Which decade has the best "Best Picture" winners and what's objectively the best film from this list?
2016 - "Moonlight" 2015 - "Spotlight" 2014 - "Birdman" 2013 - "12 Years a Slave" 2012 - "Argo" 2011 - "The Artist" 2010 - "The King's Speech"
2009 - "The Hurt Locker" 2008 - "Slumdog Millionaire" 2007 - "No Country for Old Men" 2006 - "The Departed" 2005 - "Crash" 2004 - "Million Dollar Baby" 2003 - "The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King" 2002 - "Chicago" 2001 - "A Beautiful Mind" 2000 - "Gladiator"
1999 - "American Beauty" 1998 - "Shakespeare in Love" 1997 - "Titanic" 1996 - "The English Patient" 1995 - "Braveheart" 1994 - "Forrest Gump" 1993 - "Schindler’s List" 1992 - "Unforgiven" 1991 - "The Silence of the Lambs" 1990 - "Dances With Wolves"
1989 - "Driving Miss Daisy" 1988 - "Rain Man" 1987 - "The Last Emperor" 1986 - "Platoon" 1985 - "Out of Africa" 1984 - "Amadeus" 1983 - "Terms of Endearment" 1982 - "Gandhi" 1981 - "Chariots of Fire" 1980 - "Ordinary People"
Josiah Cook
It's embarrassing to see how the quality of films on the list seems to drop the more recent you go
Adam Thompson
For me it's The Last Emperor, pure kinographique.
Best decade would be 2000's, it has the overall highest average standard, with Gladiator, LOTR, No Country for Old Men.
Everything after 2010 is basically Oscar bait 'look at me I'm acting'.
James Cruz
Man, 00s and 10s are fucking garbage. Even 90s had at least Silence of the Lambs, while not the best movie to come out that year it's still good enough to give the award some sense of integrity.
Dominic Allen
Actually I think 90's was best, as long as you take out Titanic and Shakespeare in Love.
Xavier Young
And Braveheart, cucked Scots don't deserve it
Camden Foster
>1995 - "Braveheart" >1994 - "Forrest Gump" >1993 - "Schindler’s List" >1992 - "Unforgiven" >1991 - "The Silence of the Lambs" >1990 - "Dances With Wolves"
muy bueno
i have not seen any of '10s
'00s are ruined by Crash
'80s are decent
Brandon Mitchell
>old stuff is good >new stuff is bad
What a smart, original opinion!
Luis Turner
>I don't like objective facts
Ryder Nguyen
> Last seven years > Moonlight, Spotlight, Birdman, 12 Years a Slave, Argo, The Artist, The King's Speech, The Hurt Locker.
Give me one good reason why any of these films won't be entirely forgotten in ten years.
Colton Gonzalez
00s. Gladiator The Departed Million Dollar Baby LOTRTROTK NCFOM A Beautiful Mind. All films I've rewatched multiple times and loved. It's just a shame it has the worst film on the list there too, Crash.
10s is by far the worst. None of those films are worth rewatching.
Thomas Gonzalez
That Silence won best picture shows how the Oscars have 0 sense of integrity. And they never had. It was always bullshit for 7/10 Hollywood schlock.
Liam Edwards
Best Picture Decade Power Ranking
1. 1990's 2. 1980's 3. 2000's . . . POWER GAP . . . 9001. 2010's
Angel Barnes
Well, Birdman is at least a properly beautiful film.
Levi Taylor
Because they're entirely forgotten now
Isaiah Edwards
> 00's ruined by Crash > Not Chicago > Not A Beautiful Mind
90's wins hands down. Aside from Shakespeare in Love, all the films are classics in their genre.
Jack Turner
>The Hurt Locker. >The Artist >Spotlight
You could argue that these are all forgotten about now.
Jacob Kelly
Every film in the 90's list is a household name. The same can't said for the other decades.
Leo Torres
I suppose if you're into self-indulgent faux artistry, Birdman is a state-of-the-art, so that one I can somewhat understand.
Wyatt Ward
It's the Academy. "self-indulgent faux artistry" is literally the best you'll get.
Robert Garcia
Not to mention Argo. Who even likes that movie? What redeemable qualities does it have?
Seems to me it was just blatant propaganda for the Iran nuclear deal
Connor Lee
Goodness the 10s have been awful. Not a single classic movie on that list. They're just out of touch though because stuff like Wolf of Wall Street, Django Unchained, and Hell or High Water have been dope af.
Jaxon Perry
I don't know which is the best, but thus decade is definitely the worst. Moonlight was complete trash, 12 years a slave and Spotlight were forgettable oscar bait, and even the good movies like Argo would be above average in a weak decade like the 90s.
2000s had some top tier movies like No Country for Old Men and The Departed, but then you have Crash to fuck it up.
90s had overrated trash like Titanic and The English Patient. Feels leek they just picked whichever movie was the most popular.
