too much of a parody to give a shit.

That dude is straight up Daisuke Jigen. Not even changed a little bit. I didn't know SJ was this blatant with their anime references...

...

I've never watched Lupin. Does this guy have a briefcase too?

No.

In essence, the thief is Jigen, but with Lupin's personality and modus operandi.

Jigen will just straight up shoot a dude with a revolver. His role in Lupin's team is to be the most reliably guy in the room with any firearm.

Lupin will use gadgetry and subterfuge to bypass traps and trick foes before he resorts to gunning people down.

He's good with a gun.

Quickdraw McGraw was actually in an episode.

I mean, it's Warner Bros. Hanna-Barbera characters are pretty much a trivial matter.

that color scheme is awful
>ginger Jigen with white suit

My favorite parody in the show.

>Samurai Jack, Persona, etc
>Every single detective in anime and manga

Why is it always Jigen and Zenigata instead of Lupin or Goemon?

When did Jigen get a red dye job?

Should I watch Lupin III or just movies?

Easiest way to get in is to watch random episodes of the red jacket series (Lupin' s various anime are distinguished by his jacket color, red being the second one) and the Ghibli movie "The Castle of Cagliostro." You could also check out the original comic books, the jankier green jacket series which was a landmark in Japanese tv animation, the recent blue jacket series, the various movies, and the spinoffs about Fujiko and the rest, but those are harder to get into without comtext.

I watched one movie of red jacket I guess. About some girl who thought she is his daughter or something, I don't remember that much tho.
Oh also time travel one

Yes.
No but it's really good, watch it.

best design

Some things never change.

Which movie is it btw, I don't believe I've seen that one.

He's pretty lame. He's a character made with references and swerves, and little else. He managed to drag down an issue of the comic, just by doing what he did in the show.

Most references are surface level. Jigen's a sly badass and Zenigata's goofy, so those parts of the characters gets referenced, and nothing else. Everyone else gets items or moments referenced - Lupin's jacket gets parodied, or Goemon's slashing, Fujiko's boxing glove honeypot, etc.

Lupin vs Detective Conan 2013.

Man, that show would have been so good, if they had actually come up with a good ending instead of one that makes you retroactively think you wasted your time.

It's just funny that those two tend to be more heavily lifted, and lifted more often than Lupin himself. Nabeshin wearing the jacket is nothing compared to just how many fucking Zenigata clones there are.

I didn't mind the ending so much desu, it's one of my favorite shows. Less wacky hijinks, more Monkey Punch feel, great art.

The spinoff movies are good too. Jigen's was at least, I still have to watch Goemon's because it's only been out for a couple of months and there's no subs yet, but it looks good.

youtube.com/watch?v=gzZwXU0_t6o

You're right, it is funny. I guess they're just easier to riff on, especially Zenigata.

Conan is overrated as fuck anyway. Should have crossed over with a better series. I'd kill for Lupin vs Black Jack.

Whoops, I thought you were talking about the Conan movie and not the recent series from the webm. My bad.

I enjoyed the journey. The episodes not entrenched in that owl plot are still very good in spite of that disappointing conclusion.

Conan's just fine, but it should have been more of a cat and mouse game with Lupin and him instead of just the usual "misunderstanding leads to team up" crap.

I would've watched it solely because of Fujiko's VA, god damn.

Agreed, both special and movie were a waste.

>Lupin X Neuro never

Jigen's gravestone was pretty good, though whoever was in charge of the previews could have done a better fucking job of not spoiling what would happen.

They felt pretty fun, just not the thrilling crossover the name implies. Of course, it'd be like having Inspector Gadget going up against Carmen Sandiego; it'd be fun, but ultimately rendered moot because you know Carmen is going to get away/escape just like Lupin.

I like Goemon's better. I hope they do more in that style desu.

Figured they'd do something with him given he only appears for like what, 3 seconds at the end of the Jigen movie?

They're all Fujiko's series movie spinoffs with the same director and art style. I reckon there'll be more when the whole group will work together at last.

They probably have at least one more with Lupin as the center focus just to make it each of the gang have their time in the spotlight. Wouldn't surprise me if they then follow that up with some killer boxset containing those movies and the complete Fujiko series.

You know, I could kind of see Layton taking on Lupin as something amusing, maybe with another appearance from Phoenix Wright to provide the legal hijinks alongside Zenigata.

The Lupin centered one would probably be the one with the whole gang united.

Post moar Fujiko.

God Fujiko is such a cock tease, in the comic she is much worse and its implied that she let him put it in her at least once.

Its such a good piece he needs seconds. Air tight.

This is spot on, I got in at the Ghibli movie like a lot of fans in America. The comic is a little hard to find in english since it already went into the second run but its worth it since each chapter is its own contained story in the same vain as Spy vs Spy.

...

...

It's nice how they're even brining back the Red Jacket show and the dub cast to finally finish it after all these years.

The cock tease of all cock teases, made worse by the fact that now she's voiced by Sawashiro. Jesus Christ.

It's in the anime too, I remember that in Twilight Gemini they have sex twice.

stealthy Sup Forums thread is stealthy

take this shit to

Technically the source was considered a comic since it was in comic strip format. It only got cataloged as a manga here in america is because people are stupid, and they decided to print it in manga format here in america. And don't give me that "There is anime shit" Because there is a Iron man, Supernatural, Count of Monte Cristo, countless german fairy tales, and many other western adapted anime.

So get your shit together and shove it right up your own ass, like right up there, right up in the deepest part.

That boxing glove will never not be funny.

>he doesn't know

They made a fucking toy.

And it's amazing.

