Is there a way to get married in church without making it official with the state?
Besides wrestling marriage out of the jaws of bureaucracy and into the spiritual realm where it belongs, it seems like a practical way to not get Fraser'd in case of a divorce.
It seems like you should be able to have a public wedding with all of the witnesses, making it socially official, and then just get a lawyer to write up a will to give your assets over to the other person if you die.

you can ask a reverend or priest to marry you anytime
Juan Edwards
This. There are some Catholic priests that have an issue with it, and some that don't. Ask around.
Also, watch out for common-law marriage.

Can this work in a Catholic or Orthodox church?
>leaving assets to your wife You only leave assets to the kids, and then they take care of the wife. Or they don't in which case she regrets not being a better mother and repents.

Is common law marriage even a thing in countries that were never exposed to anglo-saxon common law?
Colton Torres
No clue, man. Just giving a heads up in case you're behind 7 proxies or plan to live in the USA
Austin Ramirez

So what is the benefit of not being recognized by the state and basically sneaking around about being married?

The state would consider you common law spouses if you lived with each other for more than a couple years.
