WHAT COULD HAVE BEEN: Wolverine

Since LOGAN is confirmed capekino, might as well take a look at the road that led him there.

The X-MEN Series (2000-2016)

>In 1991, Bob Hoskins was approached for the role in movie written by Andrew Kevin Walker ("Se7en"), directed by Kathryn Bigelow ("The Hurt Locker") and produced by James Cameron. The project was scrapped when the production company, Carolco Pictures, went bankrupt and the rights were acquired by Fox.

>Fox approached Glenn Danzig for the role in 1993, but he declined due to scheduling conflicts.

>When Bryan Singer was selected to direct the movie in 1999, he approached Russell Crowe for the role, but Crowe declined over salary disputes and recommended his friend Hugh Jackman instead, but Fox passed over as Jackman only had musical theater performances to his name at the time.

>Edward Norton and Gary Sinise were Fox's top choices for the role, but both ultimately declined. Keannu Reeves, Kiefer Sutherland, Aaron Eckhart and Viggo Mortensen were also approached.

>Singer ultimately selected Dougray Scott, who was projected to be Hollywood's next breakout star after playing the main villain in MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE 2. However, filming delays with the movie forced Scott to drop out at the last minute. Jackman was then given an opportunity to audition and impressed Singer and the producers enough to be cast in the role. He began shooting two weeks into filming.

>There were plans to pair Wolverine with Storm once the love triangle between him, Jean Grey and Cyclops was resolved, but the storyline was cut from both X-MEN: THE LAST STAND and X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST.

first

I like the part where he kill bad guy with claws

X-Men Origins: Wolverine (2009)

>Zack Snyder and Len Wiseman were approached to direct the movie before Gavin Hood was hired.

>Early drafts featured a more character-driven, R-rated story, which was revised to scale down the violence to PG-13 and open up spin-off possibilites for Deadpool, Gambit and Cyclops, who were all absent from the original treatment.

>In early drafts, Weapon XI is an army of clones of Sabretooth artifically infused with Wolverine's healing factor so they can survive the Adamantium bonding procedure. Wolverine decapitates Sabretooth and slaughter his clones, but one of them escapes and goes on to become the Sabretooth that is later recruited by Magneto and featured in X-MEN.

>In later drafts, Weapon XI was Garrison Kane, a human operative from Team X, but Rothman decided to merge the character with Deadpool due to Deadpool's popularity. Scott Adkins was originally cast as Kane, and when the characters were merged, Ryan Reynolds provided close-up shots of Weapon XI in last-minute reshoots, while Adkins' fight scenes and faraway shots were kept, and he was credited as Reynolds' stuntman.

>Gerard Butler was approached to play Sabretooth, but declined. Liev Schreiber was originally approached to play William Stryker, but Jackman insisted that he should be cast as Sabretooth instead. Michael C. Hall was then approached for Stryker before Danny Huston was cast.

>Michelle Monaghan was originally cast as Silverfox, but dropped out due to scheduling conflicts and replaced by Lynn Collins.

>Hood had a notoriously contentious relationship with Rothman due to Rothman's executive meddling, and nearly dropped out of production after Rothman ilegally rebuilt and recolored the Weapon X sets behind his back for make them brighter and cleaner.

>character-driven, R-rated Zack Snyder Wolverine movie
We could have had Wolverine capekino so much earlier.

I didn't know they went through so many, I really can't imagine anyone else in the role of wolverine desu

Wow, they really capitalised brilliantly on Deadpool's popularity with that movie

Honestly this should be a case study of how a studio can fuck something up with interference

The Wolverine (2013)

>Darren Aronofsky was originally slated to write and direct the movie, but dropped out due to creative differences and was replaced by James Mangold.

>Aronofsky's script was R-rated and set in 1987, featuring Logan being recruited by a secret order of ninjas, The Hand, to become an enforcer for the Yashida Crime Family in Japan. Logan falls in love with Mariko Yashida, daughter of mobster Shingen Yashida, and must fight for her love. Other characters included Yukio, Logan's bodyguard and lover; Zen, Logan's master in the Hand; Elvis, an American mobster and Shingen's rival; Harada, Shingen's illegitimate son who craves for his father's approval; Viper, an assassin and Harada's lover; and corrupt Chief of Justice Noburo More, Mariko's fiance.

>Early drafts featured Rogue as Logan's companion, and Ichiro Yashida would be revealed to possess the same powers as her, with Logan being the only one capable of survive being touched by Yashida, but this storyline was eventually dropped.

>Jessica Biel was approached for Viper before Svetlana Khodchenkova was cast.

>There were plans for a sequel about Logan and Yukio going on an adventure in the island of Madripoor, but they were scrapped when X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST was greenlit.

>Rothman ilegally rebuilt and recolored the Weapon X sets behind his back for make them brighter and cleaner.
wait, if Rothman was a producer on the film, then how is this "illegal?"

I was shocked that Harvey keitel was never wolverine.

>Darren Aronofsky was originally slated to write and direct the movie, but dropped out due to creative differences and was replaced by James Mangold.
again, wait. wasn't the real story that Aronofsky refused to film in Japan due to the Fukushima disaster, which occurred at the time?

>1987 japan and rated r

wtffffff why didnt we get this

I'm just going to use this thread to ask: Was there any after credits scene after Logan? I've heard there wasn't

Nope

Logan (2017)

>There originally were plans to include Liev Schreiber's Sabretooth. He would be running an underground casino and Logan would seek him for help protecting Laura, but the idea was scrapped for unspecified reasons.

>There were originally plans to include Mister Sinister. He would be the mastermind behind Laura's creation, but the idea was scrapped to keep the movie self-contained and grounded in reality.

>In early drafts, Logan and Xavier's goal is to help Laura reach an "underground railroad" for mutants which would include former members of the X-Men, with Kitty Pryde slated to make an appearance, but the idea was scrapped to keep the movie self-contained and focused on Logan and Xavier.

No. This movie was pretentious as fuck.

>Bob Hoskins
What the fuck

>Zack Snyder was approached to direct the movie before Gavin Hood was hired.

oh, what could have been

>oh, what could have been

Shit.

All of the budget went to Jackman's and stewart's salaries.

He was once a tough guy.

Idiots.

There was, but given the tone of the movie and the tone of the scene they decided to stick it before the movie.

Hugh Jackman actually took a salary cut to get the movie to be R-rated.
