Tae Kwon Do is Horrible

Does anybody else have a suspicion that Tae Kwon Do is a conspiracy to have a weak populace? Have any of you taken Tae Kwon Do before? If so, you know how shitty it is in a self-defense situation. It is so unwieldly that it is pretty much useless, and they don't teach you ANY grabs. The punches are probably the worst. They only teach you like three things to do with your arms, and when you punch you go into a "horse stance" and do the most obvious, easily-grabbable punch in the world. The wheel kick might be able to do some damage with shoes on, but it is so unwieldly that it is also useless. Then there is probably the most hilarious move of all, the inside-out kick.

Why aren't truly dangerous martial arts being taught in general? Kung-fu is not taught, even though there are so many Chinese people, but even better for self defense would probably be Jeet Kun Do or Pankration. In particular, the "This is Sparta!" kick from Pankration has the potential to kick someone's stomach out of their throat, while the wheel kick could hurt, but again good luck doing it.

Do you believe there is a conspiracy to teach Tae Kwon Do as "self-defense" because it would lead to a weaker populace? I know there is the argument that the government doesn't necessarily prevent handguns, but couldn't it be in their interest to stop the general public from being self-reliant with their own hands and feet? You don't need a license for it, most people could pull it off. When I read the Tai of Jeet Kun Do by Bruce Lee, my eyes were opened to what truly brutal martial arts there are, what could save your life. The fact that they aren't teaching this in schools, and the fact that the terrible Tae Kwon Do is everywhere makes me wonder if there is something sketchy going on.

There's no conspiracy. It's just how everyone back in the day was using Hwoarang in Tekken 3 and kicking ass. That's really all it is.

kicks are massively strong and Tae Kwon Do was originally a battlefield technique designed to kick dudes off horses no joke.

But yeah there's not much else good about it.

TaeKwonDo is the most retarded event at the Olympics. Two (usually scrawny and weak) tards swinging wide and then turning the back, screeching at each others ear for no reason whenever they get close, preceded by quick grabbing and hugging.

I swear I could take on 10 TaeKwonDowns.

You're an imbecile if you genuinely believe this level of bullshit.

Tae Kwon Do is not necessarily the "overall best," but not martial art is. What I can tell you is that I have sparred with TKD guys, and their kicks are lethal af. All I need to do is take them to the ground, though...

I took tai chi from a legit tai chi teacher (he learned from the family that invented it) and he said Tai Kwon Do is what you teach the grunts in the army. It's not high level stuff. He also said it leads to a lot of shoulder injuries.

That being said, idk if you learned the thai kick in your dojo, but that shit is incapacitating if you do it right.

Kicking someone off a horse doing 20 mph+

Ye no. That's a good way to hurt your leg or get knocked over in combat which makes you vulnerable to the enemy

It's more about getting your kid to exercise and instilling discipline than learning how to fight.

because I have a gun and can kill you from across the room

Martial arts is antiquated for combat. It is however great for discipline and exercise.

>be careful not to hurt your leg or get knocked over

How about getting killed by the rider wielding a lance, spear, axe, sword, sabre, mace; like anything as a weapon?

Or just being trampled by a charging rider-animal combo of 500-900 kg?

If you're not learning either boxing/muay thai combined with russian sambo/brazilian jiu jitsu you're doing it wrong. Everything else is a meme

tai chi is a joke.

>get in fight
>have no idea how to punch
>can only kick
>get bum rushed as beat up
it's shit

Krav Maga

If Israel uses it you know it's good

The legit stuff is IDF only though.

In any situation where you need any form of martial arts (knife attacker) the absolute last thing you want to do is is grapple them. No martial arts aside from boxing is worthwhile for self defence.

Judo is all grappling and no striking and works great for defense

people rush at you thinking you'll swing at them and miss or something. To someone who's got even minor Judo knowledge an idiot in loose fitting apparel running at you is a dream come true.

Judo and Boxing are the only practical martial arts to learn. All the other stuff is garbage. Never throw a kick in a fight. All you're doing is unnecessarily throwing yourself off balance for little gain.

Tae Kwon Do is a sport made for competition and good physical condition. If you want to know how to fight, go for Krav Maga or Systema.

Brings back memories, when I first went to college. Joined a Judo club with a fat Puerto-rican weaboo, I could squirm my way out of all the holds, even from the regulars. The problem was that it was like the teacher had multiple personalities. He was super chill and then all of a sudden "You must bow to your sensei!". The fact that we learned stuff over again after anybody new joined the club made it the last straw for taking it.

