Disney wants Will Smith as the genie

Disney wants Will Smith as the genie.

variety.com/2017/film/news/will-smith-aladdin-genie-1202231874/

What is Disney's affinity for wanting to cast Will Smith in something? Dumbo, now this.

I'm sorry, Sup Forums. Robin Williams is dead. It's sad. Who would be a good replacement?

Wait, why does Genie need a new voice actor, what's coming out?

Why not just hire Robin Williams?

He's not doing anything these days.

Probably for KH 3 assuming it ever actually releases.

It's for the live action remake you fucking morons.

The Live Action reboot of Aladdin, you gotta read the link mate.

I would actually like to see Will play Genie, could be interesting.

They're making another Dumbo and Will Smith is going to be in it? Is he going to be one of the crows?

Disney started a new trend of using their old animated movies as creative ammo their live-action offerings.

I can't wait until 2027 when we have a "live-action" Zootopia. They're already making a "Live-Action" Lion King which is just going to be animated CGI lions on top of real footage of the savannah.

A-user... I don't know how to tell you this but...

>Robin Williams is dead. It's sad. Who would be a good replacement?

Will Smith

>Disney wants Will Smith as the genie.

..why?

>What is Disney's affinity for wanting to cast Will Smith in something? Dumbo, now this.
Who's he voicing in Dumbo? One of the Jim Crows?

He passed on the chance to work on Bad Boys 3.

Tim Burton is directing it. So far, Colin Farrell, Michael Keaton, Danny DeVito, and the lady from Miss Peregrine are in it.

The last sentence was about Dumbo not Bad Boys 3. I'm sleepy.

Is Disney just completely out of ideas for anything now? Maybe they should just make one final movie with nothing but fanservice and close.

> Wanting WIll Smith
> Not Dan Castellaneta

What the fuck were Bad Boys 1 and 2?

>What are we? Some kind of Aladdin?

Disney's live action movies have been shit for awhile now, so they've turned to remaking animated movies into live action.

>Dumbo
>Tim Burton

I'm gonna throw up

So wait. They're making live-action versions of Aladdin AND Dumbo?

Welp, I'm going to have mail some bombs to Burbank now.

If it's the same 1:1 sleeping beauty jus reuse his clips.

kek

They've still been making "original" stuff like Moana and the upcoming Gigantic, films based on classic tales and myths like they've always done, so they're not running completely out of steam. That new Wreck-It Ralph that takes place on the Internet is probably gonna be shit, though.

Actionkino.

...

This live action shit prints money. It's shocking that the MCU is only the 4th biggest money maker Disney have behind Star Wars, animated movies and LA remakes

They can't be stopped

>Gigantic
Well, the game is okay, so the movie must be amazing.

Disney is doing live-actions of The Lion King, Aladdin, Dumbo, Mulan, The Little Mermaid, Snow White, Prince Charming, Robin Hood, Tinkerbell, Winnie the Pooh and Night on Bald Mountain.

Plus Rose Red, Enchanted 2 and Happy Ever After.

HOL UP

>Night on Bald Mountain
How the fuck are they going to spread out a 10 minute animated musical number into a full length live action movie?

>and Night on Bald Mountain.

Well at least something will flop

Will Smith

as the slave of the lamp?

He certainly isn't, is he?

lazy bastard is probably just lying around somewhere, having not moved for a long time I bet

A lamp. Like The kind that have light bulbs?

That give off white light?

>White Light=White Power

Dear god.

...

He's in everything already. Will Smith is a good pick and they could just make Will his voice and have the model in-movie be a CGI version of the original Genie since the character is comic relief and doesn't have to obey any laws of reality so he can look however he likes.

You know, you can cast Terry Crews in just about anything and it works. Even for this.

I don't see a problem with Will Smith Genie. I do see a problem with the live action remakes in general though.

Poof WHATDOYOUNEED Poof WHATDOYOUNEED Poof WHATDOYOUNEED

They already have James Monroe Iglehart though.

Yes, the Borg of the industry is creatively bankrupt: WiR 2, Frozen 2, Zootopia 2.Live action remakes, Pixar sequels.Nothing but safe bets.
Mranwhile competition is a joke.
In short:
Creativity is Dead

...

They want to put a black man in slave bracelets and have him call a white guy mastah? Dafuq?

POOF. POOF. GENIE SPICE BLOCKS CREEPY OLD COOKS FOR 16 HOOOOUUURRRS!

It's the fucking Genie. Why not just use the Robi Williams lines and make Genie CGI?

The same way they turned a ten minute ride into four or five feature length movies.

Kek.

This. He's not Robin Williams but his rendition is pretty fucking great.

This is going to be as awkward as the lynching scene from Wild Wild West, isn't it?

Fuck this, I wanted James Monroe Iglehart from the stage show as the Genie.

The feelings and desires of the fans aren't what's important user.

So that's it huh? We're some kinda Aladdin

They wanted to do something similar with that furry movie:

youtube.com/watch?v=D3pF9owYlRI

Fucking Disney.

It's what Howard Ashman wanted.

He won a bunch of awards and is going to hamilton so his star is on the rise

too soon.

>One of the Jim Crows?
I can see that working.

That actually makes me feel better about the concept. I unironically enjoy the Pirates movies.

Stage actors never get anywhere in Hollywood. His movie career would be DOA.

