You'd think they'd learn something from pearl harbour

Why does America spend so much money on ships that are barely used and spend most of their time being refuelled and refitted or siting in port waiting to be used.

According to the following site, only two carriers are ever deployed at any one time out of 11 total, with a couple being used for training while the rest are all being refuelled(yes, nuclear carriers need to refuel too) or refit which can take 3-4 years.
globalsecurity.org/military/ops/where.htm

What a waste of money. But not as hilariously embarrassing as the French Carrier, which took 12 years to build, spent another 5 year breaking down until her first major refit and refuelling (which she needs to do every 7 years) after which she broke down after a single day.
The only reason the french have one is to say they have one.

India is building them too, also nuclear, can you imagine? India, where 30% of the poorest people live in squalor and trying to build floating nuclear reactors, incoming nuclear disaster and unless you're building nuclear carriers like America does it will end up just like the French, sitting in port not being used for most of it's life.

The British skimped on their carriers and have put >A fucking ramp on it, when they have the technical know how to use steam catapults. So theirs is a glorified LHD

The Chinese only want them to pretend they can try and muscle the US out of the south china sea and they are smart enough not to buy into the nuclear meme like India and france.

You might as well make Battleships at this point anyways since carriers are obsolete to everyone but America who need them to bomb the shit out of people on the other side of the planet unlike Europe and Asia who live next door.

Force projection cunt

What are you smoking and why are you not sharing?

Because of the military-industrial complex. It demands we spend lavishly on our defense budget. We have fucking bases in most countries in the world, for what fucking reason, I don't know. We're all supposed to be afraid of WW3 and some camel fuckers in the middle east, so that defense contractors can continue to rip us off.

You'd think you'd be able to do that for less than $12.8 billion + $4.7 billion R&D
Meanwhile
>Pic related

The CDG nuclear aircraft carrier is being used right now to bomb Isis in Syria. Before that it was used to bomb ISIS in Iraq and the Talibans in Afghanistan. You have no idea what you're talking about.

>end up just like the French, sitting in port not being used for most of it's life.

We bomb ISIS with the Charles de Gaulle when Gengis Khan is the master of your capitale

>You'd think they'd learn something from pearl harbour

yeah they learned you would get nuked if you try some shit like that

The FN Charles De Gaulle was supposed to be taking over the 5th fleet this month but because of the Paris attacks she was paraded out early and now has to return to port leaving the pathetic HMS Ocean in command of the american 5th fleet.

Your president is an idiot who fucked over the campaign in syria to make it look like he was doing something.

oh and as for bombing mudslimes, she and USS Eisenhower have moved from Bahrain and the gulf through to the med on their way back to their home ports.
Pic related, the mighty ike returning leaving no carrier because FN CdG had to come out and burst it's load early.
Good job frog.

Nice try britbing but were not getting rid of our ships. We rule the seas now.

>caring this much about another country
Is it really that boring in the UK? Why aren't you petitioning against the new Cuck Gear?

If we poured 13 billion into Detroit it would be a gold plated ghetto but a shit hole ghetto none the less.

>your president is a idiot

>an

...

I was stationed at that shithole for 2 years. I can see the mcdonalds in that pic where there was a 30 car line almost 24/7 bc it's the only place on base to get food besides the galley.

Idk the year it was taken but my ship might be one of the ddgs at the northern end of the pier.

Hell I could technically be in that picture doing the boat report up on deck.

Anyway, fuck Norfolk.

Aircraft carriers are passe. Weather control is now the thing.

>falling for the carrier meme
the trick is to let others pay the carrier that benefits you too

1. The majority of ships in the US navy exist for one reason: Protect the fucking carriers.

2. Carriers = mobile air power. If you can move an air base around you can effectively contest or control the aspect of air power in a conflict. Whoever controls the seas controls the world.

3. Carriers require extensive repair and maintenance due to their sheer size. A carrier that is broken down at sea is a giant, gold plated, diamond encrusted sitting duck.

4. Redundancy. You should know this Ahmed, since it was your nation launching a bat shit crazy air raid on Italy that turned them from "The Menace of the Med" to the laughing stock of the Axis powers in a single strike. If a carrier is disabled or destroyed we have the capacity to replace it.

When the aliens invade and all our ships start flying and and fuck their alien shit up, you'll be grateful.

Or it could be this

When you clearly realize that countries only field carriers to boast, why are you surprised that they skimp out on every penny that goes into them?

>Brits jelly of our armada

like pottery

Walk softly, and carry a big stick.

You actually make several good points

They're always there when we need them though. We aren't at war right now dipshit, why would we waste money floating 10 small cities around the world?

America rules the waves

This. Climate change is a propaganda cover up for HAARP which could be used to melt that naval yard and everything in it. Post YFW you realise pic related is not pn America but is a British array in Wales and the Chinks and Russkis have this technology too.

Best sort of weapon is the one you don't even have to use.

This. Jobs aren't going to just magically appear in Detroit simply because we dumped 1 trillion dollars worth of bling bling onto it. How stupid are Europeans?

>haarp

>melt anything, anywhere

AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAH
oh wow

>We have fucking bases in most countries in the world, for what fucking reason

to keep our drug markets running smoothly

Britannia owns the US military

Found the shill, lads. They're never far away when you mention the big three 'conspiracy theories' that are actually true.

Holy fuck the level of delusion is astounding.

