I think its somebody in the government trying to see how widespread the knowledge is of our home turf vulnerability.
This has been disproven a bunch of times.
All an organized group has to do is go (physically) hit the Power Grid's weak spots and the military is halfway fucked.
The military and the air force are also fucked on their home turf too, because they dont train for rural fighting in temperate regions like ours.
The infrastructure is crumbling and the only bridges that can reliably have a Tank drive across them without collapsing are Railroad bridges.
And because the Air Force relies on supply lines they're fucked on their home turf too and with the economy being destroyed (which it would be) they wont be getting resupplied.
Those drone strikes and bomber raids are only going to be directed at anybody who's stupid enough to try to attack an Air Base. They'll be huddled up in there like scared rats and the only reason they'll launch a damn thing is to defend themselves.
Maybe the civilians dont have missiles to shoot down the aircraft but they'll run out of fuel at the base, and they'll stop flying missions quickly when the fuel gauge starts to even look like its decreasing.
(no, the fuel trucks will not be moving, and they will be a high priority for resistance people to hit or get their hands on)
