My advice, don't go to university. Stick with certifications or whatever is cheap, then self teach and build a project portfolio. You'll stick out more than the people with degrees and no experience.

I assume you learned your trade without school? Lucky cunt

I'm in CC would never go to uni. Even CC is driving it up though. If I can get out of my 2nd semester tuition I think I'm done

Living in one of the cheap parts of the US has its perks. I spend about $2000 a month and I have almost everything I'll ever want. All I really need is to find a woman I'm willing to have kids with, and then I'll buy a house with 5 bedrooms and work on filling them

I think I know you.

Jesus fucking christ, once you break it down you realize how pathetic it all is

Whereabouts do you live, if I may ask? And do you work remotely or go into an office? I'm a software dev myself, am looking to get out of the SF bay area because i can work remotely

Don't mind at all. I live in Alabama, close to Montgomery. It's not a great city but it's near a pretty lake and it's a job that pays way more than the local cost of living.

Earning in the 70-80k range here gives you a better lifestyle than double that in the Bay Area. Decently nice houses sell for 5 figures out here (3-4 bedrooms, new or at least new looking). Being an engineer outside of a city is like cheat codes for the economy.

I literally buy every single thing I want immediately when I desire it, and I still save about 2/3 of my income.

And yeah, working remotely would just compound onto it. You'd get the big city salary, rural cost of living, $0 commute costs. Basically if you work remotely in software and aren't a millionaire within 15 years you're just stupid

siblings/cousins too.. all very fortunate to have a successful/generous relative who owned a business and sold it

m8, if it's student loan debt, at least the interest rates are relatively low and they usually work with you on income contingent repayment plans. Granted they'll never go away even if you declare bankruptcy, but it can be manageable. Credit card debt, well lol that's another issue.

I have approx $18k in loan debt left so I could burn it all away if I wanted but I keep it around to help build credit.

My biggest regret so far is wasting my education on a (((Journalism))) degree though. I was a naive fool back then.

The only bad part, and it is a super bad part, of the bay area is never being able to afford a home. I just have to accept that I will rent until I leave, but I will leave with plenty of cash in hand. That and everything closes at 9:00. (Honestly how the hell does that work. The largest collection of computer nerds in one place and we can't buy a god damn Taco at 2 in the morning.)

should clarify that they each have about the same depending on investment make up of portfolios etc.

Haha oh boy if you want stuff to stay open then semi-rural Bible Belt is NOT for you. Let's not talk about stuff closing early, let's talk about stuff not even being open on Sunday. My town has 1 gym and it's open 12 hours a day, 6 days a week.

There's some small town charm to it, but I grew up in a city of over a million and this stuff does wear on you somewhat

Really the dream is to work in a mid-size city of around 200,000, and within a few hours drive of a giant city. Enough to have all the amenities you need, close enough to a big city and airport, and far enough out to escape the grind somewhat

ha didn't mean to reply to anyone with that post my bad. I can work with my current debt and theoretically have everything paid off in under a year if I dropped out. Just don't know what to do. I like making money but not being in school is just depressing (dropped out in 2014 too but that was for IT)

I'm just gonna learn as much java over the break and see how I feel after that

Just a mid-sized state school with a 2.9 gpa.
