Ehhh. I watched it for the first time a few months ago and to tell you the truth the only parts I liked were Travis' monologues. That and Scorsese's cameo.

you talking to me???

Fucking love it. Travis is probably the film character that I find the most relatable (loner)

Dude I'm lonely lmao

It's in my top five. I have seen it many times over the years and i like it more every time

Taxi driver is damn good movie. It expounds really good the spirit of the 70s from the perspective of a tiny working-class man: far behind the cultural revolution of the 60s, the conservative, purgatory ideas come again. This little man struggles to find his place in this chaos of ideas and chooses those conservative ones.

Why do I love Scorsese's 70s and early 80s stuff but think that all of his more recent stuff including Goodfellas is shit?

>tfw you relate to Wizard more than Travis

Why is the 70's depicted as dark times in the US history?

Travis was 100% correct.

>expounds
>working-class
Faggot and wrong

I've never been so deep in the shitter that I relate to Travis, but it's a great film.

Bernard Hermann's score is GOAT

shitty economy, political/racial/social unrest, post-Vietnam disillusion, also the movie was made during a small window where American movies weren't all Hollywood studio crap

There hasn't, and probably never will be, a film that depicts loneliness (the kind that makes you deranged) this accurately again.

And if you mention Lost in Translation or Eternal Sunshine. Get the fuck off my board.

King of Comedy has the same vibes

Because your taste is bad.

It's good but Mean Streets is better

Because the Golden Age of Post-war Capitalism which created and fed the middle class is coming to an end, giving place to speculative, crony, vulture capitalism, backed by Republicans.

top 10 of all time

u should watch the movie in black and white once , it looks fucking awesome

Fuck off contrarian

The 70's had the same issues like in current 2010's.

>Unstable economy
>Racial tensions at all time high
>Middle East is fucked up

dumbest thing i've ever heard

His 70s and 80s stuff is better from an artistic standpoint but Goodfellas/Casino are just pure enjoyment on screen, two of the most rewatchable movies ever. Everything after is pretty good but also doesn't feel inspired at all, and could also probably use some serious editing.
You don't think the Democrats have been in on it at least since Bill Clinton?

NOW'S THE TIME

>You don't think the Democrats have been in on it at least since Bill Clinton?
You're right, that's why people like Richard Stallman distinguish between republican-like Democrats and progressive ones like Bernie Sanders.

Mean Streets is good but Who's That Knocking at My Door is better.

Pure comfy kino, love it everytime I watch it

First watched it when I was 12 didn't understand slot of it. When I was 13 I watched it again and shaved myself a Mohawk with a straight razor because I wanted to be just like him. Have watched it a handful of times over the years, used to think he was the shit. I am 24 now and I understand now that he was just a regular guy like me who couldn't function in society. I can sympathize with him as I am a man who has struggled to function but am getting my shit together. Growing up makes you see how juvenile you were when you were a teenager.

One of the greatest American films ever made and Deniro's greatest performance.

Good fucking movie. But why did Travis try to kill Palantine? To get back at Betsy for rejecting him or is it some deeper meaning i'm not getting?

I think for attention + lashing out at a symbol of degeneracy in a society he feels he has no place in

he shoots the pimps for the same reason but instead of being reviled he is celebrated

Bernard Herrmann is amazing.

>Loneliness has followed me my whole life. Everywhere. In bars, in cars, sidewalks, stores, everywhere. There's no escape. I'm God's lonely man...June 8th. My life has taken another turn again. The days can go on with regularity over and over, one day indistinguishable from the next. A long continuous chain. Then suddenly, there is a change.

honestly.. this is my diary desu

It disturbed me a little.

It's funny how people her claim to love this movie when they don't even understand it. Travis isn't supposed to be a good guy,he's an example of lonely men who develop Maddonna-whore complex. Scorsese even explicitly said that this was a feminist movie.

they.... cannot..... touch...... her

i like it. as far as scorsese goes i prefered the last temptation of christ, but then again i am a bit of a christfag

I watched it for the first time ever this year. It was pretty decent, maybe I'm a pleb but I expected and wanted full day of the rope shit from Travis but it ended on a surprisingly nice note.

Pretty comfy in a depressing way with the picture it paints of society.

>wanted full day of the rope shit
day of the rope will never be a solution

>day of the rope will never be a solution

it's not. stop hoping for it.

This. The movie is extremely liberal and people don't even notice.

...

Being disgusted by selfish street criminals and wanting to stop underage prostitution aren't really "conservative" ideas. They're just common sense "normal human" ideas.
