That's the thing though, "the government" is not a fixed entity. In that alternate universe, once the generation of Hitler and Himmler is dead and gone, things will change. As peacetime drags on and more officials are replaced, the government will get more permissive.
You're right though, war doesn't necessarily improve things, that can only happen when enough of the population of a country is affected by it, and enough people buy into the propaganda, ie they think it's a good vs evil thing.

The reason the show is fucking boring is because obviously the writers are having a hard time making a utopian society look like a fucking distopian one, the writers are obviously having some idealogical crisis caused by writing this show and they're in a purgatory created by liberal society and the reality of this new world.
There is no doubt this society would not only be functional, but utopian, and the people would admire and reflect that.
Also, in the real world, if hitler was to win it wouldn't be because he stepped into fucking other universes and basically cheated to win the war, typical lefty bullshit.

Show is lefty and corny, the main characters would all be dead 100x if it was realistic. Athstetics are great, and they did good job of showing good side of bad people and bad side of good people. Young kids would be really confused on who they are supposed to like.

The original novel was a ridiculous science fiction story where "The Grasshopper Lies Heavy" is a book written using literal I Ching magic that reveals the inner truth of existence.
