You would absolutely be born a peasant. City life was fucked. Disease. Shit and piss, human and animal, was everywhere. Rats. Cramped living quarters. Zero privacy. Shitty hygiene. Random fires. Seriously, i see this shit coming out only from poles. I never saw a frenchman claiming that Tchaikovsky is a french composer because he had french great grandfather or georgians claiming that Borodin is a georgian composer because of his dad which he never saw.
Is Poland really was historically so poor on talented people that you need literally made up things like Tchaikovsky being a pole or bringing up granddad of Shostakovich? Might as well say that Glinka is a pole since his ancestors moved to Russia 200 years before he was born.

I was around 13-14 at the time and I was aware of all those things you listed, but I couldn't really feel them. Like I couldn't truly hold the idea of living among excrements and rats. They were simply... away, but still in that whole image that I was envisioning.
