Wew, 9gag just owned you and your meme hero :^)

Guess he's out of business

His whole point was to make other people develop the drug cheaper.
Didnt he directly say that he shouldnt have a monopoly on it?

>essential drug
Essential for what? A life of random unprotected gay orgies?

Except those ausfags don't have rights to the drug. Nothing will be affected.

They didn't have to pay for clinical trials and R&D

so what?
he owns the drug right?
it's not like they can sell it

no this is whats known as Capitalism in progress

I'm sure the FDA and DEA would love it if a bunch of highschoolers were selling homemade pharmaceuticals

This. The drug was cheap af to make already. Thanks for the patent system, statists.

Imagine the mess pharma would be if you didn't need production licenses.

>mfw the free market lowers prices %6,000,000
leftists btfo

Active ingredients can be made easily on your own
Try to sell them and see what happens

>we counterfeited drugs
Amazing.

The media made him to look like a complete cunt. Sure, what he did was purely to make more money but who fucking wouldn't in his situation. Anyways, if you have healthcare, the drug he jacked up is still widely and easily available to get, also at a very low cost. He jacked up the prices so other vendors and companies have to deal with that price hike, not consumers. People who blindly believe the media should off themselves.

>Holds a monopoly.
>Uses that to financially elevate himself.
Besides the fact he held a monopoly in the first I see nothing wrong with this, it sparked innovation and made some Asian kids (and token chick) very happy.

He's already selling Deraprim at $1 per pill for those who don't have insurance.

Also, you have to go back.

>Implying they can mass produce it.

But the drug has already been made by other people, it just wasn't produced commercially.
Indians make them for pennies btw

What is a patent?

>meme hero

he's a mildly entertaining mincy attention whore albanian fagit

he's a shitposter

Godamnit

we need more jews

>but who fucking wouldn't in his situation.
Non-psychopaths.

Fun fact, if your annual income is at least 6 digits, you most likely have some variation of antisocial personality disorder.

Those Australians can't sell their $2 drug in the US thanks to the FDA. It's also thanks to the FDA that R&D plus approval costs run well into the millions for every new drug, costs those Australian students don't have to bear.

...

Didn't he do that because the current AIDS drug is harmful as fuck, but there wasn't a way to earn enough money for R&D for a better drug because it was so cheap?

They already sell that drug in Australia for 2$ so who fucking cares?

They wouldn't be able to sell it here because of the closed distribution system. They'd have to pay millions to have studies and push it through the FDA.

>9gag
you need to go back , also Sup Forums is the wrong place , we're against pharmaceutical jews.

Basically he raised the price to have insurance companies foot the bill and give it free to those who can't afford it
But liberals went apeshit and said he was Hitler

>Those socks/shorts
Work safe apparel/10.

I thought the drug was for parasites like toxoplasmosis, not aids.

Pharmaceuticals are not a free market though since patent laws, distribution rights, and regulations basically give pharmaceutical companies free reign over the market to ensure high prices of medications.

That's why medications like Sovaldi go for around $90,000 in the US but $15 in India.

There's no patent, retard.

The reason students can't sell it is that they would need to complete bioequivalence studies to confirm they have a generic version.

It means that people can make the drug in their kitchen.

I see this being posted a lot, and i think i even saw it retweeted by him, but is there any source for this?

What he done was an outrage but it cured the problem and cheapened it in a matter of years, he saved lives in the long run.

Dog bless the free market

Good! Now, lets see that handful of "year 11 students in Sydney" fight that drug through several years, and a couple billion dollars worth of tedious FDA trials, while simultaneously defending themselves in patent courts.

>Essential drug
>There's a generic replacement

>while simultaneously defending themselves in patent courts.
Daraprim's patent expired decades ago.

So the boys going to work for free and do it on a mass scale? Free inventory & distribution network too?

so, the free market fixed it?

It's not on patent, anyone could make and sell it. The costs are in the clinical manufacture, distribution, liability etc. versus the very small demand for the drug.

