The Deuce

God Bless David Simon for keeping this glorious man on screen.

Thoughts on The Deuce?

...

...

Sorry for shitty quality. It's a stream.

He was in one scene.

Keeps him alive to me. He might end up in more, too, who knows.

I just like him a lot as an actor. He was one of my favourite parts of Treme.

What's Lester's role in this? This is about the ny porn scene right

...

no one watches this show, it's shit they literally have to post maggie gyllenhal's tits for shock value to get people in these threads

Also OP, did you watch TD Season 1? Clarke Peters had a minor cameo in that too

Porn scene. Pimps. Prostitutes. Mafia. Typical 70s New York stuff, but with a David Simon elevation.

Right now he's only been in one scene and he's one of the main pimp's old mentor, it seems.

What does that have to do with my query?

>Cool Lester Smooth plays a pimp
welp. can't say i was surprised

Yup yup. It always makes me smile when I see him show up. He was in Damages, too, for a small (but important) role. Think he was even in Burn Notice.

I'm a couple episodes behind but I really enjoy it. But the 70s-80s Golden Age of Porn is one of my favorite areas of study. And I'm not just talking about fapping. Check out the Rialto Report podcast. Fascinating stuff. In fact, they even did some consulting work on The Deuce, and their most recent podcast episode is all about it.

>What does that have to do with my query?
>Don't respond to me or my posts ever again

lol fuck off m8

I'll check that shit out, thanks.
Also, it has based Slim Charles saying, "I just a shot a nigga. Come an get 'im."
Cheeky meta.

I enjoyed the first season, but I honestly don't know what the point of the show is.

Are you in the habit of enjoying things you can't follow?

this show is about misogyny. Dayum, it is subtle but not that much

Why did he do that?

I see it about the influx of capitalism, especially of Puritan pragmatism (and Jewish/Mafia influence) in New York. Which sort of gave a loaded shove to the booming 80s.

It's like the precipice of Prohibition closer to the repealing. This "dirty industry" opening back up to the people, but instead of alcohol/drugs it's porn. The Jewish director (Maggie's mentor guy), obvious Mafia influences, and how the money not only keeps it going but further cements other interests outside of Pimps/Druggies/Degenerates (like with the introduction of the PTA/Housewife blonde in the last episode)

...

...

Then in classic David Simon world-building he gives us these slowly unfurling characters (the weakest of the "major characters" so far being Miss College Daddy Issues) as they exist in a time/place that can be imagined and described, sure, but his detail and way of writing helps pull these characters from fictional enterprises into a proper (though imperfect) world.

Yes, I'm a Simon fanboy, even if I hate his twitter/politics he's still a damn fine writer.

That second scene was so fucking good. With how they framed it against her "getting into it" with Maggie's urging then she's getting others into herself.

You are a fucking moron.
The show is about the birth of the American porn industry in the 70s. It's based on true events and some of the characters are based on real people. It is not "about" misogyny unless you're some rabid freak who has to politicize every single god damn thing.

Jesus Christ I am so fucking mad right now.

Oh shit that dude looks like Jamie Gillis. Fucking legend.
