The current Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles series is in its last season, and as some of you may have heard, a new one, Rise Of The TMNT, will take its place in 2018 (September, I'm told).

Not going to reveal in what capacity, but I worked on this last season a little bit, and its not without its perks. Namely, some of us got a sneak preview of the new show. Nothing in terms of animation or anything, just some concept art (pic related, but its all I have) and a few plot details.

What I know:

>2D animation, said to be in the vein of Teen Titans.
>More humor oriented than the last one, no clue to what extent.
>The turtles are going to have some sort of mystical powers. Think Ninja Tribunal from the 4kids series. From what I understand, it ties into their origin somehow, which is supposedly pretty different. They have stones in their belts that help them channel their energy. Probably a toy gimmick.
>The turtle designs are like Mirage meets the Michael Bay movies. Not my ideal versions to pull from but they look decent. They all look pretty similar except for Donny's goggles, Leo's got some armor, Raph has the du-rag like in the new movies, & Michelangelo's got some "cool" accessories.
>Splinter plays a much lesser role, didn't see his design.
>April is a teenager again, looks a bit like the current version but with really puffy pigtails and she's sorta chubby. And she has a sword.
>There is no Shredder in this series. Not sure if that's just at first or a permanent thing.
>Pizza is literally the turtles' biggest weakness now. They have to deal with how it negatively affects their focus and physical condition. Hate this idea. Pizza is a staple but it shouldn't be anything more than an occasional gag.
>No word on voice cast yet.
>There will be teasers at New York Comic Con, don't think they plan to reveal the actual designs until Toy Fair next year. Oops!

I don't think I know much else to say but if you wanna ask, give it a shot.

Is this supposed to be good in some strange way?
>Pizza
>Weakness

Oh jesus fuck that logo

Sounds dope enough to me.

Can't be worse than The Next mutation.

Yeah, pretty busy. I don't think that's final, though. We're over a year out, yet. They've only showed it off to a private licensing convention a month or two ago.

Yeesh. Is TMNT one of those things where only every other iteration is any good?

More or less. I'm hopeful for this despite the red flags, but I'm biased.

This "style" reminds me of how kids under 15 draw when they use the curved line tool in MSPaint. Yikes.

So it's literally TMNT Go?

Yep.
But the style looks interesting at least

holy shit this looks like its shaping up to be Nick's GO! series

Maybe not quite as silly, but close to that, yeah. If it sucks, at least there's still the comic. I'm behind, but its been a pretty good read!

Anyway, I've got to go to work, but if the thread doesn't die I might be able to come back later and answer a few questions!

I just hope it doesn't get done to death, in that case, seeing as TTG is getting a whole week (300 episodes) of airtime apart from some O.K. KO premiers. Then again, Nick doesn't have Vishnu.

thick April?

I'm out of loop - has TMNT stopped trying to be full on capeshit, or is it still full of time travel, multiverse shit and other overexploited sci-fi tricks?

>in the vein of Teen Titans.
Go!, or the older ones?

tmnt has been time travel, multiverse shit and over exploited sci-fi tricks since literally issue 5 of the original comics.

It won't. Kids will see it as a rip-off of TTG, and Nick will promptly dump it on to the Nicktoons network in favor of more SpongeBob.

I hate everything about this

Looks worse than I thought it would. But I will probably give it a chance.

>and she's sorta chubby.

THICC

Hey dipshit.
New show looks nothing like this. Did you intern back in early 2016?

Nick really doesnt spam cartoons anymore

>the style looks interesting
>interesting
That's one way of putting it.

Do you work at Nickelodeon?

Seeing that this is the only TMNT rdelated thread on the board...

What did you guys think of the newest episode?

>Jei's fakeout dream where he killed the turtles and eo crying over Mikey's corpse

I mean, isn't that kinda dark for a kids show? At least SAINW didn't show Donnie crying or anything.

Are you implying 2003 TMNT was bad?

Anyone wanna chek if this is fake?

>>Splinter plays a much lesser role, didn't see his design.
>>More humor oriented than the last one, no clue to what extent.

Not sure if want.

Also
>another turtle show
>never Usagi show

Nothing wrong with a little dark. Jei is a trip.

...

Do you have more pictures?

Maybe? The Laird/Eastman elements sort of interferes with the Calarts style.

It could be WORSE Sup Forums. Remember TMNT could be owned by Disney.

Why do shows with good visuals and more serious plots gets watered down to absolute cheap shit? Why is this a constant cycle?

Because the intended demographic has no standards. They'll eat up any shit. And because comedy needs less animation budget? Well there's the motivation for the network suits as well.

This is why shit like Ice Age is more profitable than constant motion and action like Kung Fu Panda.

