the games weren't based off the books but in the same world with the same characters after the events of the books)
>they're not based on the books except for the parts that are based on the books really made me think
Colton Robinson
>tfw no prequel that is just that intro scene interspersed with flashbacks that make everything make sense
Anthony Jenkins
Poor sapkowski he really didnt need more things to be butthurt over
Luke Ramirez
Anyone who's read the comics already knows this about Bane's mask. He's saying it would be extremely painful for both of them.
Christopher Brown
>parts that are based on the books Their more like homages recreating scenes from the books just a little different cause its 20yrs later, at least that was 1 and 2 never played 3
More like Bane was playing up CIA's insecurities to fuck with him. Mindgames.
Joseph Morales
no it was a forced meme shit for years until the actor in question referenced the meme in an "ASK ME ANYTHING" on reddit
So the meme itself is fundamentally reddit

Jaxon Hughes
Why the hell won't they just release the deleted scenes on home media? I want to see the prototype mask and shit. Nolan is probably a turbo-autist and thinks it would ruin the mystique or some dumb shit.
Andrew Carter
No he flubbed his line. In the script he said it would be extremely baneful. It was a callback to an ability Bane had in the comics where his toxin gas could infect people and turn them into Banes.
Jack Martin
WRONG! Bane is stating the obvious. CIA is a small guy next to him.
Michael Richardson
>Bane was a bad guy who deserved to suffer. “You’re a big guy.” >Bad guy >Big Guy Poetry
Benjamin Hall
You do realise that if this is true, then there is no longer any doubt that "for you" is a direct response to "you're a big guy"
Logan Evans
There was one Baneposter that would spam this shit for months after the prologue was leaked. All of Sup Forums fucking hated him. Then the movie came out, Reddit started flooding in, Reddit thought the Baneposter was a meme, and the rest is history.
TL;DR reddit is the propigator of the bane autism
Easton Lee
It started here, and it hasn't changed since day one. Only thing different is people at first attempted to explain the error to OP but now people pretend to be retarded and retards act normal.
Cooper Moore
They're authorize fanfic sequels based on the events of the books. Mostly. Sometimes they go their own way or just shit the bed.