Shut up toothpaste nigger.

Systema is a Russian hoax and why is there never any footage of Krav actually working in a real fight ?

So there's more that's good about it, then?

Armed forces would never suggest facing an opponent in close combat, it's literally just to instill confidence in close high threat situations so the soldiers don't just panic and escalate problems. Martial arts were original designed just to improve the health and stamina as well as psychological well being of soldiers/bodyguards/monks/civilians etc so they'd be able to act rationally to armed threat, the same way that gun training in America is often touted by the NRA to prevent shootings.

It's not for self-defense. Using it makes you more unsafe.
It's aerobics moms do at the YMCA.

Tai Chi isn't great for brawling all the time and sparring, which is probably what you're looking for in a martial art. But it is phenomenal for gaining mastery over your body and self. The tai chi I took was constantly focused on trying to get you to connect with your chi and gaining subtle mastery over movements. It's a more internal form of learning to move. But high level tai chi people aren't a joke. My teacher once seriously bruised a guy through 5 kick shields doing a one inch punch.

But no, it's not a good form if you're looking for street fighting, sparring, cage match type of martial art.

Kyokushin done properly is the best because the training involves full contact sparring and bone conditioning so you don't break your faggot ass knuckles the minute you actually punch someone

I don't believe it's a conspiracy, but I do agree Tae Kwon Do is shit. It's just been around for so long that people hear it and assume it's a viable self defense form when in reality it's really just a fitness thing to most people now.

it's fine, all you need is stamina and force and to know how to throw a punch. Tai Chi develops all of those things and helps you remain calm. It's some meme that any martial art will make you somehow invicible.

Wrong

There's a reason small joint manipulation is banned in almost every fighting sport
Grapple them properly (no submission holds; break their joint in half) then see how long they want to dance with you twisting a broken bone

Wear earplugs - the screaming is ear piercing

It's meant for tiny weak asian men

Not true
Kicks are useful against shins/knees and the heads of downed enemies

tae kwon do is a sport. go learn jujitsu or thai kickboxing or something.

tai chi is a fucking exercise. you got trolled by some old chinese guy.

i can attest to that. judo is all about balance and throwing people off. you don't actually hurt them but you do prevent them from hurting you.

Bjj=sambo>pankration>everything else

Jujutsu or Judo. Pick one. Enjoy throwing and defeating much larger and stronger opponents. Amaze your friends as you quickly and efficiently neutralize your opponent by snapping their arms and legs at the joint.

>There's a reason small joint manipulation is banned in almost every fighting sport

They are banned now but they weren't always banned. People broke fingers all the time in the first UFC torneys just from no gloves but a broken finger doesn't end a fight

Tae Kwon Do is just for sports competitions. Its cousin, Tang Soo Do, is a very effective martial art. That's what I do.

Tell that to the little kids taking it. They really think that it is for self-defense. My parent's friends' 9-year-old kid thinks it is the shit. They can't form concepts like "integrity" and "perseverence" in their heads, and at my dojo where I took it in 3rd grade they never gave the indication that it was a sport. They try to boost little kids' confidence by having them break dinky little pine boards, too.

Tae Kwon do is gook shit, you should never trust anything that was invented/influenced by Koreans because it inevitably will be fake and shallow, just like their entire culture and country.

TKD is kick-based. It was useful before. Most people don't fight like that any more though. I find it too risky.

The only one I don't think has ever been useful is aikido, and I'm not sure about Systema. It looks like bullshit but people I've known say the right things, so I don't know. Anyone know?

it does if your opponent breaks it with a finger lock then starts playing 'this little piggy' with it

Also, what would Sup Forumssters take if given the opportunity? What do you think is the best martial art. You can combine 2 or 3 if you need.

or just get a mosin nagant and learn how to scream in Russian....

europoors arguing how to best beat each other up with plastic spoons.

>american showing disdain for exercise

Tai qi is a type of kung fu. Granted it's a simpler style that focuses less on actual fighting, but it really is a martial art.

I mean I wouldn't pick it about bjj or krav maga, but certainly over tai kwon do

I fucking hate these gay martial arts threads.

As an occasional bouncer, I can tell you nothing beats ganging up 3-to-1 and grabbing testicles with all your might...and calling the cops to come get the drunk fag.

Muay Thai
Freestyle Wrestling
BJJ

Don't think I know anything about freestyle wrestling; why that one?