Because so few people need the drug, it's only commercially viable to produce & supply the small amount needed at a high price.

inb4 these chinks realize that they just need to sell it for a little bit cheaper than Shkreli and they can still make a killing

In practice only AIDS patients still sodomising eachother get toxoplasmosis.

Which is precisely why patent troll Skkreli is getting $750 a tablet...

>Turing Pharmaceuticals is a pharmaceutical company with two marketed products - daraprim (pyrimethamine), for the treatment of toxoplasmosis, and Vecamyl (mecamylamine hydrochloride) for the treatment of hypertension. The company was widely criticized for raising the price of daraprim by over 5000% following its acquisition of rights to the drug in 2015.]

Is Australia 60% asian at this point?

See It has nothing to do with the patent because it's long expired, as Google would have told you in 1 second.

>following its acquisition of rights to the drug in 2015

>implying this wasnt his intention in the first place

you can't have a free market with copyright laws. that's a regulation

daft kike here, what would happen if you didn't need production licenses?

Yes, he has no patent on it. Also good luck getting through FDA testing...their drug still will cost 2 billion to get through testing and then when youre 2 billion in debt and have 5000 customers...how the fuck ddo u get your money back.

>essential drug
>used to treat AIDS

Marketing rights to the brand name drug "Daraprim". Not patent rights to the biologic content of the drug.

depends on if the corporations are going to renege on the laws they paid their corporate proxies in the state to make.

>there are people here so new they aren't redpilled on based shkreli.

It was a 60 year old drug. Only reason why he had a "monopoly" on it is because no one else made the drug since it was unprofitable. Its like having a monopoly on making Lazer Disks. Yeah...no one else is in the market, because 8 people still buy them.

Harvoni costs like 200 bucks to make a treatment, they sell it for 85k...why? Because Gilead spent 14 billion on the patent. Kinda have to recoup that.

>Shkreli btfo

but he wasn't. he became a minor celebrity overnight by what he did. and he expected the free market to correct this eventually—which it hasn't, yet. they can make Daraprim cheaply, but it doesn't change the fact that they can't sell it. Anyway, it wouldn't make any difference, because he's no longer working for Turing, who by the way aren't reducing the price.

The only reason any of us recognize Shkreli and his 'brand' is because he did this to get news coverage.

According to Google he's worth between forty-five and a hundred million dollars, and he knows how to use memetics. He's simultaneously loved and hated by many.

We don't know how this will play out yet, but I think that overall this will be a win for him.

This gets missed every time the story is repeated. Essentially they were eliminating a low volume low profit item from their catalog by over pricing it so no one would buy it anymore. The out-of-patent drug is mass produced and sold in India for pennies, any company can take the opportunity to take the market. The magic of capitalism prevails.

Strange the media and public is so susceptible to trolls and is so willing to direct outrage and attention to straw men like Shkreli and Trump in lieu of directing it at actual injustices. Smirking clowns are really that distracting? They are harmless, and if anything provide the service of highlighting the vocal public's stupidity and hypocrisy.

Nobody can just synthesize shit and start selling it as a pharmaceutical. It probably was cheap to synthesize before these guys "did it" You can make practically any compound cheaply but you sure as shit cannot sell it legally as a medicine for human consumption.

You see, Mexican intellectual, we have a regulatory agency known as the FDA here. To register with the FDA and sell as a generic costs upwards of hundreds of thousands of dollars.

And the FDA can designate "Orphan Drug Status" like it did for shkreli's drug (at least it did at first) which bars any competition meaning they can set the price as high as they please. The problem if you cannot see is not this "meme hero" (he is but a symptom) but rather the entire system created by the FDA and the FDA itself.

Not true. This said, there is a ton of other drugs that are able to treat toxoplasmosis.

>what's this drug for
>it slows down AIDS
Shkreli did nothing wrong.

Drug is 60 years old. Parent ran out 43 years ago dawg.

>Essential for what? A life of random unprotected gay orgies?

Toxoplasma zombi detected.

>Marketing rights to the brand name drug "Daraprim".
That would be a matter of debate in the US courts (other nations still make it). Regardless, a company making the same drug and calling it "Maraprim" would still have to get it past the FDA.

