It’s a dishonest film because it doesn’t accurately portray the porn industry. The person Dirk is based on, John Holmes, died penniless and was forced to do gay porn at the end of his life because he had burned lots of bridges from his drug habit. He died from aids which he git from the gay porn... PTA glorifying a soulless business isn’t just dishonest - it’s dangerous since it might lead more people into that trap.

It’s honestly a disgusting film.

I found this movie incredibly boring and wasn't able to finish it.
dat heather graham scene tho

>because it doesn’t accurately portray
This is honestly the most retarded criticism I've seen. Are Shakespeare's historic plays shit because they weren't true to reality?

Two completely fucktarded opinions from different perspectives. If anything, it shows how empty the porn industry is.

It's kino desu. shows PTA's versatility. Felt like watching a Coen film for me

You thought it was a complete ripoff of Goodfellas, but with porn stars instead of gangsters.

PTA directly addressed that in the interview rounds he did for Boogie Nights. He decided to end the film in the early 80s before the scourge of AIDS hit because he thought that would make the movie, which already ends on kinda bleak tone, way too depressing, and it would probably add another hour to a three hour movie.

>glorification of the industry
>ok times are bad now (but never horribly bad)
>oh it’s a happy ending
How is that not being honest compared to what actually happened?

>and it would probably add another hour to a three hour movie
it would be kino if that would've happened

*dishonest

Not an excuse. He could have cut away lot of other unnecessary stuff to make the runtime manageable.

You actually think Dirk Diggler was going to "make it" in the end? He was on his way to becoming addicted to coke again, probably alcohol, his porn career ending due to the video revolution and an overdose in the bathroom

>oh it’s a happy ending

It's not, really. Dirk is still stuck doing porn -- hell, most of them are. They're basically back where they began.

It's kino. His best movie.

>Heather Graham going back to school
nah fuck off
shit ruined the ending desu

No, she's writing the GED exam again. She's back at square one like everybody else.

And where they began was abusive, dysfunctional relationships.
You really didn't get this movie.

Soy-Sup Forums cant even just say what they thought of a movie.

It ended on a happy note though. Do you think the audience thought that?

It’s very sugarcoated. The reality was much much worse. That is the film is dishonest.

No you didn’t get it.

But that's essentially how the movie ends, you fucking brainlet. He's washed up.

No you brainlet. The reality of John Holmes was much much worse. This is sugarcoated and it ends on a high note. Tricking the audience or at least a significant part of the audience into thinking that it might work out after all or that it won’t be that bad.

It’s a deeply dishonest and immoral film and you’re a brainlet.

Wonderland is better

It wasn't a John Holmes biopic, first of all. It was also a work of fiction, and it was a choice to end it on a bittersweet note. The trajectory of Dirk's life after the credits roll is implied. It already showed him at rock bottom, and the viewer is made to believe that his situation at the end is only a temporary reprieve.

Show, don't tell.

>No you didn’t get it.
>No you brainlet.

Thank you for the chuckle.

It was the best Scorsese film not made by Scorsese. It was a better Scorsese film than Casino.

this
he didn't make the movie as a John Hughes biopic, he was merely based off the actor.

>Ahh that's just Cosmo...he's Chinese.

Incidentally PTA launched his career ripping off Casino.

It’s not an accurate portrayal of the industry. That’s the point. And no it ended on a high note and it ended much better than it would have ended for the average person involved in that industry. Certainly someone like Dirk.

It was propaganda to paint the industry in a better light. The porn industry is a jew dominated industry and the film industry is a jew dominated industry. Gee I wonder where the connection is.

Boogie Nights is a dishonest film and probably a purposeful piece of propaganda. Although, I’m sure PTA didn’t see it that way, but his jew bosses did.

It's more Bob le Flambeur than Casino.

Please have sex

>everybody is broken inside
>can't escape the life
>they're stuck and unhappy
>it's a pro-porn propaganda because it's not some Precious-tier misery porn

no

Best fucking actor in this.

PTA is somewhat of a prodigy for making this at he age of 24.

And don't have children.

>happy ending that negates all the conflicts that occurred prior
>everything is swell
what a waste of 3 hours

I think that's about the median age range most directors make some of their best films. Orson Welles made Citizen Kane at just a year older.

Please go back to re ddit.

>spends the first half of the film glorifying that life
>downturn
>going back to that life now... what will happen?
Yeah no you’re projecting and PTA is a ha ck for not giving the industry an honest portrayal. He has gotten a lot of criticism for it too.

i liked hard eight

Objectively false

>Please go back to re ddit.
Never been there, dipshit.

Anyone have a webm of the cuck scene?
youtube.com/watch?v=znwh41szei4

I haven't read them, but if they are dishonest then yes, they must be shit.

ironically it's a dishonest criticism. he could've just written "something something jesus"

>found the autist
>watches Top Gun
>”that’s not a realistic portrayal of the Navy”
It’s a story about broken people clinging together to try and form some version of “family” using the backdrop of the porn industry. The same story has been told countless times; the porn background takes it to a new level. Broken people, thrown together, form a bond, searching for something to fill the empty spots in their lives.
