A month ago I bought a couple of tickets to go see Aphex live in paris, one for my girlfriend. When I told her about it she asked me "ho cool what's their famous song again ?". Needless to say I was pretty nervous about taking her as I have been listening to his music for all my life religiously...She didn't want to be briefed at all and said she trusted me on this, wanted to discover the all thing on the spot etc.
To see him live is quite an experience to say the least. As the crowd started to vanish after 45mn of heavy tormenting with glitches and breaks she really "got it"... Like all good things in life you have to endure a little to appreciate the beauty that hides beneath the surface of things. It's more a journey than a live performance and she was really to be taken into that. She fully understood what he wanted to do and where it all went.
I was more than happy, and I loved her even more then. I don't need to listen to AFX with her all the time but it meant the world to me to have her understand and enjoy such music.
It's a part of me and it seems it's also a part of you now, if that lady can't love it or appreciate it then it will grow on you and you will eventually suffer from it.
I could never love anyone who doesn't love or appreciate Aphex. Or at least be curious about it. Man music is more important than anything.
