Franco-Belgian / Eurocomics Storytime

Oliver Davis
Oliver Davis

Hello you fine folks, how are you all doing today? I'm off work laid up in bed sick, so I thought why not do a storytime? I don't know if it's a great time for storytimes in the US, but fuck it, let's do it.

So I've just finished scanlating the final volume of a 3-part eurocomics series called Eternum. I don't want to give too much away, but it's got strong hints of Prometheus and The Fifth Element.

The writer is Cristophe Bec, who you might remember as doing Promethee (I will never understand why they didn't just call it Prometheus in English, I guess maybe to avoid confusion with the Aliens-verse one), Carthago and Sanctum. The artist is Jaouen who hasn't done too much besides, there was a rip recently of an adaptation of Jack London's Son of the Sun which he drew, I really like his art.

As always, please don't hesitate to comment, make suggestions, etc.

Oh, and as always, the download link for volume 3 will be put up in the win'o once I have made corrections, not in this thread, so don't go asking for it. If you want volumes 1 and 2 you can search the archive, they will have been put up in the win'o, but I don't remember if I got proofreadanon to look through, so there may or may not be fixed versions released along with vol 3.

Anyway, let's get to it.

Personally really like the ancient aliens' spacesuits and tech, I love that biotechnological look, again, like the Alien universe

Nice

the laxatives are coming
Good God! Do you see that?!

This last panel is pretty ripe for an out-of-context thread.

Kevin Baker

I don't really like Bec, Sanctum and a series I translated called Absolute Zero were really the only books of his I liked, though the latter is ripped off from like a dozen sci-fi movies. This one just lured me in with the art and volume 1

Quick question, what's the name of that Euro comic where giants who created humans and resemble huge ancient greeks wind up on a desert planet and accidentally create a race of psychic lizards who stop them from escaping called again?

Anyone remember that?

Temple of Time or something like that. Monogamy was frowned upon in the culture of the giants.

Hudson Wright
Hudson Wright

That was the temple of the past: https://www.mediafire.com/folder/bef176pgb68w0/The_Temple_of_the_Past

I think it was being straight that they didn't like #politicalcorrectnessgonemad

So that's it, what did you think?

I'll be honest, I wish I hadn't bothered. This is typical Bec, he lures you in with a great concept with so much potential, and then you get to the end and it's just wasted, you're just left with disappointment.

Unless he pulls off something fucking amazing, this will be the last Bec comic I translate.

Adam Johnson
Adam Johnson

This one was mostly fine. Bunker, on the other hand, was "wasted potential: the comic".

I dig your stuff and big fan of Bec.

Am I missing something from Bec?

Will you keep doing Seuls even now it seems there is an official release?

And if you are disappointed with Bec, read Siberia 56 and Best Job ITW, might end up liking it. S56 is a bit the same old Bec, BJITW is sort of...

Get well soon. and if you need something to translate i have Atlantis, 666 and ApocalypseMania all in French

Jordan Perez
Jordan Perez

Yep, read Bunker. Big disappointment, but I think it was one of his early scripts.

Still loving his ongoing work Carthago , Prometheus (finished ?) and Olympus Mons.

Fulgur seems a Carthago wannabe.

Jack Stewart
Jack Stewart

Am I missing something from Bec?

I think Humanoids released Sarah, Sosich scanlated a two-parter called Lancaster, and then there's Deepwater Prison, I think that's it for English releases.

Will you keep doing Seuls even now it seems there is an official release?

I mean it depends on how far behind the official releases are and when I can get rips/scans of the French, but I'm leaning towards yes, because I absolutely love the series. I might consider doing something like Ouash did and translating the pages from Spirou every week when it's getting prepublished.

Eh, I did read Siberia 56, wasn't impressed. Best Job in the World seems like it might be interesting, but I've been burned before, you know.

Prometheus (finished ?)
Still ongoing after 16 volumes of meandering going nowhere.

Reporting in. Dunno when I'll have time though. Weekend at the latest so it'll probably be a paste in the win-o.

TY for the answers. Will wait for Seuls . Really dig your work

Didnt liked Underwater Prison.

Btw found 2 more Becs while looking for Lancaster:

http://europeanclassiccomic.blogspot.pt/2016/05/darkness.html

and The Shadows of Salamanca 1. Sarah (Digital) (Humanoids)-

Both seems more horror than the usual Bec Sci fi

Is it because the characters are clichés? Because as compelling as this story is, all the characters are clichés.

John Ross
John Ross

I don't inherently have a problem with clichés. Someone can be a cliché, or rather, an archtype, and still be an interesting character. Problem is these characters were boring and poorly fleshed out.

Then it's probably marked wrong, if it's Sosich it's a (absolute dog shit tier) scanlation.

There are rips of this out though, but it's not great.

Ethan Nguyen

Thanks for your time and effort, OP.

I'm only at half the first tome but I'm going to stop there. This is just badly written. The art is great but the bad narration also fucks the layout.

Connor Gonzalez
Connor Gonzalez

No, my fault while naming the rar file. Multitasking half a sleep while looking at a comic has this things

Darkness (Tenebres) it is also Bec, Sosich scanlation. You have the link above ,so I was on the fence on what to link and share easily
