>Existentialism is the belief that through a combination of awareness, free will, and personal responsibility, one can construct their own meaning within a world that intrinsically has none of its own. >Nihilism is the belief that not only is there no intrinsic meaning in the universe, but that it’s pointless to try to construct our own as a substitute. >Absurdism is the belief that a search for meaning is inherently in conflict with the actual lack of meaning, but that one should both accept this and simultaneously rebel against it by embracing what life has to offer.
Regardless of your religious affiliation, if you had to choose, which one would you go for as a more satisfying doctrine? Also philosophy general

Self bumpan, yet I might have overestimated Sup Forums´s capacity for serious discussion

Pretty much all absurdists here. Move along.
Andrew Parker
>>Absurdism is the belief that a search for meaning is inherently in conflict with the actual lack of meaning >but that one should both accept this and simultaneously rebel against it by embracing what life has to offer.
So its just overly self aware Existentialism.

Philosophy is the epitome of "the chattering classes"

Deconstruct 'meaning' OP

Of the 3, Existentialism will bring the highest quality of life, therefore the highest satisfaction. They will spend their life doing what they desire freely, without doubt or contradiction. Very comfy.
Nihilism will lead to a life of sadness.
Absurdism will lead to a life of known contradiction, making the person lost and confused. Uncomfortable, but preferable to Nihilism if the goal is a good life.
Existentialism>Absurdism>Nihilism
Liam Sanders
Figures Pretty much Meaning as in the relationship between your conscious existence and the existence of the universe itself, implying there actually is one. Unfortunately philosophy is subjective by nature and thus people often equate meaning with "purpose" or "goal"
Wyatt Wood
>-ism
Asher Lee
>Unfortunately philosophy is subjective by nature and thus people often equate meaning with "purpose" or "goal"
Is your statement subjective nigger?
Evan Davis
Personally I think existentialism makes most sense out of all 3 of them. It fits the human life as we don't really see the meaningless all the time. Nihilism is just being depressed and absurdism will make you confused and probably depressed as well
Dominic Lewis
Yes
Ryan Watson
I like nihilism, except the >pointless to try to construct our own as a substitute part. It's not pointless, it's something to keep your mind busy, which especially in today's world is an essential part of life. The problem with nihilism is it doesn't answer the question "what should guide me to happiness?" and so isn't a very useful philosophy for keeping a society in line. See what this board calls "degeneration".

> It's not pointless, it's something to keep your mind busy
Then the point of Nihilism is to keep your mind busy, giving Nihilism a purpose, therefore contradicting itself.
Owen Rogers
absurdism, it's the only way being a christian in an evil and meaningless world is possible
also camus is based af

It amazes my how people afiliate with the most "useful" or "satisfactory" religion or ideology, or the want that will bring more happiness. I have to believe in what I think is the truth, the reality, wich is obviosly a universe with no meaning at all. Ugly, but I think that's the reality.
Luis Morales
I've seen a refutation to nihilism very similar to this and it resonated me very much. I've now also realized what I described is basically existentialism in the OP...
Brody Garcia
>I have to believe in what I think is the truth
Do you have to? What is creating the "have to"?
Let's assume the universe has no meaning. Can you still create a meaning or purpose for yourself?
Joshua Reed
>nihilism is just being depressed I don't advocate Nihilism but I know people who identify themselves as Nihilists and live a pretty good and productive life by doing whatever since nothing matters, I don't agree with them, but they are definitely not sad about the lack of meaning, just apathetic
Tyler Thompson
It sounds like a masochistic version of existentialism, why would you want to constantly remind yourself there's no meaning when you can indeed just make your own?

You only find the Truth if the Father leads you to his Son, that is all I will say.

Maybe Absurdists are also Sadists.

Why couldn't you? Why are people waking up each day anew and not just keep lying down wasting away.

i read the stranger by this edgy cunt and it sucked balls.
he wants to make a point about absurdism but has not the balls to make his main character just shoot the fkn arab.
it has to be on a beach at the hottest point of the day, after they have a fight. it is so fucking pathetic.
camus is an edgy piece of shit who philosphised himself into a pit of disapair.
now: >Absurdism >Existentialism >Nihilism
they are all the enemy. if i am an existentialist than only in the sense that dostojevski was an existentialist.
a man with integrity can not fall into the pit of existential despair.
