Only Kaz returned as a writer, and the new episodes he's written were the weakest in my opinion.
The show switched back to using a script-driven format for its episodes, which paved the way for a slew of new writers to join the crew while flushing out the old boarders that gave Spongebob such a shitty reputation.
Hillenburg is back, but he's not doing much in the way of showrunning, a job that was left to Vincent Waller and Marc Ceccarelli. Vincent was a crew member since the beginning of the show while Marc joined as a boarder for Season 8 and the first half of 9.
