Atlus Shrugged

Why do people get so triggered by this book?

never read it, what's it about?

Because it's incredibly edgy. Not even Sup Forums is this edgy. Also because the author is a staunch libertarian who lived half of her life on dole and in public funded housing.

Because it's smarter than them. And it challenges mankind to think for itself and not be lazy, petty, self-destructive fucks.

feminist/communist propaganda bullshit. its fucking garbage thats all you need to know.

it's not dialectical
universe isn't static
Ayn Rand based her philosophy on logic of 2000 years ago, aristotle and all that

>people who can't take care of themselves should fucking die!!
>p-pls, gib monies
Yeah nah.

any particular passages in this literary work that jump out to support that? Just curious.

Because Ayn Rand is a literal piece of shit.

I'm reading it now . About 200 pages in .
I don't get what people are saying in this thread , it's pro- self interest , pro- competition , pro- Liberty and pro - self determination .
Pretty pol approved imho

Atlas shrugged is exactly what's happening but 10x worse. It's not bad.

Fuck off shill

It's in the Library of Congress Top 10 Most Influential Books at No. 2. The Bible is No.1. Anyone that says the book is shit 1. Hasn't read it 2. Makes personal character attacks on Rand. The book could save the world if everyone read it. It brought me over to the right.

With the exception of her lustful moments it's not bad. Reardon is bro who doesn't give a fuck

After the first 200 pages is gets a lot better and easier to read.

Yea she literally predicted everything that's going on right now. It's fucking insane.

I remember in high school this scraggily dude who was a Rush fanatic used to babble about Rand, because the drummer cited her in an album.

So later on, in college, I picked up a couple of her books.

Whew lad. Boring. Dry. Beyond talky - Atlas Shrugs has a speech that likes a hunded pages.

It's libertarian wanking, by a dried up prune who had a wierd cult of personality around her. She makes Russian literature read like Harry fucking Potter.

But mention her name, and all the Rush fans get all gooey. She's one of those authors everyone claims to have read, but very few have.

Hell, I think even Peart came out later on and said he really wasn't that big a fan of hers, he just liked some of her ideas when he was writing that album.

>Pretty pol approved imho
Not really. Sup Forums is strongly tribalistic and far from self-interested - otherwise we wouldn't spend nights raging about white race going to shit. Also, big portion of Sup Forums endorses national socialism which is almost the exact opposite of what Rand says.

She hated the libertarians. She hated pretty much everyone, she's better understood as a misanthrope than an elitist. That being said her work stands independent of her own flaws as a person.

It's anti-communist in the extreme. One of the best sections of the book is about ten pages in which a homeless ex factory worker explains how a company was ruined by being run on the principle of "from each according to his ability, to each according to his need." It manages to make a better break down on the failure of communism in a few pages than Orwell did with Animal Farm.

Hello slovak. Haven't seen one of you in a while.

Why do you put a space after hyphens?

asking why people hate atlas shrugged is like asking why so many liberals hate the bible. they're very similar books.

It's a giant strawman against any form of regulation and glorifies business leaders as God kings.

Slander becomes the tool of the loser

Correct. I believe she referred to libertarians as a hippie group.

Individualism triggers both progressive lefties and right wing conservatives

Yeah I could do without some of the romance shit . And Reardon is the man . I want to punch everyone in his family though .

What triggered?

Lefties love individualism.

>No race, no gender, no nationality, no in-group whatsoever. Just be an individual. :^)

an architect that hates being paid for work then blows up a building. somewhere a robotic girl gets passed around like a blunt in the story. every character either jacks off the main character or is a self absorbed anus with 0 warmth.

that's the fountainhead you retard

You just jolted a ton of memories. did a book report on Atlas Shrugged in highschool and read parts of what you're talking about to go into how communism doesnt work etc..

lefties not progressives. progressives are all about identity politics and oppressed / oppressive groups.

you're right i am retarded my bad.

It's a piece of garbage and because of it I'm never reading again!

Great book when its just being taken as a cool mystery suspense story. But when you realise its trying to promote a personal philosophy, it falls apart.

Also too wordy

>it's about tree fiddy

But seriously, it's about John Galt

>too wordy

agree whole-heartedly. The 50 page diatribe by Galt in the middle of the book, when he takes over the radio station to explain why they shelled the factory from the battleship is way too long winded.

The Fountainhead is better, imho. More symbolism/allegory, less outright lecture.

She also did a novella called Anthem about a technologically repressive and collectivist society and it's a quick read and pretty good from what I remember.

a corrupt bureaucracy controlled by politicians choosing which corporations succeed and crushing all the competition causing a global economic crisis? unrealistic conspiracy fantasy garbage

Who is John Galt?

