Poor MODOK.

I started rereading Gruenwald's cap by myself recently as well. It's a ton of fun.

Welcome back, PA.

Is this your favourite Cap run?

Yes
I also liked Classic waid and Jurgens runs

who embodied patriotism in a way that Captain America didn't—a patriotic villain. Basically, I just wanted to do the opposite of Steve Rogers. Okay, Steve Rogers is a poor northern urban boy. So I'll make a guy from rural middle class south. Cap is now old, so this guy'll be a real young up-and-comer. Cap has lofty ideals, so I'll make Super-Patriot be more realistic and more pragmatic. So, I put together his background and character traits by playing the opposite game.[2]

After a return appearance in Captain America #327, Gruenwald reintroduced him as the new Captain America in issue #333. Though Gruenwald said he would not have done this if it had not been a logical development from the preceding storylines, he also openly acknowledged that the motivating reason for replacing Steve Rogers as Captain America was to boost sales:

>Gruenwald

Best Cap.

Though looking at the past two threads, I'm kinda curious why you started with issue #307.

...

>>Gruenwald
>
>Best Cap.
Hell yeah. maybe in the future i do DeMatteis run.

...

...

Well, issue 307 is the first issue written by Gruenwald. Though it's true, the beginning is just him clearing up the table so that he can really going with the story he wants to tell.

Funny how times have changed, nowadays a new writer just straight up ignores everything he doesn't care about instead of taking the time to write off... then again, "time" is something modern capes don't have anymore.

...

>DeMatteis run.

Second best Cap. Plus Bernie, best Caplady.

But his run was right before Gruenwald, would have made sense to do his first.

Which brings me back to my original question, why start with issue #307? Seems random.
