What's the fucking point in having a popular vote?

What's the fucking point in having a popular vote?

There is no point. Only Zuel.

There is no popular vote. It's just a number, it literally means nothing.

Just a device for the losing party to use & cry about even though they knew from the beginning that only the electoral votes matter.

Then why is it always counted if its meaningless

it determines what the state's proportion of electoral votes are.

There is a point where you get diminishing returns though.

There is a maximum of 50 electoral votes for the most populous state, and a minimum of 3 for the least populous states.

This ensures that every state has some say in the federal process, even if it takes 17 smaller states to cancel out the will of California.

Maybe next time, the DNC won't ignore 80% of the states when campaigning.

Fucking love zuel, that silly fuck

For statistics

They also count things like the party affiliations of voters, even that's also completely meaningless as far as who wins.

it's not counted
the votes in the states are counted to determine who gets the electors from those states
somebody figured out that you can add that shit up

Republic democracy. The popular vote is just one way to measure votes. It's largely irrelevant as people won't vote if they aren't in a swing state which reduces turnout.

The electoral college might be outdated a bit but it's important to realize a lot of the different states in USA makes shit differently and are like small countries. It might be true that USA is different now then when it was created but any attempt to reshape it now will be thrown into the fuckpit that is dems vs reps so better just run with what you have.

Delegates are chosen based on popular vote you retard.

The popular vote did matter. Hillary lost it in 30 separate instances on election day (not including the 2nd Maine Congressional District) compared to only winning it 21 times (20 states and DC).

She lost the popular vote in the only way that it mattered - in each state's electoral contest vote.

I guess it can be interesting for educational purposes? Also, an election like the 2016 one should be used as an example of why many countries have systems where not all votes are equal.

popular vote isn't officially kept at all

the media just adds up all the votes in every state

There isn't one. We are just an oligarchy masquerading as a democracy.

America has always been a Republic, it's never masqueraded as anything else.

There only end result of pure mob democracy in any society that isn't highly homogenized is a majority group voting away the rights of another group they don't like, the second group resisting the removal of their rights, and conflict ensuing.

If you like the idea of pure democracy you're either uninformed or you actively want to use democracy as a moral justification to steal other people's stuff.

only the losing party counts it up

retarded exercise

So it can help determine the electoral vote.

>The electoral college might be outdated

Wrong.

>it determines what the state's proportion of electoral votes are.
Wrong, that is what the census is for.

>There is a maximum of 50 electoral votes for the most populous state
Wrong, cali has 55.

I'd prefer a demarchy with term limits.

When the fuck was it Zuel.

It's Zuul.

If popular vote was all that mattered the election would be dictated by new york and cali every time.

its not counted. there is no federal department of counting the popular vote. the media just adds up the counts from the states/counties and reports it like it matters.

There is no "popular vote." Our federal elections are 50 state elections with the states deciding how their piece of the pie is counted.

Because the US is a federation.

Well technically each state has a popular vote.

It is a mistake to lump all of those together into one massive vote tally.

To prevent shitholes with 2 million+ retards from having absolute control over the country.

So, like, you know when you play "streeb bighter :DD", and you beat some guy in arcade mode, there's a score at the end of the fight. Doesn't really mean anything, the other person could get a higher score and still get KO'd, but it's there anyway. Mainly because it looks nice ("wow, look at that big number"), but also because you could make it into the leaderboard.