We have better tech than any other military in every area by a few decades at least, but our sub tech is light years ahead of anyone. One fully equipped ssn could take on the subs of every other country at once and not even get scratched. You're way out of your leage, britbong.

Massive nuclear carriers need a lot of down time to restock and refuel can take 18 months at a time. That's what you need 10 plus to project power.

The French have one nuclear powered aircraft carrier that just spent a few months in the Med attacking ISIS, now its on its way back to France to restock and for maintenance it will be out of action for 12 months.

>but our sub tech is light years ahead of anyone

In 2012, during the joint exercise Fellowship, Astute performed simulated battles with the latest United States Navy Virginia-class submarine, USS New Mexico. It was reported that the Americans were "taken aback" by Astute's capabilities.
Royal Navy Commander Iain Breckenridge was quoted, "Our sonar is fantastic and I have never before experienced holding a submarine at the range we were holding USS New Mexico. The Americans were utterly taken aback, blown away with what they were seeing"

>USS Pueblo

Hah, yeah I knew you would post that shit. That was a simulated war game with set rules and conditions, with ships experiencing simulated casualties consistent with what would happen during a naval battle. I was actually in the fucking Navy. What I'm trying to say is, that doesn't mean shit.

because being ready for all out war is more intimidating than making empty threats

just a big scam to keep the economy going, isn't it?
good on them, capitalism thrives on unnecassary spending and copious consumption

is it true the marines have never had a successful mission, i got told that at basic training

90% of military isn't for what we need. It's for what we would need in a worst case scenario. Also, force projection, joint country training ops, etc.

But what your saying has no basis, war games are the best ways to try systems capabilities.

>We have better tech than any other military in every area by a few decades at least.

not true in the slightest

The Sampson radar system on the Type 45 is comparable in the abilities of the Aegis system of the Burke, although the Sampson Radar can see further.

>You'd think they'd learn something from pearl harbour
A somewhat successful attack on us navy by carrier-based aircraft and submarines?

they are most useful in subjugating pre-information era civs deep inside enemy territory and far away from home

they also serve the purpose of passportless burgers to experience shooting outside USA

Exactly

Its not like you guys have any overseas interests you need to protect.

Obama sent three US aircraft carriers down to Brownsville to be scrapped out.

He sold them for $1 each. And now beaners are cutting them apart.

>Spend most of their time being refueled

Having 11 Nimitz class Supercarriers plus air-strip locations worldwide allows the US to operate global network-centric warfare with enough air-bridges in strategic locations to keep >3000 fighter aircraft airborne simultaneously without the need for aerial refuelling.

THAT. Is why.

STOP BULLYING THE RAMP

All ships are sold for $1 after decom. They just want them gone, and don't want to pay for the removal.

Oftentimes they'll just sink their own ships in training exercises, with the added benefit of making reefs.

T. Former Sailor.

Jet fuel numpty

Literally

we try to tempt fate sometimes

Everyone

Look at him and laugh
Look!

expensive war toys are good for graft

Great nuclear exercise waiting to happen if you ask me.

We could also pump ships out better than in ww2 nowdays so losing a couple would suck but wouldnt even be crippling

Here you go, please ignore the zoomed in turk face.

youtube.com/watch?v=KD-naLXlvck&channel=UCwnKziETDbHJtx78nIkfYug

Type 45 still doesn't work properly and constantly breaks down, it's had radar superiority over the yanks for only a few years and it's already about to be surpassed.

A weapon unused is a useless weapon.

Wrong

Nuclear weapons arent useless and most of them will never see service

brah each supercarrier goes through a 3.5 year refueling and refit ever 25 years

these things have a 50 year life time, so 3.5 years x 2 is 7 years. so you got a ship that can operate for 43 years.

are they pointless and waste of money?? I think they are, but better to have them nonetheless.

OH FUCK NO. NOT AGAIN.

objectively wrong

Kek.

>You'd think they'd learn something from pearl harbour

Tell that to the Japs.

>pic related
had some good points
heh

>India with nukes

We all know how this ends

ROBOTECH

You don't understand current day economics.

Isn't that how the liberal ideology works? Throw more money into welfare, public education, and healthcare and everything will be magically fixed?

>They don't know that Nuclear reactors need to be refuelled

Because there's more to aircraft carriers than the war and bombing shit meme.

At any time the United states can deploy a group of ships that function as a self-sufficient mobile major city complete with airport to any corner of the globe. This could be in response to terrorism, war, natural disaster, famine, emergency or anything else you can imagine.

If a tsunami causes destruction on south pacific islands we can have a carrier group there in a matter of days to provide medical care, airlift aid etc.

If an act of terrorism raises tensions in the middle east we can have a carrier group in the Persian gulf in short order to project force over a huge area and offer any number of possible responses. Because they are nuclear and mostly self-sufficient they can stay there an indefinite amount of time if necessary.

>Tsunami
How noble of you, I would counter argue that saying a carrier being used for disaster relief is a bonus of owning one, not a reason for it to exist.
>Act of terrism
I don't see anyway what so ever that a carrier battlegroup would be of any use against terrorists

Your navy should exist to protect your assets nothing more. Fuck other countries.

Don't forget surge versus sustained ops

They(everyone else) did. They learned you get nuked if you try any shit like Pearl Harbor on us.

NUKED TWICE EVEN

hellhole

>our most loyal ally has really good sonar

.... not seeing the problem here
