The question is, should I hurry up with it? Our government has been doing some crazy stuff which have had me worried for a while. Incidentally, how do you justify having all this encryption shit when someone asks about it? "It's a hobby/I do it for fun" really isn't the best reason, even if it's true. Fuck knows what you'd do if it goes a step further and you end up needing to explain to law enforcement why you refuse to give up your passwords.

Any kind of British "proportional representation" system will invariably create a leftist alliance government. Yes, UKIP and other rightwing parties would get a few more seats, but it would be politically impossible to ally yourself with them. The media just wouldn't allow it. They would be frozen out. It's exactly what happens all over Europe. The Tories would have to "compromise" every single one of their few remaining values away to ever have any hope of forming a government. They would end up becoming the blue Lib Dems overnight. Again, this is exactly what happens in Europe - Merkel is supposedly a "centre right" Christian Democrat, but she's further to the left than Miliband.
Meanwhile Labour, the Greens, the Lib Dems, the SNP and the rest of the slimy lefties would be able to run wild and do whatever they wanted. No one in the media would complain about Labour forming an alliance with the SWP or the Communist party.
FPTP ensures that we don't end up with full-blown continental lefty AIDS. It's not perfect, but it's better than permanent Green-Labour rule.
