Madrid (AFP) - Pope Francis on Saturday warned against populism, saying it could lead to the election of "saviours" like Hitler.
In an hour-long interview with Spanish newspaper El Pais conducted as Donald Trump was being sworn in as US president, the pontiff also condemned the idea of using walls and barbed wire to keep out foreigners.
"Of course crises provoke fears and worries," he said but added that for him "the example of populism in the European sense of the word is Germany in 1933.
"Germany... was looking for a leader, someone who would give her back her identity and there was a little man named Adolf Hitler who said 'I can do it'."

The Pope makes an excellent point and this sort of thing will assuredly repeat itself without proper precautions being taken. In a sense this is what just happened with Trump. People wanted someone to "fix" the state of the country, the rampant immigration and the loss of jobs and this and that. Even if Trump can't deliver, the people are hopeful. I can imagine similar feelings will be dwelling in multicultural epicenters in the near future, places like Germany and Sweden.

He's saying the books of the bible were put together by the pope in the 4th century. You're asking where does the bible give the pope authority, and I know where you're coming from. But in essence the bible was "written" at this time, by this person (technically the council of nicea (i think).
There were other "bible" parts before this time. Gospel of Mary Magdalene, Gospel of Judas, etc. Before this, each of the lost gospels were just as much of the "bible" as 'your' "bible".
What he's saying is the book you cling so clearly to was devised by a group of catholic men, under the direction of the pope.
That's why it contains the books that it does. They said to put those in. And that's why it doesn't contain other books, because they said to take them out.