Asher Miller
Best: Amadeus Worst: Crash Most Overrated: Forrest Gump Most Underrated: Shakespeare in Love

> Overrated: Forrest Gump
I disagree, it's nostalgia bait for baby boomers, which it does impeccably well.
Jaxson Hernandez
So many good movies this decsde and they chose shit like Moonlight and 12 years a slave.
Isaiah Richardson
>Titanic and The English Patient.
Looking at the nominees for those two years, there's only one other movie that more deserves the prize (Fargo and L.A. Confidential). The rest are mediocrities like The Full Monty and Jerry Maguire.
Angel Lee
Meant for
Austin Roberts
> The Full Monty > Mediocre
Bitch I'll fight you
Jason Campbell
Bertolucci is the man, too bad he's never talked about in here
Jaxson Ross
Both of those would've been better choices.
>Jerry Maguire was oscar nominated
Wtf were they thinking?
Ryan Murphy
Best: The Last Emperor Worst: Chicago Most Overrated: Titanic Most Underrated: Unforgiven

GO FUCKING DIE, FAGGOT!
Gabriel Diaz
12 Years a Slave and Birdman will stand the test of time
Blake King
Yeah, strange. The Last Emperor has some beautiful shots and is really comfy, yet almost brings me to tears at some points.
Cooper Hughes
>Bring me the butter. Wow so deep

>the king's speech got best picture i don't pay attention to awards at all but holy fuck, this is kind of a shock. i thought it was good, but not that good. was everything else really that bad?
Gabriel Cook
Poo in it!
Nicholas Sanders
>moonlight >spotlight >12 years a slave >argo such horse shit the last few years
Ian Watson
(you)
Sebastian Davis
Personally, that and Little Buddha are among my favourite films, while my GF is absolutely in love with The Sheltering Sky and Last Tango. Bonus points to Bertolucci for his continuos collab with Sakamoto, which I adore. Talking about why he isn't talked about here, see
Lincoln King
I thought it was excellent
Robert Flores
the prime contenders were The Social Network, Inception and The Black Swan. So yeah, pretty mediocre year.
Benjamin Gutierrez
You can tell where it all went downhill. 1998. That's the year Weinstein pretty much bought an oscar for Shakespeare in Love over Saving Private Ryan and a Thin Red Line and changed the awards to a late run award season rush
Christian Carter
Nominees:
THE KING'S SPEECH Black Swan The Fighter Inception The Kids Are All Right
I'd rank it 4th or 5th in this list.
Grayson Rogers
2010s would have been the best of they picked correctly.
2016 - "Hell or High Water" (Strong) 2015 - "Room" 2014 - "Whiplash" 2013 - "Dallas Buyers Club" 2012 - "Argo" (Weak) 2011 - "The Artist" (Weak) 2010 - "The Social Network"
Nolan Stewart
iBoy (2017) has the best chance of winning.
Carson Cook
Wow I never knew Sup Forums hated 12 Years a Slave so much. Why? It's a great film
The Black Swan should've won easily
Jack Diaz
The 70s.
Mason Kelly
10 nominees not 5
Carter Morris
I can agree with you. We have similar tastes, although Whiplas is not really of my liking
Adam Collins
Great jerk off material.
Aaron Barnes

Ryder Edwards
What kind of meds are you on to find "Dances with Wolves", out of all the movies on that list, to be the only good one?
Bentley Rogers
t. Indian savage The only good comanche is a dead one
80's takes it, everything is either mediocre and unpretentious or unironically good best are The Last Emperor, Platoon, Amadeus
Idk why you stopped at the 80's though, earlier decades would have been more kino
Jayden Mitchell
>thinks dances with wolves is good >unforgiven and amadeus is forgettable the mind of an autistic pleb
Charles Nguyen
Sup Forums hates black people how is it surprising
Ayden Hill
I dont understand how it won. Just patriotism propaganda
Parker Gomez
>Wow I never knew Sup Forums hated 12 Years a Slave so much. Why? It's a great film lol have a guess
Jacob Morales
it was a hollywood wank fest as well
Samuel Harris
Any chance BR2049 getting a nom?
Henry Young
I'm not shitposting but Wonder Woman and Get Out has better chances of getting a BP nom
I'm dead serious
Dylan Howard
About as much chance as Kevin spacey not being a nonce
Christian Watson
The most recent ones are mostly virtue signaling tweets turned into flicks. Just read the plot description on wikipedia.
millenials are cringeworty.
Gavin Brooks
I think the best movie I've seen this year is Only The Brave
Owen Powell
It seems all you need to do to win best picture in the past 10 years is to either make a movie that homages to a bygone era (the artist, birdman, and I'll add in La la land just because it was close to winning it), Some crappy drama inspired by a real event (king's speech, Spotlight, Argo, Hurt Locker), or a movie that fills the diversity category (Moonlight, 12 years a slave, Slumdog millionaire)
is this just what Hollywood cares about now? These 3 specific things? There are so many more iconic films for the past decade than the crap we have on here.
