do you like Fight Club (1999)

>first watch: fight club is the best movie ever made
>second watch: fight club is a deep commentary on the dangers of consumerism
>third watch: fight club is a disgusting cesspool of toxic masculinity and it’s not as deep as its fanboys think it is
>fourth watch: fight club is a critique of toxic masculinity and it’s deeper than its fanboys think it is
>fifth watch: fight club is the best satirical gay romcom ever made

Why can Griffith detractors ever give any criticism besides "boring"?

I( haven't seen any decent critical Griffith review. Most of the time they're just literal, as in they can only take everything at face value (i.e. dropout_bitch)

Dropout_bitch really said the only 2 visually good scenes in Lincoln were the ones where he navigated the camera between spaces.

Every scene of Lincoln is the mastery of tableau, ultimately reined. He has managed to sustain and create the only moving picture by moving laterally, masking cuts and fades on continuous movement. Peter Bogdanovich said he learned that from Hawks, Grifith invented and mastered it. Andrew Sarris took note. The crane shot of Susan Alexander's bar that hides the switch through cut through the lightning was stlen from Lincoln. Same as the fade "disguised" by the rain. Griffith's fades are better disguised by wind.

Attached: griffith moving tableaux equilibrium lincoln.gif (238x204, 3.98M)

This is all this damn keyboard. The Susan Alexander crane shot I'm referring to is the one from Citizen Kane.

Another thing to note is the specifics of the laterality of LIncoln's camera movements. What Kubrick achieved through the zooms in Barry Lyndon, Griffith achieved better through Lincoln. There aren't any abrupt cuts from action to calm scenes to expansively show differential. Lincoln moves left and right, but Lincoln never moves up.

The only time he moves vertically, he moves down. (pic-related)

Dropout_bitch said it was all about the "unimpeachable greatness" of Lincoln, but once again that's him only reading literally and he contradicts himself heavily in the review where he says the film gives no weight to Lincoln's actions and often SKIPS "major" historical events.

This is why literary majors will never understand Griffith. They are visually illiterate. The image contains over 1000 words. 24+ frames a second for framerates. How can they manage that when they're so busy concentrating on the "narrative"?

Attached: Griffith examines with assurance.gif (360x270, 3.87M)

>narrative
Griffith discarded and mocked that LONG ago.

Compulsive self-destruction.

How surreal

An advanced species, advancement circulates back to regression

The ape society considered primitive, modernism is the reduction and simplification of form and language

Modernism, simplification and reduction, advancement through enhanced abstraction

The voids and illusions covering the hub of the mutant species. Metaphysical control, media.
