Post yfw every time a lib wants to repeal the electoral college because states like PA, OH, MI, and WI especially are not reliably blue anymore like they've been since Reagan.

bluntly I find it childish on either side to want a system gone only when your side doesn't win.

Are there any good reasons for this system though?

Yes. Los Angeles, NYC, and other shithole cities would control the entire Republic.

It's a compromise between pure democracy and a pure republic. For example we have a split congress; the house which is (little d) democratic and a house which Is (little r) republican.

mfw trumptards suddenly want to get rid of the EC because they just found out about faithless electors

the whole system is messed up, do away with it and have a simple vote, more votes = winner

>mfw

The reason its set up like this is the founders knew people were dumb (and they only expected white men to be voting). The reason electors can change their vote if they want to, along with the electoral college being the determining factor in the election, is that if the public tards out and elects someone dangerous, the educated elite electors can swoop in and save us from ourselves.
Liberals believe Trump is this exact scenario.

this >hurr durr i will only accept the results if i win

This, I'm in cali and after voting for the first time I realized how laxed the voting is here, no ID, no nothing, just a name and address of someone who could possibly be dead. My fucking step grandfather died early this year and i'll bet his voter reg is still good, nobody seems to be give a shit here, and this state's got the most illegals which is basically like stuffing ballots, that is why the electoral college must exist, we are 50 states doing their own thing with voting, so we decide as a union and not a popular vote.

The faithless cucks can go suck one, but I'd still rather have them than the entire country decided by a possibly illegitimate vote.

The system while flawed is to reduce the following issues popular vote bring:
oversaturation of parties, if it was popular vote you see a good 20 some parties rise up and start being actual competition with each other, this would lead to a serious topsy turvy government unless you extended terms and even then it would lead to serious stress on both the voter and politician side of things that closed door deals would become more common.
Another issue is popular vote would create schisms in the states, the most populated ones would get more and more attention until the other states either became 3rd world working force for the major metros or would just be all but annexed. The USA is a huge country and to hear all the people it requires some strong arming to make people listen. It's also worth noting over 50% of the US population lives in less then 20% of all the cites in the country.
Finally a lot more bribery and corruption would exist if there was not a electoral college type system because the masses would be coat tailed into voting things that would hurt them more than help them.

If you want a great real world example of what corruption other systems bring, read up on Hitler's rise to power.

We wouldn't have accepted the results, but we wouldn't be demanding that the electoral college be abolished

le centrist superior meme

You might want to define "we" because when it look like Obama didn't have the popular vote back in 2012 a lot of anons here were saying it should be abolished.

I didn't use Sup Forums in 2012, and I have do doubt they did, but you didn't have that electoral college outrage at a mainstream media level, and not many republicans complained, they just went on to try and improve themselves, and they did it with Trump.

And? Their votes shouldn't count less just because they're liberal cities.

>yfw you realize the Founding Fathers were able to come up with things like the electoral college and the bill of rights because they were arguing amongst themselves like autists for years

It's like they knew twinky white millenial dudes and insufferable bitches would ball up in California and create a hivemind.

This.

The electoral college is the best electoral system ever devised. The only way it could be better is if more states split their votes like Maine and Nebraska. Might even get a couple red votes out of Northern California that way.

>at a mainstream media level
That depends on a lot of factors.
There was just as much outcry then but keep in mind that the media by majority is very pro liberal. The reason they are reporting any complaint no as near riots levels is because they do not want Trump. They wanted Obama so the media had little reason to give any attention to after electron protests.

The vote counts "less" because they are trying to avoid corruption. And to be blunt trusting the masses in entirety has never work out.

It's nothing new, remember the whole reason they rebelled was to get away from England's system.

Yeah, it makes sure that white property owner votes matter more than other votes.

This. The founders thought white men would be the only ones ever voting. If they knew that women and coloreds were going to vote they would have added even more fail safes.

Pure Democracy is tyranny.

No problem. Just make it so only landowners can vote.

This, land owners can be anyone too, women, minorities, anyone with a high enough IQ so that won't be a single issue voter, also people on welfare shouldn't vote, public schools don't get a say in things because they take money so neither should those on govt money.

Because we're a union of states, not one big unitary state.

In short, we're trying to prevent his home country of Germany where the popular vote can swing the country form national socialism, to whatever cuck shit it is now.
