It was on the books, challenged in court, law was overturned. This doesn't actually remove it from the state code or what have you, it's still in there. In a way, it's no longer even a law, it's just a non-law written in the same place. Other examples would be anti-gay marriage laws or , maybe handgun bans by states. Not many laws stay on the books after being repealed, it's just ones people would leave in there to make a point.