Holy shit, that's incredible

I'm so glad we have the killjoy police on patrol. Can't have a thread ever naturally segue into any other topics.

>Nabeshin
In my country Lupin and Nabeshin had the same VA he died.
Lupin is more popular than any other show here, Dragon Ball included.

Thief came back in an issue of the Samurai Jack comic book. It was a pretty good issue.
Jack hires him to help steal an artifact.

Does that come from later series and movies? I'm only on the 3rd series (watching by release order). And it seems he is only good for driving, shooting (and missing), and reminding Lupin that Fujiko will back stab him.

Accuracy wise Lupin and Jigen seem to have the same average of hitting shit.

They better have made a fujiko with a boxing glove.

>Japanese-inspired American Cartoon during the Anime boom

At the time the episode first aired you would have to have known about Lupin the 3rd to get the reference, but that whole show was chock full of blatant references. That's what kept the show going half the time.

>reminding Lupin that Fujiko will back stab him
Tsundere. Everybody wants to fug Fujiko.

Damn it all, Negij.

I say start from the first TV series and work your way up. Most notable among the movies is Ghibli's Castle Of Cagliostro, which is also a favorite of mine. I'm a sucker for crossovers too, so the Detective Conan/Case Closed movies were a lot of fun for me too.

Every. Damn. Time.

This would be weird as hell, I'm sure.

Thanks for bringing this to my attention. I still need to see Jigen's Gravestone.

Incredible.

Cooler design.

>Technically
Weaboo Defense Force at the ready
>considered a comic
Straight outta Japan. And we only care about the anime, let's be honest. Otherwise, we'd be posting comic strips rather a character created by Japan to keep their viewers interested in a story based on a Western character (whom of which we are also not posting).

Lupin doesn't have any continuity besides references to older stuff so it doesn't matter what you watch or in what order. You can just go on wikipedia and read about who the main five characters and you'll be set. Just be aware that each incarnation differs in tone greatly.

The new blue jacket series was really good if you want to start with something recent. The movie Castle of Cagliostro is also very good but also different from the rest of the franchise. Red jacket series is the most popular and well known but it gets really tiring if you try to marathon it. Green jacket series was alright. Haven't seen pink jacket yet. Rest of the movies are a mixed bag ranging from amazing to awful. (Franchise has been going on for about 50 years. Not everything is going to be good.)

Source? I know they're bringing back the dub cast to do the Blue Jacket series, but I hadn't heard anything about finishing Red Jacket.

You are no fun!

Goddamnit, Nigel Thornberry.
What the fuck are you doing.

Neat. I really should read these. I only ever caught the Fem Scotsman issue thanks to Sup Forums.

If I had easy access to high quality versions of MonkeyPunch's comics you bet your sweet was I'd be talking about it.

Pink>Green>Red

>The new blue jacket series was really good if you want to start with something recent
Lupin also has two waifus in it.

They really need to reprint that or at least release it digitally. I'm tired of only having v1-3 and 6 of the first series and v1-3 of World's Most Wanted.

I can't find shit about either a continuation of Blue Jacket or what said. Anyone?

>redhead Jigen
DELETE

So should I watch dub or sub for Lupin?

Spikes design and personality are like 70% Lupin

He's more like a Lupin played serious who doesn't take shit from fujiko.

He's not really all that Lupin-like aside from the smug. Lupin is a goofball.

Lupin > Spike

Sub.

Their motivations and personalities are pretty similar if you ask me. Lupins desire to steal and Spikes reason for bounty hunting are the same: they like a challenge. Lupin was never as motivated by greed as he was by the thrill of it, and Spike constantly states he only goes after challenging bounties. Their design and animations are pretty similar: thin and lean, emphasizing speed and fluidity. Spikes shoes are a direct reference to Lupin as a source of inspiration. Lupin just also happens to be a thirsty goofball.

90's jim carrey would have been perfect for Lupin

Solid points, but I do have trouble divorcing Lupin from the goofball and womanizing elements. It's pretty central to his character.

God, this miniseries had incredible art.

I'm not saying they're exact matches but the inspiration is there.
In my warped little brain I like to think Spike might be distantly related of not directly descended from Lupin.

Both Jigen and Goemon's movies have the same art director.

They tried to do a Lupin VIII with their descendants.

It didn't take off for obvious reasons.

If by "obvious reasons" you mean "The LeBlanc Estate was not gonna deal with this lazy bullshit," sure.

>webm
That's how you make babbies, Goemon.

>Lupin threads on Sup Forums barely manage to get a few replies
>a Lupin thread on Sup Forums that wasn't even meant to be about Lupin gets 80+replies

I hope someone makes a Dirty Pair thread. Kei is best waifu.

Little girls don't like Lupin.

Which isn't crazy to expect since it was airing on Adult Swim during the time period.

Is it me, or does ol' Goemon look a bit thin here? I know he's never been beefy, but he looks almost malnourished.

>THE RAPE TRAIN IS SPRING LOADED!

>this much autism over ONE fucking non-Sup Forums thread

You must be a hit at parti-OH yea...

Really strange Genndy couldn't have canonized some of the comic stuff. I mean, there's a 50 fucking year gap, unless Jack lost the sword right after episode 52, they could have made some of the comic stuff canon and just nixed the final issue.

Implied? In the comics she lets him grope, undress, and sometimes is straight up gonna fuck him. she plays the femme fatale, but she actually has a soft spot for him and lets him fuck her once in a while, because despite the horny monkey antics, he's truly caring for her when she's not bitching.

You can't rape the willing.

But she's only willing when she's really feeling it.

Blue balling Lupin is her favorite pastime
