How so? If anything, having few options would do that. Not everyone who wants original characters wants romance and furry drama, not everyone who wants only game characters wants the book to be focused on comedy, etc.

It's more like it was their last chance at saving things. All the non-game stuff brought conflict and drama that Sega was getting fed up with. So first they kill off the Penders characters, but it doesn't seem to help, the next step was to try and justify a reboot.
Idw is shit and I don't know why everybody is so excited about this.
6-12 is the best choice.
The mlp comics were their chance to get kids back into comics and they fucked it up.

"Microwave" is an exaggeration but Locke did expose Knuckles (as an unhatched egg) to radiation from a Chaos Emerald as a precaution against visions he had of the world ending, or something like that. Knuckles's knuckles are a side effect of that

As long as Eggman can occasionally be still be incredibly threatening, I'm all for this.
Not him but it was a bit of an issue for Sally to have most of her family and previous character development wiped out by the Pendering. Penders created her mom and brother, with Alexis having taken over as king some time before Flynn came on board. The fact that Sally had to deal with the idea that maybe she wasn't destined to be the political leader of the restored house of Acorn was a genuinely interesting idea (even if Bollers and Penders of course executed it in a kinda shit way). There was a distinct nuance to having Sally as the tough, practical freedom fighter while Alexis, Alicia and to some degree Maximilian represented other ideals. Of course when naugus took over Alexis got the Secret Freedom Fighters together instead and became much more hands-on, but that was also wiped out by the Pendering.
After the reboot Sally just didn't have much left. She was back to roughly the point she was before they discovered Alexis existed, but in a much nicer and more clean universe than the previous once, which didn't allow her much room to grow.
Also, and I hate to say this, I think Nigel (the Reboot king acorn) not being kind of a jerk or at least irrational lead to him being a mostly dull character to have around, since he barely had any good character hooks to him.

I'm mainly into Sanic characters for the stylish designs, of which the Reboot-FF's looked great and finally fit within the Adventure-onwards design template.

His cowardice was a bigger deal pre reboot, it made when he actually nutted up and became a badass really meaningful. The first thing he does post reboot is spin dash through robots with no character development whatsoever.

If you take Ian's entire run, he doesn't change. Antoine's development, which aside from The Map is mostly off camera, came in early. From about issue...I'd say 75 to 290 he is the same shit. Rarely does anything, occasionally gets a callback to being skittish, fights something sometimes, dotes on Bunnie. Aside from Tails' Adventure that's pretty much fucking it. He was terribly utilized overall and implying his character changed post-reboot when the only thing he did from 200 to 247 was getting fucking rekt is ludicrous.

Honestly I woundn't mind if they kept the Freedom Fighters and the SatAM/AoStH mythos, only if IDW stopped make the comic canon so focused on them.
They're better off as C-listers in the Sonic universe.