>they try to boost little kids' confidence
there's nothing wrong with that. but telling them it's an actual self-defense martial art is wrong.

no it's literally exercise. you move around slowly and breathe. all the elderly asians love it. you can't actually fight with it.

2nd dan here, tkd is a good foundation for strikes but isn't great on its own.

Also, it is useless once you are off your feet.

Silat is pretty handy from what i've seen of it

actually what you mean is Tai Chi is a form of Qi Gong, if you ever take Kung Fu/Wu Shu classes and it isn't mentioned then leave you aren't doing kung fu.

I do Muay Thai and have competed in a few tournaments. I am only mediocre, but a couple of times I have been matched up with Taekwondo practitioners (some Takekwondo and Karate guys like to participate in full contact matches in kickboxing and muay thai because they apparently have weird competition rules), and got KOed by the TKD practitioner once, the other time I lost by kicks to the belly. Best strategy if you have to fight taekwondo people is to get in close and utilize traditional boxing or grappling techniques. They kick extrewmely hard, and it is hard to see which direction the kicks come from, also they have some unconventional techniques. I guess Taekwondo could be effective as a martial art, but it demands that the Taeksondo-trained person is highly aggressive and moves with intent. It would fail as a defensive martial art.

If you take generic classes, its horrible and i've never used any of it in a real fight. Learn from a real master though and train hard theres some really useful self defense moves and those kicks are DEADLY if you can land it.

Tae Kwon Do is all about kicking. Look at your arm. Look at your leg. Which is bigger/more powerful? which would you want to use in a fight?
The fact is, a practiced tae kwon do fighter, given distance and no weapons, will kick your ass. However if you know how to grapple, and you are too close to kick, you will win against the tae kwon do kicker. Still I'd rather kick someone.

>given distance and no weapons
so, unpractical bullshit

yeah, kinda. Beats having nothing but guns were invented since then.

why not the "sweet science" ? most fights begin and end with fists, while paying attention at footwork not to stumble and fall off.I don't trust in these "flying legs" martial arts styles.

Most people who do martial arts very rarely do kicks irl if they're fighting. As far as protecting yourself goes there isn't really much point in doing more than boxing. All this MMA is pure shit for edgy faggots who end up as a jack of all trades and a master of none, which is why every time you hear someone say "Well I've been an MMA/"cage" fighter for X" you know they're going to get knocked out.

Muay Thai (or boxing) for discipline, condition and practice in throwing and anticipating punches
+
Judo (Or Wrestling) for good understanding of balance, getting opponents to the ground while avoiding getting thrown on the ground yourself. Also, learning how to fall correctly without hurting yourself is important, as dumb as that may sound.

What about BJJ or sambo instead of judo?
And yeah, that's a good one.

FPBP

HWOARANG WAS THE DANKEST

next to baek of course

What is most practical?
Boxing?
Most retards fight with just shitty punches so it seems like boxing would be the best counter?

>not being able to carry a gun
>not being able to defend yourself
>having to discuss so-called "martial arts" with barely any practical value
Is there any hope for us if Trump makes guns more accessible and criminality drops as a result? Will any country at all pay attention?

Most fights end up on the ground quickly, but most people end up with several people fighting.

You need to know how to get out of ground stuff, too, so you don't end up getting choked out or curbstomped.

You can't use it in Russia and cold places, because leg techniques are not useful on ice and snow

Fact: Chinese fight producers book give fake 'shaolin kung fu' fighters easy cred by having them effortlessly destroy korean tae kwan do world champions:

youtube.com/watch?v=116gyX77UR4

Korean kicboxers are imo Asia's best non-thai martial artists so it's not a racial thing so much as tae kwan do fucking sucks

Icefree most of the year in all of russia

i actually did this to a friend
he was getting to anoying showing off his kicks
i just tanked 1 kick and he was fucked

is it too late to get into judo as a 21 year old

i'm in solid but not amazing physical shape (6' 165ish, 3plate deadlift and can run a 5k) but have no martial artsan experience

i don't really want to go through all the hocus pocus shit because i'm quite happy where i am spiritually/philosophically i just want to learn how to throw niggas

Not at all. Snow mash and thin ice is how you easily fall after a kick

1. snow
2. people and cars and shit go over snow
3. snow becomes compact as hell and pretty much turns into thick ice, just as slippery

Hapkido is the most powerful martial art. Prove me wrong.

youtube.com/watch?v=0aTjdjUY77E

It's a low-tier striking art in terms of self-defense... but it does offer super high risk/high reward in the form of head kicks.

Catch somebody by surprise with one, it's a total fight ender.
