Already asked for more hours, they keep saying that they don't have more to give. They've let me pick up more hours in different departments but every time I do they cut me in the department I'm not getting hours in. They are doing this to everyone to not have to pay the health insurance. The hardware store just doesn't have enough work for me to quit the grocery store and open up my availability to get more hours.
I'm almost at this point. Sooner or later I might have to resort to pulling tricks on craigslist.

I was too poor to go to a college so I went to a trade school. I've now been in my chosen field for a year.
I won't ever be rich, but I work at one job 40 hours a week and if I stay in it I can work my way up to earning middle class or even upper middle class.
I have honestly fucked up enough at work I was almost fired. They didn't because my specific trade skill is rare. The people that do learn it all dream of opening their own shop so the amount of people who want to work under someone else is low.

Get certifications. Certifications to get started:
COMPTIA A+
COMPTIA Network+
COMPTIA Security+
Torrent the study material, learn it - pay for and schedule the exam, pass and start applying for jobs. Exams are roughly in the $150 to $300 dollar range. Those three aren't that hard. Honestly, if you are already pretty skilled at computers I'd go for Security+ first (to get into the IT security field) and once you start making more money fill out your certifications depending on what discipline you're interested in (IT management or IT security or IT networking or Computer repair etc.) Google IT certifications and check BLS for jobs in the IT field. Good luck .

You can learn hell of a lot of developer skills without spending a penny, and have an actual career and make 6 figures in a few years.
If you have no talent with IT at all, then go for trade like HVAC, plumbing, electrician you can make damn good money with those too.

Yeah, it has. A+ is considered the very first level of certification. Typical it's valued higher when coupled with other certifications like Network+ / Security+ or Linux+. A+ by itself isn't valued a whole lot, it's just considered the first step in the ladder of certifications. It's the bare minimum to get into the IT sector. I would take A+ and Network+ to start.

I worked with the IEBW (International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers) in an area of the country with the least amount of electrical work and never had an issue.
The only reason I left was because I found something better.
After 5 years of training -4 for journeymans and 1 for masters, you can legally run your own business. You can work residential, commercial, or industrial.
