>Professor predicts societal collapse in 2020s >We are living in society’s twilight years – if a professor of ecology and mathematics from the University of Connecticut is correct. Studying history as a science with variables and trends, he predicts the 2020s will see massive instability.
>For some, our political future is frightening. Others find it exciting. But Professor Peter Turchin from the University of Connecticut claims that it is time to prepare for political turmoil that could rock society to its core.
>Turchin is known for developing a cross-disciplinary subject known as “cliodynamics,” which treats history like any other science, with predictions and models. He has been writing about the subject for some time, but three years ago he began working on predicting the future. One of his predictions was: “We should expect many years of political turmoil, peaking in the 2020s.”
>Turchin says that “the negative trends seem to be accelerating,” and that in three years, the path to instability will seem unavoidable. He was quick to point out that Donald Trump’s presidential election neither accelerates nor decelerates the process, but was simply a predicted aspect of his theory.
>Turchin’s concepts include “elite overproduction,” in which the rich grow richer and relate less and less to the poor. He said that elite overproduction would result in “ideological polarization and fragmentation of the political class.” He used the 2016 election as a prime example, and explained that the Republican party has shattered into different factions consisting of Traditional Republicans, Tea Party Republicans, and Trump Populists.
At least you have diversity to fight off the apocalypse.

I'm excited. I hope it happens, we can start all over. Being a young man in such a time is infinite opportunity. Who here doesn't want to be part of some quasi-natsoc commune/tribe or feudal society in the semi-post-apocalypse and begin to forge our new nations? Humanity ought to be forced back into a semi-medieval society with elements of industrialism. What we have now is unsustainable, psychologically.

>Turchin’s concepts include “elite overproduction,” in which the rich grow richer and relate less and less to the poor.
The West is bankrupt--and look at all the wealth the "elite' have. The elite's wealth is the debt of the west.
Only one thing can really change this--a massive revaluation in the price of gold (to say $12,000 per ounce) to revert back to a solid system------or a hyperinflationary collapse like what is now in Venezuela.
A curious thing about a debt free society is that there is NO money--because modern money is a debt owed by government.

The only thing that's going to happen is European civil wars caused by the Muslim influx and the inability to forever pay for Islamic bennies. The EU does not have the money for it. Letting the migrants in was a deathblow, and now there's another 15 million African orcs wanting in. The Jews have destroyed Europe yet again.
Other than that, I can see Jews attempting to start a coup in the USA if/when Republicans start deporting the Democrats' illegally-voting base, because that would mean a Republican majority in perpetuity. They're not going to cede their control over the US political process without a fight, and Soros has already proven Jews will finance domestic terrorism.

This is what time traveller John Titor said happened when he came back from the future, and it's all coming true, just 10 years off:
>The most immediate of Titor's predictions was of an upcoming civil war in the United States having to do with "order and rights".[9] He described it as beginning in 2004,[10] with civil unrest surrounding the presidential election of that year. This civil conflict that he characterized as "having a Waco type event every month that steadily gets worse"[10] would be "pretty much at everyone's doorstep"[9] and erupt by 2008.
>As a result of the war, the United States would split into five regions based on various factors and differing military objectives. This civil war, according to Titor, would end in 2015 with a brief but intense World War III.
>Titor refers to the exchange as "N Day". Washington, D.C. and Jacksonville, Florida are specifically mentioned as being hit. After the war, Omaha, Nebraska would be the new U.S. capital. Titor was vague as to the exact motivations and causes for World War III. At one point, he characterized the hostilities as being led by "border clashes and overpopulation".[11] He also pointed to contemporary conflict between Arabs and Israel as not a cause, but rather a milestone that precedes a World War III.

Jesus, in sixties/early seventies in US we had riots, major riots at political conventions, Russians and US waving nuclear missiles around, hot wars in Vietnam and Angola, The Six Day War, political leaders getting shot up JFK/RFK/MLK/Wallace/endless attempts on Ford, Nixon resigns presidency... and guess what everyone lived, the planet is still here.
But kids now a days are all, "Whoa, Russians fucking with their vassal states, and people killing each other in the Middle East, who'd have thunk it?" and the kids think it's the End of the World.

