Even so shootings rarely affect anyone living outside of inner cities so it's a far away problem for everyone else. For mass shootings I'd say it just makes a good headline and plays into the media's sensationalist tendencies and the average Facebook or twitter idiot with their walnut sized brain thinks crusading against the few dozen that die each year in mass shootings is important.

See the way cops chase cars in Europe and in the US, in Europe they try to keep the drivers alive if possible, in the US they try to get them out of the road as quickly as possible.
