in CNN's 360 camera view you can very clearly see the crowds reaching as far as that sort of tent building in the foreground of this image. It's not unreasonable that nobody wanted to stand behind it. The image of the left was clearly taken in the early hours of the day, meaning that attendees had not yet been able to traverse disruptive protesters, closed off streets and barricades to get to the event. They did eventually show up in full force, as shown by CNN's 360 image.
