Poor, impoverished blacks went from making some of the most unique music ever to some of the worst crap I've ever heard. Any man can appreciate the blues. It's beautiful music that's soothing and sounds like the work of God.
The same thing happened with country music. It used to be about outlaws, stories of hardship in the country, and the badassery of the men that made the music. Now it's just pussies that don cowboy hats to talk about trucks and appeal to young millennial women who think they are country.
But inner city blacks make the most garbage music possible. On top of the fact that it literally just sounds like chimping out, the content of the music is violent, promotes drug use and promiscuity, and is literally encouraging young white kids and black kids to follow the same lifestyle.
It's all subjective but I can't fathom why people enjoy rap. Especially if you're white and have never lived in section 8 housing.

Funk, soul, doo wop, r&b were all "white-friendly" forms of music as they were very similar to popular white music in terms of song structure and lyrics. This music didn't speak to the gritty reality of the ghettos like hip hop did though.
Hip hop had the combination of simplistic lyrics that weren't "whitewashed" and sounded like shit you would hear being spouted in the ghetto, sampling making it easier to create an instrumental if you couldn't afford instruments, and these guys being more "relatable" to young black kids than someone like Michael Jackson or Marvin Gaye. The gangsta rap era is what led to the decline.

Rap had some brief moments of greatness in the 70s-90s then the party/gangsta rap totally took over the mainstream and the lyrical standard just declined over the years into what it is today.
Look up Lil Yachty, Young Thug, 21 Savage, Chief Keef, etc. for what hip hop has de-evolved into.