Cheaper to make and they're hoping to get a larger kid demographic I suppose.

They Teen Titans'ed TMNT?

Wait...
Okay, so, OG TMNT comics = Good (ish)
87 Cartoon = Bad But still good, got the franchise out there.
1st Movie-Good
2nd-Almost good,
3rd- Bad.
Next Mutation- Oh god, was it bad
03 Cartoon- Good but controversial
TMNT- Missed Opportunity
Nick TMNT- Great

Not sure how this applies to the comics, but... it almost works.

>Nick TMNT- Great

No. Just because the next TMNT cartoon looks like Teen Titans Go shit? That doesn't mean you can now say "Nick TMNT is great!" Fuck you for trying.

Very annoying unnecessary Love Triangle, Casey, Mikey are disgustingly annoying and even Donnie gets obnoxious with his MUH APRIL.

What else? Oh yeah the shallow flat constant homages to the first TMNT cartoon that does nothing for this new one. Constant repetition of story arcs...let's save April's Dad. Let's save Karai. Let's save April's Dad again. Let's save Karai....again. Karai is mutated but her mutation is such a Non-Factor it's not really a tragedy at all.

Splinter being Karai's father was also retarded because if she's his kid? Why does he NOT do anything to save her? Does he not care because that's the impression they give by having Splinter chill doing nothing about Karai.

And April? The literal most overpowered Mary Sue in this series who is blatantly Phoenix from X-Men. Fuck that abomination of a Gurl Powah attempt.

Did I miss anything else? Because this cartoon sucks. They even ruined the Yojimbo episode by having it be about protecting an obnoxious shitty unlikable Scrappy Doo tier of brat. So try again, Nick TMNT is garbage.

D animation, said to be in the vein of Teen Titans.

In the vein of Teen Titans or Teen Titans Go!?

This

A llorar al parque, user.

Based on the artstyle, I'd say GO.

He's right you know.

Usually the season finales were the best episodes, Tales of the Yokai was good too. When they finally killed Splinter and had the final battle against Shredder was a good episode too.

I'd definitely put 2012 in the good category rather than the bad one, despite its flaws. Mainly because the bad half of ninja turtles is really, really bad.

>When they finally killed Splinter

Yeah, but it lost almost all of its impact because they'd fakeout killed him at least 3 times before. By the time they actually got around to doing it for real, the audience was burned out on "oh no Splinter's DEAD" as a big emotional investment.

>>Pizza is literally the turtles' biggest weakness now. They have to deal with how it negatively affects their focus and physical condition. Hate this idea. Pizza is a staple but it shouldn't be anything more than an occasional gag.

Property that elevated the item to a level of a national staple is going to play it as a negative.

I mean there is one thing like 2003 when it was much less focused than the 80s series. But actually making it a negative akin to the Ooze of the 80s iteration (Just guessing how it'll be used) seems rather silly.

Job opening for a designer is still out on the Nick site. So maybe somehow able to fix some of these biggest errors.

Didn't the writing staff change in season 2? Plus the horror parodies at April's getaway house, and the space episodes felt like they went on forever. As for April... she's part Kraang, right? And that shard they got in one of the space episodes just made her stronger or something? I'm not really a fan of her character progression, it does feel kinda Mary Sue-ish. There's nothing wrong with her having psychic abilities or anything, I just wish they went a different way in doing it.

Fuck yes, now CN won't run out of things to fill up 96% of their broadcast schedule!

TMNT peaked with the first movie in 1990

They really should have changed the death in season 3. Just have him pushing Shredder into the black hole or something.

>Didn't the writing staff change in season 2?

Season 1, actually.

That's why there's that big change between the seasons; season 2 is when the show went into full throttle "revive characters from the 80s cartoon instead of doing anything original" mode.

I only agree with the love triangle. Thank goodness since season 4 they practically have left it aside, but in season 2-3 it was shit.
About April with powers, I have to be the only one who actually like the idea of a Jean Grey April here. I like her being powerful

What bugs me the lost about the love triangle is that they had an organic narrative point to end it during the Northampton arc, but they chose to prolong it instead. Like they're so afraid of changing any of the character dynamics.

The bigger issue was that it made April look like a cunt. She kisses Donnie, calls him "her turtle", giggles and flashes him bedroom eyes. But then the next episode she goes back to acting like she has no idea he likes her and keeping him at a distance. It made April come off as a manipulator, stringing Donnie along so she can keep him in the palm of her hand, or perhaps she just likes seeing guys fight over her, because she treats Casey with the same aloofness.

Either way, it reflected poorly on April as a character because the writers didn't think it through.

ciro said years ago there is a planned end point for this situation, but they didn't exactly know how to charging it.
I think they're not afraid, it's just they have something on mind with the Donnie-April-Casey thing for the end of the show and until then they don't want to make any big progress I think.

