Russian military to build over 100 facilities in Arctic region Russia’s Defense Ministry plans to build over 100 infrastructure facilities in the Arctic region by the end of 2017, TASS reports. “Over 100 facilities in the Russian part of the Arctic will be put into operation by the end of 2017,” the ministry’s press service said on Wednesday. The facilities are located on the territory of the Russian Arctic military bases on the Franz Josef Land Archipelago, the Novaya Zemlya Archipelago, Sredny Island, Cape Schmidt, Wrangel Island and Kotelny Island, according to the statement. Over 30 facilities are planned to be built on the Alexandra Land Island (the Franz Josef Land Archipelago), including the Nagurskoye Airfield. The Arktichesky Trilistnik (Arctic Trefoil) administrative and residential compound, a unique facility built at a latitude of 80 degrees, is currently under construction in this area, the ministry said.

Seeing how many they use, they must have millions... How foolish can they be to supply them with such top-grade weaponry in such a huge quantity. Especially weaponry that they can't even counter themselves.

Can someone explain to me how the Houthis are winning? Theyre literally under siege and under attack by a shitload of nations backed by the USA, and somehow are still scoring victories two years into a total war. How do they do it?
>Orlan 10s were supposedly used in ukraine I mean we were lacking them in the late soviet - early post soviet time lad. We didnt even had a drone branch, had to make everything from a scratch.

I don't really know. Maybe it's just Trump being Trump. He said something about safezones during the primaries to keep the refugees out, it seemed like a great idea to him. Now he wants the DoD to develop a plan with safe zones. I bet those guys are just as confused as you and me.

Saudis are sending uninspired, shit-tier mercenaries that are not ready to die.
>The rivalries being played out so violently across the region reflect the imprint of modern ideological imperatives, albeit interwoven with traditional themes: the revolutionary politics of 20th century totalitarianism woven into, or rather, dressed up as, fundamental religious positions. This distinction is useful not only in order to better understand the emerging landscape but also to design coherent strategies to beat back and ultimately defeat the totalitarian challenge.
>Thus, it is possible to discern in the "Middle East" as broadly defined – North Africa, the Levant, the Red Sea basin, and the Gulf – not two confessional camps, but four ideological camps.
>[One might add a fifth, secular nationalist socialist camps, which once dominated Arab politics; and a sixth camp: the hopeful young liberals who played such a prominent role in launching the political upheaval in the first place. But these are the forces of the past and (perhaps) of the future, respectively. They are not in real contention for power at present.]
>Of the forces who are in contention, three camps or groups belong to the general category of Islamist totalitarians: Iran with her proxies and allies; the Salafi Jihadists, currently dominated by the so-called “Islamic State” (IS); and the Muslim Brotherhood (MB) movement in its various manifestations, including Hamas, supported by Qatar and by Erdogan's Turkey. (Prime Minister Netanyahu has called these groups “branches of the same poisonous tree”).
>The fourth camp, loosely defined, brings together all those who fear and resist the rise of the first three camps. We can call these actors the forces of stability, with Israel as an active and important player in this camp.
Caleb Perez
this screams fake. Contrary to the common believe, the Saudis don't arm salafists, they push for the "moderate" opposition (and for the secular one when it still existed). They hate political islam because it's a rival to their kingdom. They especially hate the Msulim Brotherhood. Most of the funds are coming from rich private donors, esepcially in Qatar and the Emirates, not from a state. Also, why is everything in English?
Lincoln Perry

they do if there is no alternative. In Syria, they were the last ones to fund islamists, way after the turks and all the other "friends of Syria" on the gulf.

In October, the Russian aircraft carrier was "marked every inch of the way" as it sailed off the coast of Dover, en route to take part in operations against Syrian rebels.
Defence Secretary Sir Michael Fallon said the warship, which is also being monitored by RAF Typhoon aircraft, was a "ship of shame whose mission has only extended the suffering of the Syrian people".