>Communist

Do you know how to read Amerifat?

because the majority of Sup Forums believes their race is already mostly perfect and like to live off the achievements of greater men that happened to be their own race

while Rand advocates:

>reason above all else
>working hard to achieve purpose and productivity
>treating people as individuals and judging them based on their value

I believe Sup Forums will eventually come around and embrace Objectivism, probably when most people here start working.

Individualism is fine, and there's a wide variety of authors to read and debate in that philosophy, among which the writings of Any Rand are notable.

Objectivism was Aynn Rand trying to get paid with a cult of personality in her old age. It's garbage.

It's the difference between reading L. Ron Hubbard's science fiction and being a Scientologist.

Anthem is much better.

Because it's a glimpse into the Jewish soul.

The shrugs aren't free

Exactly.

(if you are really asking, go read the first line of the book)

Authors Mary Sue fanfic.

Super smart independent woman that needs no man. But is sought after and gang bangs a latino prince, guy who invented a new element, and a guy who invented a perpetual motion machine.

Thanks, I've heard good things, I still need to read it.

a new alloy not element, but yeah. The romantic parts of it are very cringy.

>Why do people get so triggered by this book?
Objectivism is a nigger philosophy.

Characters literally created an anarchic utopia where engineers and doctors are pig farmers. Thats communism.

Just bought it today. Also , have to have a dictionary on my right hand when reading

I read the shit user, are you dense?

Because the popular media has done little but shit on Ayn Rand for the last three decades.

They've heard its bad & that she is retarded, so that's what they think. God forbid they do some independent thinking & learn something.

I like trains, worked at a railway, picked up book, cool it's about trains.... Ok, halfway through, getting a bit long in tooth... 3/4 fawk, skip a bit, a bit more, skip to the end ... Anyone else think this foul of been a 300 page masterpiece if it were not written by a meth addicted femanon??? When it stopped being about trains, I stopped caring. Choo choo.

spaceless(small) hyphens are for semi-compound words, words you want to string together sort of as one element

(big) hyphens with spaces between the words are for producing breaks in the sentence - a sort of semicolon, if you will

I could ask you the same thing. I was baiting the leaf to ask the question, but you chimed in. Tried to give you the benefit of the doubt with "exactly", but whatever.

Because its high school tier, long-winded Jew bullshit?

The whole fucking point was that they set it up as a strictly CAPITALIST meritocracy. They built Gault's Gulch to GET AWAY from the encroaching communism.

I don't think you read the book your criticizing. Did you think 1984 was pro surveillance state?

>"I shall not live my life for any other man's sake nor ask any other man to live for mine."

Sums it up pretty nicely.

Sup Forums shrugged

>Who was phone?

Because it accurately describes the stupidity of liberals and their laws.

Yes the people commenting are likely illiterate liberals. Too stupid to understand anything more complex than a comic book or video game.

So the story itself is uninteresting and boring, but the moral is concrete?
Sounds like a rehash of Orwell done poorly.

The Fountainhead is more pointed, shorter, and less ridiculous. It says all the same things but does it better.

>witness your father lose all of his hard work because of communism
>immigrate to the US and advocate for the opposite extreme

are you mentally retarded?

Parts of it are interesting depending on what you like as a reader. She desperately need a better editor, because some of it is downright poetic and inspiring.

There's like one paragraph early on where the main character is smoking a cigarette while frustrated at work and she just has this moment to contemplate what great things were thought up by watching smoke. Something like; from the fires of ancient man to the industrialist meditating in his study on some technical problem. Just a little paragraph that I thought was really good and stuck with me for quite a while.

You find a lot of that. Plus there's plenty of 'oh shit' moments and just people being bad ass. Like this one guy named Wyatt who discovered how to extract oil from previously unrecoverable wells was making a killing. Well the government went to seize his operation. So he demolished the well and set it on fire. He and his best workers went on the run and a bunch of goons were left starring at a 500 ft tall jet of burning oil with a sign out front that said something like "It's yours if you can take it"

Nobody knew how to put it out and the damned thing burned for months.

Its really just the author placing herself into a fictional scenario through a female protagonist she wishes she could be and then having said protagonist live out a wild sex life the author fantasizes about. This was the not the only but indeed the strongest motivation behind Ayn Rand writing this book.

It is so badly written.

Awesome. Power to the people, stick it to the man, in a thoughtful way. I might end up reading it sooner or later. Thank you user.

>There's like one paragraph early on where the main character is smoking a cigarette while frustrated at work and she just has this moment to contemplate what great things were thought up by watching smoke.
Then Rand's little clique interpreted that to mean that smoking is a moral imperative. Jewish intellectual cults are hilarious.
