In 2005 he won a TV contest for Most Admired Portuguese Of All Time. The butt hurt was enormous and praise-worthy. Personally, his model state is something I wouldn't mind living under (traditional values, church attendance, hierarchical society), although I disagree about the imperialistic foreign policy of the Estado Novo and think he should've definitely approached our economic policies a lot more toward the radical laissez-faire (while still maintaining a strict immigration policy based on merit and blood).