Any change will always lead to destabilization, by definition. Think of it as disruption as known when a new product/service changes the consumer market, like how mp3 files disrupted the market for record companies.
This is political disruption, if you want change in your society - then something needs to change and this change will lead to a destabilization.
There are many issues I personally have with our current society. to mention a few, I have no ethnicity and are not part of a people, I have no country. I don't recognize an African as a dane or a person that is part my cultural/ethno group - the society does. For them any ethno group or foreign culture is part of their national identity. If you want to define something, then it means that you will have to exclude something. A car is a car because it is not a bike or a grape or a ... etc. Also the general humanism is getting out of hand, we are unable to function, because the sanctity of human-rights. For instance Denmark was part of an international coalition to help bring stability to Afghanistan - almost a hundred Danish soldiers died fighting the Taliban. Now several Taliban soldiers have arrived in Denmark and sought Asylum - which they got. the reasoning is that you cannot send Taliban soldiers back to Afghanistan because it is not safe for them.
I don't think this is right, so I welcome any political disruption. Hopefully the new political consensus will be one more aligned with my line of thoughts.

Hari Seldon is a scientist in the foundation novels by Isaak Asimov. He develops a science he called "psychohistory", which proposes that on a galactic scale, the future can be predicted as the individual choices will grow insignificant in the grand scheme of things. You should really read them, it's a very interesting concept.
Adrian Torres
Pretty much. The elite everywhere are segregating themselves from the plebes more and more. The plebes see that a small handful of people have it much better. What do they expect to happen? The police can only protect you for so long before being completely overrun.
Jack Bailey
>Hari Seldon is a fictional character in Isaac Asimov's Foundation series. In his capacity as mathematics professor at Streeling University on the planet Trantor, Seldon develops psychohistory, an algorithmic science that allows him to predict the future in probabilistic terms. On the basis of his psychohistory he is able to predict the eventual fall of the Galactic Empire and to develop a means to shorten the millennia of chaos to follow. The significance of his discoveries lies behind his nickname "Raven" Seldon.

Some have been predicting this for decades. Like literally since the 90's if not longer.
The 2spooky part is we'll never know what the crisis is before it hits.
One day we're going to wake up in the 2020s and it'll be WWIII, the Great American Race War, a reverse Crusade, or a total economic collapse with little warning as to when or where it'll happen.

I think this generation theory is a bit inaccurate in modern days. For instance why would the 90s be the collapse? thinks were okay in most western countries at that time. One possibility is that the age is more dynamic, young adult stay "childish" longer, midlife stay at their peak longer. This would make some sense considering how people lived a hundred years ago or more, then compare it to today. I recall a story I heard of George Washington, whom at the age of twenty commanded a british unit against the French. People at that time matured quicklier and died earlier.
Thomas Price
the little difference is that nowadays the world economy is fucked, while at that time it trucked.

No Doomsday doesn't look close yet.
More violence will have to happen first.
Things like BLM riots, Trump riots. If those things flair up then US society will become anarchic. Violence everywhere.
In Australia you will be separated from that though - unless your own tensions over immigration and race flair up, and cause similar violence.

Anyone who can pass a basic gym class fitness test (eg; run a mile in 8 minutes or so), owns a gun, and has basic knowledge of edible plants and gardening skills will probably be able to sustain themselves just fine for the most part. "Survival of the fittest" has never been meant to mean "life becomes a fitness competition" To survive in nature, an animal doesn't need to be the fastest in the herd, it just can't be the slowest.

>For instance why would the 90s be the collapse? thinks were okay in most western countries at that time.
They admit their theory isn't perfect and mostly reflects a generational cycle of the US and UK and maybe some other European countries with some level of uncertainty thrown in.
They even say at the end of their most recent edition that Boomers/68ers could fuck it up hard.
The 90s wasn't a collapse. This is how they define an Unraveling.
>The mood of this era they say is in many ways the opposite of a High: Institutions are weak and distrusted, while individualism is strong and flourishing....[u]nravelings come after Awakenings, when society wants to atomize and enjoy.
It's not that things get worse, just that society begins to pull away from the cohesiveness, due to the cultural Awakening, left over from the High.
Even the whole Crisis period itself isn't bad, just the Crisis is something that tests the strength of a society and its people.
Even if it's woo-woo soothsaying to an extent, it's interesting stuff. They also called the 2007 recession back in the 90s to, more or less, the year.
