Godzilla: King Of The Monsters Storytime

I'm bored. You're online. Here's Marvel's Godzilla.

Bump if you're reading.

Remember when Gojira arriving in America was a concept that excited people?

...

The amount of ads is crazy, so this'll probably be the last one I include.

...

The captcha just asked me to draw around a street sign. These things are getting ridiculous, couldn't they just get you to clear a line in tetris or collect ten dots in pac-man or something that's actually fun?

...

...

Okay, I lied. This ad was absolutely ridiculous and I had to include it.

All said and done, 18 of the pages are adverts. When you don't account for the cover, that's only 17 pages of actual comic.

...

...

...

...

Four pages of ads straight.

Anyone reading?

...

...

Another quick ad break.

...

And that's it for issue one. I'll continue if anyone wants me to, or if I get bored again before this thread hits the archive.

Thanks for the storytime OP
Never knew this existed but its a great read

Thanks, user. Here's issue two.

Fun fact: the icon in the top left became Godzilla's official copyright icon, which are basically Toho's equivalents to things like the Nintendo Seal Of Quality.

Here's a list of them: godzilla.wikia.com/wiki/Copyright_Icons

...

...

Here's the first appearance of kaiju that aren't Gojira. Sadly, all the other kaiju in this are original creations, so no Ghidorah or Mosura.

...

bumping for OP

Here's the best superhero.

Captcha is making me put in a lot more work now.

Thanks, user

the art's the best part

70s comics legend Herbe Trimp in full Kirby-homage mode

...

...

I'm not actually sure I've read much of his stuff beyond Hulk and this. He is a great artist though.

Five captchas in a row this time.

Can we just appreciate the simile of "Might as well try to fill the Grand Canyon with spit"?

...

...

...

...

...

Too bad Cap and Spider-Man don't have capes for those stunts

And that's issue two. The captchas are beginning to get on my nerve with how elaborate they're getting, so I'll probably stop for now.

Here's an ad, just because.

Even ignoring that, I don't think Superman pretends to be an airplane when he files.

It is kind of funny to think that they thought Cap and Spidey were the two most marketable ones when Iron Man, the one who would have made more sense, doesn't even get one.

Neat read. Thanks OP.

Every time I say I'm going to take a break, I come right back. The ads are omitted from the scans in this issue on, which is nice.

...

This is all canon to the Marvel universe. One would assume that it isn't so much to the Showa universe.

...

Gojira has oddly moeblob eyes in that first panel there. It's kind of uncanny valley.

...

...

...

...

...

...

I've got to give Doug Moench credit. As a hobbyist writer, I can tell you writing about kaiju is far more of a challenge.

...

...

...

And that's issue 3. I'm off to play some video games now.

Bump

I am.

I return. Thanks to and for holding the fort in my absence.

This time, we get to see him go up against a kaiju for real.

>tfw I owned this as the essential marvel Godzilla
>never knew what it looked like in color til now
I'm not disappointed, either. This shit's lit.

One would assume the name was a fusion of Battra and Baragon, but the former didn't appear until 15 years after this was published.

I feel that maybe the colours are a bit too vibrant on Gojira, which is part of the reason he isn't looking his normal self so much. That and his head having some weird spines on it.

...

Has anyone here been reading USAvengers? Is U.S. Kaiju still around?

...

And now another ad break. Maybe it's just because I'm not American, but I've never heard of Clark bars before. What are they like?

...

...

...

...

...

...

...

...

This is obviously supposed to be Rodan and Mosura. It's a shame the latter couldn't appear in proper, she's my favourite kaiju by far.

...

...

The villain in that particular hostess ad is probably one of the weirder designs I've seen. It reminds me of a villain design in something like Stardust The Space Wizard.

And that's issue four. As per, I'm going to take a break between issues. If you want me to keep going, be sure to keep the thread bumped so that it doesn't hit the archive.