I like it too. Dat ass was also a plus.

Of the 3 cartoons, it's still the one I enjoyed most, having only just gone through them all for the first time (not counting what I barely remembered from the 80s version when I was a kid). The 2003 one was actually kinda disappointing after how much people recommended it.

>Plus the horror parodies at April's getaway house, and the space episodes felt like they went on forever.
Being able to watch an entire arc in one evening probably helped a lot there.

I pray to god you are just another shit posting liar.

this sounds worse than licking muckman's oozing mushroom-covered nutsack

They're doing an okay job with the Star Wars and Marvel movies. Granted I don't know how involved "Disney" is, but they own them. They'd probably do a better movie than Platinum Dunes did?

it would be a solid movie but considering doctor strange and civil war, you can count on disney to make something horrifically generic out of one of the most unique IPs out there

>They're doing an okay job with the Star Wars and Marvel movies.

Wat?

I mean they'd probably go a "safer" route and safe is probably better than the PD movies. We'd probably be looking at pretty much the 1990 movie but with motion capture? MAYBE have some cool villains. Not sure if they'd be more like Mirage or 1987 cartoon.

Yeah, the Marvel films are good and TFA was good. I suppose Rogue One was not as good as TFA but it was pretty good.

not really... i mean its simple and goofy like a lot of other stuff but it doesnt resemble anything specifically

>the absolute state of western animation

>i mean its simple

*I mean it's simple

>They all look pretty similar except for Donny's goggles, Leo's got some armor, Raph has the du-rag like in the new movies, & Michelangelo's got some "cool" accessories.

That's a bit disappointing. The best part about the last series was how they were all different physically to prevent confusion. It gave them more personality that way.

Please be trolling. PLEASE be trolling.

Oh fuck, that's so stupid you must be telling the truth. Fuck.

It would be a shame, as it's easier to see them as characters instead of recolored templates.

most western cartoons nowadays are either a parody of something or some sort of Johnny Test

So it's TMNT in the TTG style? Disgusting

I did wonder if they were using those recent shorts to experiment with different styles for the next series.

That's the worst. Even having different eyemasks is pushing it

I'm guessing its like how Monterey Jack on Rescue Rangers would go crazy for cheese.

Thanks to that first volume of Mirage Comics, TMNT is one of those franchises you can do anything with and it wouldn't be out of place.

In their own comic they did everything from grim and gritty to Felix the Cat levels of surreal slapstick.

This show concept is fine. As long as they are fun action oriented.

I like the differences to be subtle. The current show does it just at the limit.
From 1984 to 2003, we were perfectly able to tell the turtles apart without one being giant, one being boney, one having a physical deformity...

They were, yeah. At one point word was they were going to go with Turtles Take Time, I think it was called, but I guess they wanted to stray from the other series a bit more. They almost went with the Breadwinners styled one, dodged a bullet there.

It should be fun, but I'm not confident about action. Can't have TMNT without some, but I get the impression they're trying to move from the violence.

>literally Teen Titans Go
DAMN IT

>implying they won't ramp up even more TTG airings to combat this Nickelodeon show

>not going full b&w Mirage mode

Looks like we get some trash even worse than that 80's Cowabunga Pizza turtles.

Hows it feel being part of the team that ruined TMNT?

I hope one day you lose the love of your life in a very tragic accident, preferably a house fire.

>Hows it feel being part of the team that ruined TMNT?
Where did OP say he worked on the Platinum Dunes films?

TMNT was ruined in 1987.

& you are a dramatic man-baby, golly.

Do April and Donny fuck?

>Tfw the great CG show is ending and getting replaced with what looks like TMNT GO!

D animation, said to be in the vein of Teen

Stopped reading.
Don't care.
All interest immediately lost to the abyss.

I would've been pissed is she ended with Donnie. Dude was nothing but a creepy loser we're supposed to sympathize and find adorable.

>TMNT GO!

brb gonna kill myself real quick

yes.

Nice joke op i bet you drew that ,if they really wanted to make a new TMNT they would use one of the hundreds of animators who made TMNT shorts

>Nick's answer to TTG

Fuck. To be fair, a more humor oriented show works better for TMNT I feel, doesn't mean I have to be happy about it though.

Disney made YFA, so I'd say they're doing a pretty shit job.

Yes.

This looks like TMNT GO.

>that art style
>same vein as TTG

Why dear god...

youtube.com/watch?v=mCuMfm03nFI

They had cool shit like this and that's what they went with.

>TMNT Go!
Oh no

>I'm guessing its like how

*I'm guessing it's like how

>nick is dedicated to ruining everything they own
i stand by this