Sydney, huh? And almost the entire class consists of chinks.

He has already said the he wanted someone to make a new drug to replace deraprim because of its horrible side effects

Thats one of his biggest motivators when he spiked the price of the drug, he wanted a better alternative for these people who were completely neglected until Martin brought some "controversy" for people to take notice

>Regardless, a company making the same drug and calling it "Maraprim" would still have to get it past the FDA.
This is the key part. There's nothing stopping those students/anyone else making the same biologic, but good luck funding the FDA trials for such a low-demand drug.

WTF I hate Skreli now. Aids fags should die as fast as possible before they can infect more underage boys.

THE. DRUG. DOESN'T. WORK. Without the profit, nothing gets dumped into research for a better drug. So goes the argument.

9GAG owns nothing.

lol whos gonna buy a drug that middle schoolers made (besides middle schoolers)

Is he make memes to post on 4-chan?

ahmed the clockmaker all over again

of course its gooks. they just ctrl-c & ctrl-p

Doesn't he also give it out for cheap or free to people without insurance that ask?

He hiked the price to fund developing a better drug, because the one he sells is garbage, by his own words, and no one developed a better one in 60 years because it wasn't profitable
He literally dindu, but people need someone to point out as a villain
Also he gives it out to people without insurance

Lol no the faggot is playing agar.io like my kid cousin fucktards

more gay sex clubs?

he was doxxing faggots on stream last night he's still a hero

the article is inaccurate, but you, like most retards on the internet, believe everything they hear and see.

the patent is long gone, and the chemical itself has been in the public domain for years.

rather, turing pharma has rights (trademark) to the NAME of the drug.

other companies are free manufcature and synthesize the drug itself, but must acquire approval from the FDA and must sell the produc under a different name.

Did they forget that he basically hands it out for free if asked to?

Someone said that to me, but I can't find a single source backing that up other than some random fucker on Sup Forums.

Not even wikipedia.

nor did he, or his company. The license was probably hella expensive though.

1. The drug is not under patent, the price is only high because so few people use it.

2. Small scale manufacturing does not equal mass production

>t. Chemical engineer

>chink
>realizing this
>ever

>He's already selling Deraprim at $1 per pill for those who don't have insurance.
source?

when the supply is so low that it can be sold or $1,000s of dollars a pill the motivation is there.

regardless, out society is wealthy enough to be able to be able to properly stabilize the price of life saving drugs just like we stabilize the price of corn, milk, wheat, etc.

There's no innovation the process is well documented at this point. It was a teaching lab exercise.

>That's why medications like Sovaldi go for around $90,000 in the US but $15 in India.
Which is why I can get accutane and sildafinil for 50 cents a pill, without a prescription.

Grey markets are pretty sweet.

But will the efficacy be the same from their compounding?

Snake oil salesmen like the good old days.

Your opinion illustrates how little you understand the situation.

DELET THIS

Shkreli has said it himself on several occasions, both while live streaming, and on TV as well.

They are 11th graders doing a lab exercise of course they are not going to mass produce or sell it numb nuts. But another huge pharm company can easily, they do it daily. If there is a market someone will always be racing to the bottom price.

I believe this is the video where he says it.
youtube.com/watch?v=HXVQOZDKlRE

mass production would drive the cost per pill down.

unless you're a shitty chemical engineer

in addition, you probably should've taken a class in economics since your argument that " the price is only high because so few people use it" flies in the face of the most basic of economic laws.

I've heard that too, but you'd think you'd see a bill, invoice, clip of him saying it, or testimonial to that effect?

It sounds plausible, but I've seen zero evidence so far.

It's out of patent no studying to be done or trails to run, you just make it.

>" the price is only high because so few people use it" flies in the face of the most basic of economic laws.
Like what?

Isn't that why things like paint shakers and luminescent glassware are expensive? The lack of an economy of scale.

People are too stupid to even learn what the drug is for, they just regurgitate some salon or huffpo misleading bullshit. There's some commonality between toxoplasmosis and aids, I don't remember what exactly, but the story gets twisted into killing AIDS patients for cash.