Charles Sanchez
Far from impossible.
Bentley Kelly
How it should have been:
>2016 - "Hell or High Water" >2015 - "The Big Short (because there wasn't anything better)" >2014 - "American Sniper (.|.)" >2013 - "Dallas Buyers Club (but I haven't seen Nebraska yet)" >2012 - "Argo (haven't seen many films of 2012)" >2011 - "The Artist (.!.)" >2010 - dunno >2009 - Anything but Avatar >2008 - "Gran Torino" >2007 - "No Country for Old Men" >2006 - "Letters from iwo Jima" >2005 - "Munich" >2004 - dunno >2003 - "Mystic River (.|,)" >2002 - "The Pianist" >2001 - "Fellowship of the ring" >2000 - "Traffic" >1999 - "American Beauty" >1998 - Literally anything but Shakespeare in love. Need to see The Thin Red Line >1997 - "La Confidential" >1996 - "Fargo" >1995 - dunno, but Bravejeart was weak >1994 - "Forrest Gump" >1993 - "Schindler’s List" >1992 - "Unforgiven" >1991 - "The Silence of the Lambs" or "Barton Fink" >1990 - "Dances With Wolves(.|.)" >1989 - dunno >1988 - dunno >1987 - dunno >1986 - "Platoon" >1985 - dunno >1984 - "Amadeus" >1983 - dunno >1982 - "Blade Runner" >1981 - dunno >1980 - "Raging Bull"
Elijah Murphy
I think so. Best Picture has more nomination spots it should manage to get in. It will get plenty of other nominations besides Best Picture tho. BR2049 will get nominatations in similar categories as Mad Max did. Production Deisng, Sound Mixing, Sound Editing, Costume Deisign and Cinematography. Roger Deakins still hasn't won an Oscar for cinematography, it's probably going to be 'his turn' to win it.
Cameron Jones
This. They made movies with purpose. Gandhi movie. Worldwide respected leader. Everyone cares. Perfectly timed after his death. Wins the award. Perfect.
Nowadays they think people wanna see some movie about magic black gays fucking. hollywood has gotten senile. desu im glad its almost over
Charles Cook
The best year of the 2000s was 2007. No Country and There Will Be Blood vying for all the spots. Both great films.
Camden Jones
fucking Argo, jesus christ
Julian Morgan
I like the Hurt Locker.
Tyler Moore
Good: 2014 - "Birdman"
2007 - "No Country for Old Men" 2003 - "The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King"
1994 - "Forrest Gump" 1993 - "Schindler’s List" 1991 - "The Silence of the Lambs"
So 80's win, but birdman has better film aspects, the rest are better stories.
Luke Barnes
>muh le ebil capitalism Sorry bro but you cucked
Christopher Reed
>this much of a eastwood fanboy >haven't seen films from how many years >haven't seen thin red line
I'm guessing Sup Forumstard trump voter who just turned 18
Jaxon Barnes
American Pedo and Unforgiven are good
Parker Gonzalez
Are you serious? Only amerilards like that shit.
Jayden Hernandez
you're retarded
Hunter Bell
The future of the world is homogeneous. There's a scene where a black man is breeding his white lady owner and that represented the absolute proper position intermixed couples should utilize for a more efficient impregnation
My rating: 10 out of 10, culturally enriched
Jacob Phillips
Not my fault Clint has been nailing film after film like no one else
Jason Hughes
2003
Noah Rivera
I get that 2015 was a weak year, but jesus Spotlight is one of the most boring pieces of shit I've ever seen.
Like fucking nothing happens. There's no stakes, no tension just a bunch of people doing their job. Mark Ruffalo's "acting" is fucking cringe worthy aswell.
Juan Young
>MUH GAY NEGROES WON OSCAR! >WE WAS OSCARS AND SHIET! >FUCK WHYPIPO
Brandon Barnes
This was a really strong year. Realistically, any of Selma, Imitation Game and Theory of Everything could EASILY have picked up the gong, as they are typical oscar bait ("inspiring historical drama with an important social message, focusing on the contributions of overlooked minorities"), GBH, Whiplash and Boyhood were also really strong. It's good they actually picked Birdman which is easily the most offbeat winner of a Best Picture in years, maybe ever. American Sniper shouldn't be there though, fuck off.
Kevin Ross
2016 was stronger and they picked the worst film.
Colton Perez
>make movies criticizing pedos in the church >award it to beat other movies and expose it to the world so all can see >years later turns out hollywood is full of pedos I dont believe in coincidences. this is literally "dont judge lest be judged" put into action.
Times like these makes me glad i walk with a bible every day in my pocket.
Luke Reyes
The 90's had some real bangers. I'd say it's definitely one from there. Maybe Schindlers List, Forrest Gump or Silence of the Lambs. I's be for Forrest Gump.
