Heavy Metal's still around?

We had a thread where someone posted some scans a while ago.

Aw.
Never gone out of print. It's not as big in America I guess.
I missed that. Damn.

and what was the verdict?

Nope.

Wasn't a lot

>It's not as big in America I guess
I feel like's it's relevance here has really slipped from the early days where it printed Moebius, Druillet, Vaughn Bodē, and Corbern

Yeah, they mostly print erotica and the odd Enki Bilal these days.

>mostly print erotica

not true at all. Only reason there was so much sex in the last issue, was because it was a SEX special. There is occasionally an erotica story, but it's not a focus anymore, despite any of the covers.

The covers should change to reflect that.

>Is anyone reading Heavy Metal

No

The covers literally have a history of being sexy fantasy/scifi themed for longer than you've been alive I'm sure. It's a tradition. Grant morrison has been publishing covers without any sexy ladies, but there will always some with them. It reinforced the theme of heavy metal which is adult themed sci fi/fantasy.

the editor said they lost readers every time they changed it

>sex special

Any chance of that getting dumped on /aco/

I'm the guy defending the sexy covers here
and I can tell you that it's not that great. Not fappable at all.

I don't really like it. I've tried it many times, but the lack of polish just really turns me off. And since that hasn't changed under Grant, still not going to keep up with it.

The real problem with heavy metal nowadays is the original magazine, while having amateur artists, were actually good at the craft. It had the greats like Moebius, Giger, Corben, and Drullet. Now it's just a bunch of unpolished crap with shit stories.

I've been picking up the occasional issue of Heavy Metal for years and the first Grant Morrison led issue seemed like more of the same. Which is not necessarily a bad thing.

Does anyone know that comic about a greek or roman dude who gets turned into a donkey? Explicit at parts but on an artsy way, not pornographic. I saw it dumped on /d/ last year and I've been wondering if that's the kind of quality that can be expected from Heavy Metal

Ok

Pretty much this, Heavy Metal is wholly unremarkable now. Even Enki Bilal's current story is a shitty Romeo and Juliet knockoff that looks like skid marks.
