Any threat to police officers is also a threat to other citizens. If the police need a particular armament or materiel, it means that there is a threat that makes it necessary. Given the first sentence, any restriction on arms or materiel that is applied to the public must also be applied to the police, otherwise it is a tacit admission that other citizens do not have the same right to self defense as the police.