He had something put in his will that bans anyone from using his voice or likeness for 25 years.

>robin williams
>Williams
>William S
>Will Smith
>Will Smith robbin' Robin

>'m sorry, Sup Forums. Robin Williams is dead. It's sad. Who would be a good replacement?

No one.

Looks like someone's about to pull a reverse Whedon and jump ship to the winning team

>They can't be stopped
Why would you want to stop them?

You have a problem with great movies or something?

Sorry - I already decided I wasn't going to see it after realizing they'd only include the songs and not the instrumental bits.

Aladdin has the best background music of any Disney movie. It's nothing without it.

youtube.com/watch?v=S18lp2cKIhY

doesnt the guy who voices Homer usually voice the Genie in stuff?

WE

ARE THE MAGIC LAMP

>Burton makes another unbelievably awful remake/reboot/adaptation that has nothing to do with the source material

Oh boy, how great.

Yeah well tough shit.

KH3 Genie would be played by Dan Castanella like the previous games.

Because Dumbo was so fucking fantastic to begin with.

I like Burton, only Burton does Burton. Charlie is still underrated as all hell.

>live action Zootopia

I wonder who the preds will be

ARE THE DEAD

If they must, T. J. Miller might be a better way to go.

I disagree I hated Carlie. It felt so disconnected and none of the characters felt possible. Like how could you get to that point of being terrible possible. And Charlie himself was perfect, which missed the point of the OG. Charlie was still a little shit like the others but did the right then when the time came, which is why Wonka gave him the factory. Not just because "he won and I'm old"

Yeah, why make a story about a chocolate factory feel like a fairytle? It should be grounded in reality and gritty.

>Zootopia 2
To be fair, Zootopia has enough potential within the world itself that the sequel has the very real chance of being fucking fantastic.

HOL UP
*smacks lips profusely*
*licks teeth and grins*

Whoa... Maybe they'll do a buddy cop sequel with talking animals.

>Not just because "he won and I'm old"
That's how it happened in the book, though (at least on the surface, in reality Wonka was just looking for someone who was a lot like him).

Personally I didn't care for the movie because I've never been a huge fan of "kids book but DAAAAAAAAARK", and I REALLY detested Depp's portrayal of Wonka. Willy Wonka is supposed to toe the lines between kooky old inventor, overgrown child and whimsical fairy, to which Depp jettisons straight into overgrown child territory. In the books, Willy Wonka might not have all the answers but at the very least he knows his own damn factory and actually gave a shit about the eventual fate of it, Depp's Wonka seemed more like a retarded kid who needed the Oompa Loompas to run everything because he didn't have a goddamn clue about how anything worked.

>Charlie is still underrated as all hell.
Oh, you're one of those faggots.

>Dull meaningless reply

Just like your life

>Just like your life
In the end you'll still like it, I won't and we'll both think the other is an idiot - no matter what either of us says.

Lion kings a quarter of a century old.

I'm sick of faggots like you acting like making a live action movie of a cartoon likely just as old as you are is blasphemous.

And this is another fucking dweeb. No story is original. Why would they close? You don't have to like the company to know that's the single most purely autistic thing that will be posted on all of Sup Forums today.

You're on FUCKING Sup Forums! TWO ENTIRE MEDIUMS BASED COMPLETELY ON STEALING OLD IDEAS!

How anyone can say "is all the originality gone" is beyond me. It's the most disingenuous fucking question ever. There's like 7 possible stories someone can tell and they were told a millennia ago.

A live action Lion King is no different from any other live action (protracted, really decimated) hero's journey flick.

WUZ GENIES N SHIET

Sauce to the stats of Disney's Money Makers?

>Dumbo
>Directed by Tim "EVERYTHING MUST BE DARK" Burton

FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCCCCCK YOU TIM! Nobody wants your emo goth shit anymore, go fap to Johnny Depp fucking your wife you one trick pony shit. Do not dare RUIN Dumbo.

>Who would be a good replacement?
For some reason my first thought was Steve Martin.

Uhh...

There are plenty of trippy fucking scenes in Dumbo. I actually completely understand that choice.

Last time they hired a black genie we got Shazam(or something like that), and it was not enjoyable

You know at first I was looking forward to Will making a goofy rap theme, but then I realized it'd just be an urban butchery of "Friend Like Me".

>Casting Will Smith...
Instead of the Big Aristotle?
What is Disney thinking?

Will he try to shoehorn his son in again?

have you seen the "making off"? , it also have a chance to be utter shit.

It's Disney's live-action films division that's creatively bankrupt. Everything else (Disney animation, Pixar, Lucasfilm, Marvel, etc.) is doing just fine.

Unfortunately, a lot of people are enabling the creative bankruptcy of live-action Disney remakes by paying money to watch them. They need to stop doing that.

It's gonna be the left vs the right.
Political war...

>Lion King

This, I'm actually excited about. I enjoyed The Jungle Book and was surprised by how violent it got. This will definitely be an advantage to The Lion King.

>Robin Hood

FUCKING FURRIES

Fuck sake just get the guy from the stage show in New York to do it.

Will Smith in 2018/9 won't make any noticeable bump in what the movie makes. The draw will be "hey it's that cartoon you loved but with real people".

But Tim Burton's not what I think of for that shit. I just think he's gonna go all black and white, goth shit all over.
