Oh, and France's policy in WW1 was to dismember all of its enemies. This is in complete disregard of prior arrangements where the European countries agreed to a balance of power to maintain stability.
They dismembered Austria and Hungary and surrounded them with a ring of artificial states (Yugoslavia, Czechoslovakia, which don't even exist anymore, and Romania) in order to simply screw them over. As we saw, with A-H dismantled, there was no power strong enough to resist Russian invasion into Southern Europe; and even decades later, the area is unstable and broken apart into many feuding minor countries.
Winston Churchill and Lloyd George called the destruction of A-H a tragedy, but they couldn't stop France's hand in it.

To be fair to the right in Austria, it's a miracle they even got as many votes as they did, so it's not all doom and gloom. It would have been nice to have another country on board, but given time, the refugee crisis isn't going to just dry up and blow away, better luck next time.
