I don't think he was implying it wasn't, he could've been referencing his previous works with this pose. Though I personally think OP is just misguided

Cartoons have trends in art style. Jack, powerpuff girls, dexters lab and johnny bravo had about the same blocky art style but people aren't complaining about that anymore.
