Hi. I was born in Russia and lived there until I was 13, when I moved to Michigan, USA to live with my adoptive family. With that out of the way, there are a lot of fucked up people there, fucked up in various kinds of ways. Psychologically (like heartless psychopaths), emotionally (children of abusive parents, myself included), physically (disabled, have scars from fights, etc.), and even sexually (I went to a gopnik school where having sex at 11/12 was the norm and people would do drugs with their teachers during class).
However there are better parts of Russia where people have a semblance of humanity and aren't worn, beaten down gopniks living in barely-standing commieblocks. I envy those places. They're few and far between, but they do exist. Most top level Russian athletes live in nicer areas. Perhaps still not as nice as the equivalent in other countries but they have solid infrastructure, safe water, heating systems, clean cars, and the exterior probably doesn't look like ass.
Sadly I'd say half of Russians are cold and abused/abusive in some way, but it's because of their environment and the state of their country. However to say everyone is like that is a big exaggeration.
