The incidence of people getting addicted to drugs while in the hospital is quite low.
It happened in Vietnam, but that's because the people getting treated had some pretty unpleasant realities to escape.

I was given a 2 week supply of narcotics by my fucking dentist. I literally needed zero of them. I filled my script and stashed them away for a rainy day, but I could have profited several hundred dollars by selling them. Now since I'm not a degenerate I did not actually consider doing this, but many people do and it's flooding the streets with dangerous drugs.

I have a couple fucked up joints from my rambunctious days and I have no doubt if I pursued it they would put me year round never ending vicoden. Again, I'm not about to do something like that since I am not a degenerate druggo , but the medical establishment would happily hook me on narcotics, and my insurance company would happily pay for it. This is all without even lying.

If you are have non degenerate social skills and a respectable job/ health insurance and a minor ailment you can land a never ending narcotics prescription and insurance paid for Xanax, Valium, or Adderall to top it off. And as long as you don't show up in the ER begging for oxicotin the gravy train will run forever. Plenty of seemingly respectable people go down this road.

I took the prescription from the doctor simply not to make a scene, and flushed them down the toilet when I got home.
