Can French really tell the difference between /œ/ and /o/?
Nathan Diaz
Reposting from last thread because I have to decide as soon as possible I'm going back to university and decided to take Russian classes since I have no routine when learning by myself, the thing is it's two classes a week of two hours each, and I don't know if I'll be able to study for the other classes What should I do?
Benjamin Brown
I meant the rounded /e/. Dunno why Sup Forums replaced it for a normal /o/.
Joshua Young
Are we supposed to ? I don't hear any difference between peur and coeur.

How do people remember to use German cases in speech. It's hard enough when I have time to read and write.
just listen to Germans a lot, and practice to develop automatisms

What would be a good way to learn how to TALK on English correctly ? I've been learning English since 2016 and now I feel more or less confident with my level of writing , but talking is another whole world , it's hard to hide my horrible Spanish accent.

Thanks ouibros

It would make more sense to say >What would be a good way to SPEAK IN English correctly. Maybe watch English tv shows or news stations. Make sure you aren't listening to Blacks or other minorities unless you want to speak ebonics or something.

هیچ کس نباید دلسرد کرده بشود, Theaetetus, کسی می تواند پیشرفت بکند, بااینکه آهسته باشد I feel awkward about the lastpart, but I -think- it gets the meaning across at least. (even though...)

I regret paying $150 for this German class
We don't even have a proper classroom. The first few weeks, we met at a cafe, and then for a week we had no classroom. Then we met in the lobby of a random student's apartment lobby. Today we are going to meet at a Barne and Noble Cafe, and maybe next 2 weeks, we will meet in another random student's house
Jonathan Richardson
Then the class is only halfway done, and we have to beg other students for use of their apartments. One guy said we can use his living room, but he has to ask his roommates if it's okay
I guess I should bring a present for the student who is volunteering his or her dining room. Maybe a bag of fruit?
Owen Turner
lol. Why would you bring anything? You already paid for the class and it should be the guy who collected your and all other students money who pays for any expense. Don't be a cuck

I really hate not being able to focus on Italian right now. I haven't touched it since Christmas since my focus is on German, but im going to Italy this weekend and might have dinner with an Italian qt's senpai next weekend and they dont speak english.
Im looking over my notes but ive forgotten quite a bit, and relearning it all now when i've got a german test coming up isn't really what im into
Thomas Phillips
Assuming you are French native? Wouldn't Italian be relatively easy for you to pick up?
Jaxon Young

The teacher is an old lady, and her organization is the one who organized the classes. She offered to refund the money because they didn't provide a classroom, but besides the no classroom situation, she is a pleasant and good teacher.

Practice. The key to learning any language is an incredible amount of repetitive exercise. I don't consider myself fluent but as long as I remember the noun's gender, the cases and declension come naturally to me.

>not knowing who he is He's a Canadian who went to Switzerland to learn German, and then upon arriving, he realised that actual German and Swiss German are very very very different. Last time we spoke, you were in Italy. Were you just there for a holiday or something? Nadie debería tener desconfianza, Theaetetus, si puede seguir haciendo progreso, sin hacer caso de la velocidad.

Nieko neturėtų būti prislėgta, Theaetetus'as, ko gali padaryti nuolatinė pažanga, net jei lėtai bus.
Lincoln Richardson
About a year of taking it seriously but I teach myself things on and off.
For cases, first know when to use each case (nom. acc. dat. gen) - I wrote a guide for this on Duolingo a while ago I can dig up if you need it. If you're fine with this and are familiar with pic related then move on.
First remember pic related, then use that table for more complex sentences. The first table is adjectives that follow the word "the", the second is how you write an adjective when it follows a word that already has an ending and the third is when you have an adjective that isn't preceded either by an adjective or definite article. THE MOST IMPORTANT THING TO DO IS PRACTICE -- THINK OF A SENTENCE IN ENGLISH, WRITE IT OUT IN GERMAN THEN FEED THE ENGLISH SENTENCE INTO GOOGLE TRANSLATE TO SEE IF IT WORKS. REPEAT UNTIL GOOD. Google translate is terrible with context but can manage this sort of thing at least
thanks mate biggest problem I have is because of our shit education system. I know how to correctly use and apply English grammar but I was never taught the specific mechanics and rules. Now I'm stuck learning every single grammatical concept in English before I can even try to apply it to other languages.
I learned a lot about English grammar myself by learning German, it's weird Go pronounce "th"

I found german a bit oversimplified when it comes to cases What puzzles me is splitting a prefix from the verb and showing it at the end of the sentence. That shit is insane.
Besides one of them essentially being "with", I never understood what those extra cases were

Guys, how quickly can one get good at a foreign language if he studies roughly 1 hour a day on his own?
Christopher Lewis
Talk with other people. 1 hour a day is a really short timespan though. Try raising it to 2 hours when you get the opportunity
Joshua Cruz
One hour isn't much, it would take you some time. To just get good? More than a year. Fluency? Closer to two, on average. It also depends on the language you're learning.
Mason Evans
>2 years to get to fluency at one hour a day Try actually learning a foreign language before giving retarded advice
Cooper Gomez
The estimated time for fluency on most languages averages between 400-600 hours based on relationship with your native language or whichever languages you already know. One hour a day for two years more than satisfies both, assuming it's kept up consistently.

depends on what you're doing with your time. but 1h is pretty good. 2h is probably optimal.
I'd say with 1h a day you could be reading comfortably in most european languages within a year
