Strangelove

Barry Lyndon

Clockwork Orange

I don't really have a favorite director, but I'll post a meme one because I'm curious about what Sup Forums think his best movie is.

Fuck you Lumet is a patrician, people here only know him for maybe 3 of his films tops, but he practically shat out constant kinos in his early life.
From Fail-Safe to The Verdict, all absolute kinos.

3.33. He can (not) direct.

Read the thread before you post.

A serious Man.

What are your faves from him?

I've seen The Asphalt Jungle, Treasure of the Sierra Madre, The Dead, Prizzi's Honor, Fat City, The Misfits, and Wise Blood.

Really like Treasure and Fat City. Like The Dead and The Misfits.

Didn't really give a fuck about the others.

Where is the great stuff?

Fuck off

Reservoir Dogs.

My favorite is either Treasure of the Sierra Madre or Under the Volcano.

There's also The Maltese Falcon, The Man Who Would Be King, The African Queen and Let There Be Light.

He has a bunch of misses, but the hits are amazing.

Alright I'll check those out brah. Maltese Falcon I have never got around to for some reason.

I am curious about Under the Volcano but I am planning on reading the book soon before watching it.

Let There Be Light sounds pretty great too.

Thanks for the recs.

Also, have you heard of Five Came Back? New miniseries on Netflix about Huston and a few other wartime directors who actually served in the military. Anyway, it's supposed to be pretty great if you have any interest.

A Serious Man is the right answer.

NCFOM is their definitive film.

Nah. A Serious Man is such a biting criticism and satire of Judaism that can only be made by Jews. Clearly they drew on their own childhoods and wrote a hilarious movie. It goes beyond Judaism and it can be seen as a clash between old and the new, the 'regular' life of conformity and counter-culture, religion and atheism. It is a multilayered film which shows that no matter how hard you try to build a perfect, simple life life gets in the way and fucks shit up. It also shows life is full of uncertainty and ultimately it is tragedy after tragedy. It is a brilliant dark comedy and they will never top it. Plus the cinematography, soundtrack, photography and editing is on point.

Plus the cinematography,

...

But Barton Fink though.

...

Finally someone with taste. I know he's done some forgetable ones but Blow Out and Untouchables are kino.

Twin Peaks too meddled, still knocked it out the park.

Turturro is their scalpel.

Discuss

Jules Jordan is a guy?

What the fuck, this whole time I thought it was a female pornstar who decided to start a website/network of her own and named it after herself.

you clearly need to do more reading on pornkino

I liked Drive and I'm really curious about OGF, but I'm skeptical about the rating it got on IMDB, I'm not saying that IMDB is supposed to be accurate, but a 5 for a movie that seems beloved here... what's wrong with the movie/rating?

Critics and fans, who only knew Refn from Drive, expected Drive 2, were upset when it was more akin to Valhalla, told through visuals with little exposition, ultra violent, and the Goose was not a real human bean and hero.

It's a triumph of visual filmmaking.

Fail Safe or dog's day afternoon
Network is great too

Bronson, Drive, or Fear X

Apocalypse Now

Shin Godzilla

The Straight Story or Lost Highway

Insomnia is underrated, but Memento is my answer

Fargo or The Big Lebowski
Burn After Reading is underrated as fuck
